ive searched the thread for a while and i couldnt find an answer. only a quick response is all i need anyways.

i have a 2001 1.8t sport with a bad transmission (tiptronic), car doesnt move. has had it sitting for nearly two years. lol

stumbled upon a 2.8 tiptronic, unsure of year. guessing its 2000-2001 cause of facelift.

question is..would it be a simple swap to put the 2.8 transmission in the 1.8t??

1.8t is in nearly perfect condition except small cosmetics. incase your wondering why i dont keep 2.8 lol.

    thanks in advance.

Before swapping it, did you scan the car for codes?
If it's just the valve body, you can use the valve body of the 2.8 and put it in the 1.8 without removing the trans from there. This way you will keep the same gear ratio, as the 2.8 are too long for the 1.8 (engine out of breath on the highway).

If you choose to swap, then you will also have to swap the differential. Also possibly the CV shafts.
