So for people that installed the 034 for OCC or any OCC for that matter, did you remove that check valve that is inside the tube going from the valve cover to the compressor housing on the turbo? There was a thread about knocking noise from the intake after the 034 OCC was installed.

I did not remove the check valve nor have I experienced any 'knocking noise" from the intake yet

Update: I installed my 034 Motorsport kit on sunday afternoon and this afternoon, I began to hear the "knocking" noise coming from the intake area.
What is that noise from technically? Is it bad to drive like that? I'm going to try and remove the valve ASAP. Probably tomorrow. Does anyone have any idea how to remove those clamps? That secure that hard line/hose to the the valve cover?

Yeah, those are just the OEM single use clamps. You'll need to get new hose clamps to replace those. If you look closely at the clamp, you will be able to pinpoint a tab where the clamp overlaps itself (think 80's snap bracelet). Easiest way is to pry this up slightly with a knife, then pull it away and up with needle nose.
What is that part, what does it do, and how does a catch can make it click?
I just bumped the thread "strange knock from intake". Hopefully we will find out more. It seems like the valve making that sound is inside that tube and can be pulled out? It is pointless supposedly, once a catch can is installed.
So how likely is it to have stuff freeze up in the can? I live in Chicago, and drive to the UP of Michigan often. If it's a big concern, I might just buy a new PCV valve and replace it every 50k with my cam follower?

Not a big deal at all, as long as it's <1/2 full. You just don't want it full, freezing up in the lines, or expanding the can. It would take some serious neglect to get that bad. Just do it.

ha ha not yet. You guys on this damn forum somehow get me to spend money like crazy. I need to build my bank account back up first. Then this, plugs, timing belt, and cam follower will be going on. Maybe I will just get a race style and route it to my joints so they stay greesed:-) I did that on my truck and my ujoints love it!
Love the write up once again, but the 034 Catch Can Does NOT have to be drained. You tap the oil drain plug with the supplied fitting and your good to go!
Disadvantage. You have to drain the oil to install it...
But if you choose, it can be either way. Personally I have had it for a while and nothing has collected in it. Just some discoloration. I wanted to see what it caught before I let it drain. Just to see, not because I don't think it's safe. Plus I didn't want to change my oil yet.
In the second image on the first page, the opening known as the 'exaust turbocharged gas outlet' does what exactly? On my engine it is blocked off at the engine.

Actually after I got reading a bit more, I am just going to put a 1/4" valve on the bottom instead to drain anything that might end up in there. Plus I just don't want to drain the oil just to install the spacer for the drain line... haha.
How long have you had it installed for? I opened my hood today too see oil coming out from my cap and then tested the PCV to realize it was busted. Didn't see the point of putting a $170 part on it when I could be done with it for $300.
I've had mine on for about three weeks. All I did was put about a 4" length of vacuum hose on the drain nipple and blocked it with a screw for now. I probably will attach the oil drain eventually, but was just interested to see how much collects in it and what it looks like.
Well I went with the BSH revamp instead.. Short on cash at the moment and need to get this fixed asap. I will prob drill and tap the plate and add a catch can in later. Next oil change which is coming up is getting a seafoam in the crank case to clean anything out anyways. With 40,000 miles I am sure I don't have much build up...
can anyone answer my question about the 'exaust turbocharged gas outlet'? Mine is blocked off in a way that is unusual it seems, and Id like to know if I should re-route things.
Now that the 034 CC has seen some winter temps, has anyone had any hoses freeze to a point of blocking off completely yet?
I never hooked up the drain line, but I have had no issues with the big hoses. My Guess is, even if it does freeze, it is probably surrounded by enough heat when driving that it well melt again.

Thanks, its on my list but just want to make sure it wont be to much hassle in the colder climate I live in over here..

little update to this for those with AWE intercoolers and the 034 catch can. I plugged the 034 catch can for awhile before i got around to modifying the bracket. Bought an aluminum plate from the local ACE that's unfortunately going out of business for half off and had some bolts and nuts laying around. I cut the aluminum stock to fit snug where the 034 bracket is supposed to sit on the can and left an extra couple of inches to the side so that i could bolt part of the original bracket onto there and angle it. It came out looking decent and i hope people get the picture. I'll most likely make an entirely new bracket since i didn't feel like fidgeting anymore on my car for the day but it works and i'm able to get the drain hooked up to the pan with no problem.

So you are saying that the piping for the AWE intercooler was in the way, not allowing the can to fit with it's intended hardware? Good info. Thanks.

Basically, yup. I read other people having the same problem and they never posted how they got around it, so i obliged to hopefully make someone else's day easier. The can would sit right smack dab on top of the intake piping not allowing for any sort of drain to be attached.

Just plasti dip your bracket and it will look just fine.
Got my 034 oil catch can installed and did enough trimming to get the cover back on
The back "pin" on the cover does not go in, but that would take even more trimming which I didn't want to do... the way it is right now, the cover is secure and will not come off. It's definitely NOT what I would call "Minor" trimming
034 CC Pro Tip:
Just figured out how to run the 034 CC and keep the engine cover with no trimming
Put a zip tie on each hose at about this location. leave a little slack so you have some wiggle room
Located the N80 valve and the support for it. Put a ziptie around the bottom of the support and through the zipties that are already on the hoses
(by my finger)
pull the ziptie around the N80 support tight so that it pulls the hoses downwards
the hose closest to the front of the car will be squished a little but there is still room for flow
install the engine cover and check fitment. tighten zipties as necessary
look ma, no trimming!

Technically it should never freeze than right?
Here it's cold, sometimes -30degrees Celsius + for a week straight
Heyuh, just wanted to share my findings with the 42DD catch can.
Decided to clean the sucker out after several drainings.
Here is the top removed, as you can see there are two baffles seperates by a 1/4" or so, what you can not see is the third baffle and screen below those.
Here is the can itself, your looking at the INLET
And here is the some of the junk that was in it
No fuel, just oil and water
I found it odd that the 034 vortex can inlet port is on the top.. I wonder what happens when the level of the can fills past that long tube, it must bible or gurgle? Idk
I'm strictly basing this off of the photos I see above.
Installed BSH CC on B7 Avant, installation was followed. After around 4000 miles, trying to drain oil for the 1st time, not even a single drip of oil. But checked the oil stick, missing half quart of oil. What happened? Burn it somewhere? 70/30 Hwy/City driving, 24 MPG quite low... :-(
Yes this should help with carbon buildup, combine catch can and meth and I don't see carbon buildup ever being a problem.
I can vouch for the 42DD, has internal baffles, great looking can available in numerous finishes. Competitive price. Only drawback was having to retrofit it for the B7A4 bay because it's made for the mkiv Gti
