I believe all data calls for 11hours. Hourly rate at my local shop is $67 an hour so $737. We did my clutch in 4 hours. Just call around, im sure you can find a better deal.

I have had offers ranging from 600 dollars from a local tuning place, to 1100 from the dealership.

I would say about $800.00 is probably average from a private shop.

Find someone that does side work.

I charge $50/hr labor for this kind of stuff. So $550 would be a fair price for someone doing side work.

My favorite is when you use a wrench, put it down to pull bolt off, then reach for wrench to get next one and it's gone. Spend next 15-20 mins looking for said wrench only to find it resting on the jack in plain sight. Lol good times

BAAAHAA! That has happened to me too!

If it costs that much to change out a clutch, Im doing it myself then. Really not feeling it but since I can save 500+ bucks. Minus well. Vast clutch eh? Resurface original flywheel or new/aftermarket?

Resurface, though if I was not quattro I would have gone LWFW :-/
Just look at my pic and if you would feel comfortable with the car a few inches from your face, sweating and bleeding with a neck ache and tired arms then ^yea do it. Because that is worst case scenario, I wouldn't have it any other way though lol
Crappy jack blew it's seal :-/ had to position the bottle jack at the center mass of the heavy awd trans to slide in the input shaft

Much heavier than my 97 sonoma trans was lol

the shop I brought my car to just finished replacing the power stearing pump, serp belt, cam follower, battery and drain clog for 1600. Does that sound normal? My former friend who screwed up the car must have torqued the wheel so much, it pulled the axel on the power stearing pully a 1/2" out of its housing.

Now the car is starting, but needs the clutch. Im getting the vast stage 3 and steel LWFL. The shop the car is at wants like 900 to do that, and im really getting tight on cash. Ive never worked underneath a car before, but im pretty mechanically savy and id like to do it myself. Can anyone tell me what tools I will need? Like anything other than wrenches and ratchets?

To remove the slave. A bunch of Allen wrenches and patience. Look on a4mods.com and see the clutch removal DIY. If you still feel comfortable than go for it

Very true, just remember the guys that work at the dealer are usually the same
Guys that work at the independent places. We had technicians in and out all the time and the only ones who were worth a damn, were the ones who'd been to school for that particular make. Shop around and find a repetible indie shop :-)
