So I might be looking into buying a coupe quattro project. Its a 1990 and so far I know it needs a front bumper, rear and drivers side window glass. Its a 5cyl turbo 5 speed. I might go look at it soon, does anyone have any input? I'm not very familiar with these older audis, how hard are they to work on/ how hard is it to find parts? I really like these old babys, what do you think?
its a 5cylinder turbo? They did not come that way in the USA from the factory. Post some pics i'd be happy to give you advice/ideas
The broken front bumper, I would try to find a local junkyard and find a interm replacement if it could be had for cheap. if you can't find something locally/or even if you do I would keep an eye out for a European style bumper, they do wonders for the front end of these cars, they take what looks very dated and make it look much more modern.
parts can be tricky to find, however most of the engine parts/drive train parts crossover to other vehicles so that is easy, however there are many specific parts to it, doors, fenders, windshields, window regulators, ect. I import lots of parts from europe as i find it easier to get what i need from europe then finding it here in teh states.
Thanks for the help, anyone have an idea what I might expect to pay for the rear widow/drivers side window?
Rear driverside window? The small triangle one? Shouldn't be to expensive, just need to find someone parting a car. I could get one from europe if you aren't in a hurry
Turns out Ruffiano was right, its a non turbo. The owner advertised it as the 20V 5cyl, which is the turbo. It must be the 10V one. Its kind of a deal breaker for me I think. Anyone have one of these with some input?
First off how much are you paying and what other problems are there?
It is a 20valve dohc naturally aspirated engine, 164hp. It is faster then a b5a4, it isn't fast but isn't completely gutless either. I have owned 4 of them, most of them always kept their stock engine. They are a fun car to own and obviously addicting.

I was looking for a CQ, and I had a deposit on one w/ a 5cyl Turbo swap, too; but it wasn't exactly what I hoped. So I'm waiting for a local, or just an old Ur-Q. :)

Just to reiterate what Ruffiano said, the seller isn't lying to you. The CQs got the NA version of the 5cyl 20v engine. Although a good number of them have 20vt swaps by now.
Over, this car is perfect for someone who would like a rare cousin of the Corrado with AWD. The inline 5 cylinder runs great and will continue to for a very long time with only 120k miles. It can be used as a daily driver while you work on turning it into an S2 or keep it as is.
My advise: find a nice one and drive it before buying a non running car. I love the way these cars look and was hot to get one a couple of years ago. then I drove a very nice but stock car. I was very disappointed in the performance of the car. All show and no go killed it for me. I wasn't expecting it to be a hot rod, but it was sluggish. I took the car to the local Audi tuner, and he confirmed there was nothing wrong with this particular car. the US market cars were well known to be under powered and heavy.

Actually, weighs less than the later A4s. More HP than Stock B5 A4.
As these cars age, they lose a little zip. Usually, from not staying up on the proper maintenance. The injectors in these cars, go bad after about 12 or so years. They drip and the spray pattern goes to hell. They were not that good to begin with. You can upgrade the injectors with a kit from 034.
Some other upgrades are:
P&P the heads.
Some cams.
Bored out throttle body.
034 big MAF and tunable chip.
Early header.
Now this is not going to give you a lot of horsepower, that a turbo will give you, but it will give you a lot less trouble.
I have a friend of mine running what I listed above, and his car dynoed with over 165 WHP. That is more than the stock crank HP.
Or you could buy a later Audi, and have a car that looks like everyone else.

The can have my car when they pry my cold dead fingers from the steering wheel
Wow - that's a beauty. Fully agree that an older CQ is really unique - there are sooooo many B5's out there. I personally think the B5 body styling is bland; the B6 added some nice lines.

Couldn't have said it better Greg.
When my coupe was still 100% stock but in good running condition i raced my buddy in his b5 a4 with the v6 engine which in theory should have more hp from the factory then my cq, he couldn't keep up. yes gearing changes but he wasnt even able to keep pace.
I love Audis, and i love mine even more because of its uniqueness, my car is very recognizable and doesn't look like anything else on the road. It now has much more power then it did stock and i would agree that the stock car isn't a powerhouse but when you compare it to other cars at the time it certainly stands apart.
I might have a lead on one that MIGHT go up for sale. One I used to own (well still sort of do now).... I LOVE the CQ
my ride: 2001 A4qtm... 2871r, 440cc, 3 bar, turbo xs dv, custom 3" exhaust, test pipe, Cm fx400 billet LWFW...
90 CQ.. 2bennett... work in progress
2004 AR... bone stock
Timing belts, clutches, and all done in the North Bay. Pm me.
Yeah CQ is a very comfortable ride and i guess everybody should come up with possible details about it so that the concerned people could get a quick look before taking decision to buy
higher, 128k miles comes with OEM euro bumpers (right now it has an OEM Brand New RS2 bumper, but might just come with an oem S2 bumper), carbon fiber b4 hood, 17x8 wheels, lots of misc euro niceness. selling price would probably be right around 7k, oh and it is a rust free west coast car, up in the seattle area.
