The average Audi will endure $20,000 in repairs in the first 100K miles, start now with the $300 ross-tech cable!!!!
Whered you come up with that number?
I had over 95k on my old 06 a4 and definitely didn't have anything close to that in repairs.
My bro has 02 with over 120k and same thing

The Cable comes with a license for the software. It has a chip built in that authenticates with the VCDS software and allows it to run. A cheap ebay cable wont work with the full version of VCDS.

seems like they dont sell the cable individually...do I really need a kit?
ross-tech developed the VAG-COM software...you can only buy the cable with registered version of VAG-COM. It is more expensive than those cheap eBay cables but this is authentic and works flawlessly. You also get support from ross-tech.
This is probably one of the most beneficial purchases you will make for your Audi/VW...paying a couple hundred bucks more is well worth it. I've upgraded my cable 3 times now since I've owned my first one almost 10 years ago.
i paid 20 bucks for the one on ebay, and it works just fine. If anything the only thing the gives me problems is the actual software with it's port issues.
awesome info, thx guys~
dont think ebay's cable is working tho, none of them support the b7 model.
They will support the K line communication (module 17, 56, 77,etc..), not the Can bus.
and if you dont have a registered vagcom, you cant do adaptation pass channel 09.

i see, what is the benefit to get the rosstech cable,
beside changing the setting of my car, what else does it do?
at this point, i just want to turn the ugly signal lights off.

I have a cheap $8 cable from ebay and I turned my lights to euro (no ambers but blinkers, and brights with fogs), turned off the no seatbelt ding, made unlock on my keys do all doors, and made my keys able to control the windows.
You just have to do a lot of searching around and figuring it out. I didnt write down what I did and forgot, but I even got it to work on my buddy's 04 Jetta TDI
Just in case i have to bring my car in for some warranty work.
Do you guys know where i can check in vag-com to see if my engine is chipped at all and by who?
Can you disable TPMS warnings with this? My summer rims dont have it and it's very annoying.
Yes you can. Should be a bit you can flip off in the Central Convenience settings or something like that.

Definitely not. Having said that you can cause irreparable damage to your electronics if you don't know what you are doing and just blindly start clicking thing.
You guys should read Ross-Tech's website and the Vag-Com Wiki they have on there. It answers a LOT of these questions...

How do you know you can't vagcom out the bulb out module Charles? I am in active talks with Ross-Tech support over this and they are not sure...They are waiting for me to send them an auto scan to see if and how I could disable it (which would be a major breakthrough for the platform if we could I think ).

Well, as it currently stands, you can't. And I'm guessing since anyone asking the question in the Vag-Com walkthrough thread doesn't know how to perform any advanced coding in VCDS I don't think they'll be able to figure out how.
However if you and Ross-Tech can figure out a coding to turn off the bulb out error thats pretty sweet. As long as it means that LEGITIMATE bulb out errors aren't coded out too. Don't need to be driving around with brake lights out because you turned the warning off...

a) I am guessing that is impossible, and if it turns out to be possible to disable the module at all (I am guessing it is, since it is possible the VWs), it will disable ALL bulb our errors as it can't distingush the differences
b) I am fine with spot checking my lights once a month if it means I can run my custom taillights, headlights, LED interior, and licence plate lights without 5-6 beeps every time I turn on my car

Its annoying the amount of customization you can do on VWs. I was messing around with my buddys new Jetta GLI and the long coding stuff makes customization so flexible. There are almost too many options...

thx~ I just tried it and it did support the K line communication.
my ugly signal lights are off now...haa haa~
beside adaptation, what else does an authentic cable do?
Nice short answer!
ok, is there anything out there that can tell me what or if i have an upgrade?
Only reason i ask is that this is a new to me vehicle and just using seat of the pants it feels faster than the others i've tested.
Finally put this thread to use and I am pretty happy with the results I did:
1) disabled selt belt chime (also removed the selt belt indicator on the dash for me which I thought doesn't happen?)
2) 1 touch lock/unlock + remote windows
3) euro headlights (set to no DRL + rest of the world instead of DRL + Canada with halogens)
Pretty sure my lighting setup is now illegal because you have to run DRLs by law in Canada, and while just my fogs used to turn on when I started the car, nothing does now:
1) switch @ 0 = no lights on and no interior lighting
2) switch @ 1 to the right = city lights + interior lighting (wish I could disable interior lighting at this stage but ok....)
3) switch @ 2 to the right = the bigger bulbs + city lights + interior lighting
4) switch @ 2 to the right + pulled out once = above + fog lights
If a cop ever sees me, I'll just have to quickly switch on my city lights manually. I like this setup because running lights during the day is stupid so I save power, and all the while that annoying orange blinker is off except when using turn signals

I wouldn't worry about it. I've been running with disabled DRLs for over 10 years on cars I have owned and never ever got pulled over or hassled by cops about it. They don't care and besides, there are many cars with disabled DRLs all over the place (in the GTA at least).
so i just bought this: http://kufatec.com/index.php?main_pa...oducts_id=1443 and plugged it into my rns-e. went into the navigation module, i beleive its module 36, to enable the AUX. the coding is xxxxx57 but when i click "DO IT" the aux option doesnt appear in the "source" tab of the navi. can anybody help??
I just did mine last night and found out that I had to set it to xxxxx77 (AUX + SAT). After words I rebooted the RNSe by holding FM/AM and Setup at the same time for 15+ seconds. Worked fine after that.

So I guess after reading this thread I can forget about with my VAG-com removing the bulb error I will get if I install the LED side turn signals and fog lights I have laying beside me here? As late as 3 hours ago a mechanic in the Audi shop told me I probably could do that. I guess he was wrong. Bosnian I really hope you figure out how to do that and post it here!

Something I am always working on....For the fog lights, if you are using HIDs, you could just buy cancellors...Remove the error code from custom fog lights is easy as you can use pre-packaged error cancellors as I mentioned, or you even have the space in the lower part of the front bumper to custom wire in some resistors...

Well I was kind of hoping to avoid the resistors and only use the LED bulb to save power. I use the leaving home function or what ever it's called, and it would be nice to only have the battery consumption of the LED's and not the 2x50W resistors. The cancellors you are refering to, do they use power? Where can I get these and where are these installed?

You can get them on ebay and I would assume they don't use any additional power (or draw any when the cars off). They are installed between the fog lights (if you are getting HID fogs) and the stock connector.

But if what you say is true then I prefer the cancellors as it sounds like the better choice. Now that you've seen my fog lights, would you mind helping me out with finding a cancellor on ebay that would fit?
