I take care of my car very well. The only spot Im having issues with is the thin black plastic on left and right side of the front windshield. It has these white spots that look like water marks. I tried to get them out while I washed the car today thinking they came from the rain but even after drying I still see the white spots on both sides.. How can I get this out? and what caused this?
I have them too dude, on those rubbery rain gutters - been meaning to ask Phil for a bit now. I've been using Adams S-VRT on them but still get the water spots regardless of how fresh the SVRT is, so thought I'd try something new. Used an APC to really clean them, an gave 'em a spray with Adams In&Out, and they look great.
Only problem is, it hasn't rained here in a while LOL, so I haven't been able to test the In&Out!
I had this. I was at an auto wash and the jockey sprayed wheel cleaner on the whole car. I screamed at him but it was too late. Went through the wash and then noticed that there was some discolouring on the trim bits either side of the windshield. I went to crappy tire and picked up some Mother's Back to Black and tried that. It worked for about a week to a week and a half then noticed the discolouring again. You may wan to try this.....may work on the white spots. Good luck!
I used blue painters tape to mask these trim strips off once during a detail, but when I removed the tape, it basically took the top layer of coating off with it. Now the rubber trim is permanently textured like masking tape! Back to Black helps to smooth out the appearance, but I haven't been able to find anything that will take the textured look away for good. Any suggestions are appreciated!
I might buy some and have them professionally painted matte black then lol I dont think they are rubber though they seem to be hard plastic. We are talking about the windshield borders left and right
sorry about that guys I have replaced mine a total of 2 times already, my audi store will replace them under warranty.
i bought my rubber trim for $34, they will stain, my 2nd set are already stained, I'm going to get a 3rd set soon.
nothing really works for very long they scratch/scuff easily as well.
Wait - Phil, you've had the rain gutters replaced? Wow - so no product then can "seal" them? Adams S-VRT doesn't work well on them at all even though it's brilliant on the plastic gutter at the bottom of the windshield and the tires (still waiting for rain to test the In&Out....)\
Ballz - do your rain spots come off easily when washing? For me they do, and just after a wash I'll rub them dry and they're perfect... until the next rain that is

sorry the plastic piece. they dull out and they do scratch up as well as they are prone to water spots
I've been having the same problem with nasty waterspots and stains on mine but i found our solution guys:
I am actually out in my garage finishing a wash right now and found that spraying the trim pieces in question down with Adam's All Purpose Cleaner does the trick. Mine are back to their previous black now, no stains. Hope this helped!

I used Adams APC to clean the Adams SuperVRT off, and yes they did go back to black. Then I sprayed the In&Out... waiting for rain to see the results :-) If the spots return, I'm gonna APC them again and not put any product on and see what that does.

I might try some Zaino Z-CS on it today and see what happens. Can't hurt.
I think we're going to be stuck with waterspots from rain, though, no matter what. At least Adam's APC does a good job removing them, though.

I'm happy to report that Zaino Z-CS seems to have done the trick! After cleaning with Adam's APC last week during my weekly wash, I applied Z-CS fairly liberally with a microfiber applicator pad and removed the excess from the a-pillar and window. Had it washed on Sat before my full hood, a-pillar, front of roof, and behind the rear wheels clearbra installation, had it outside while it was raining yesterday, and washed again this evening prior to sealing the new clear film with PF1 Crystalline, and I've had absolutely no spots through any of that.

here you guys go, with this problem that is happening to our cars I felt I should try and figure out a way to get the most permanent fix.
I used an IP wipe down to clean up the trim and followed it with Wolf's Nano Dressing which worked great, it gave a matte finish and its been about 5 days with no signs of hard water spots. I'll have to post back an update over the next few weeks to see how it goes but for now it got rid of the spots and looks to be a great solution.
Here are some before and after pics

Cleaned up trim and finished with Wolf's Nano Dressing
I find the Adams In&Out holds black for a while (much longer than SVRT), but the spots do eventually return after a coupla weeks which is probably normal, whereas the In&Out holds out forever on the plastic at the base of the windshield. Curious about how well the Wolf's is performing in comparison on the rubber-type gutter.
On another note: Holy Crap! I tried the Prima Hydro Spray Wax today - that stuff is awesome! Pleeeeeeaaaaase tell me you can buy it by the gallon! I threw the 3+1 pack on my Wolf's order yesterday, and am sure glad I did.
I swear I'm collecting less dust on the rear part of the car too.
Good to know as my trim around the windshield is starting to have this same effect.

holding up well washed the car a few times and its been raining here.
take a look
Well, I think "holding up well" might be an understatement. This Wolf's Nano Dressing is UNREAL! Not only does it work in that there's no longer any spotting after the rain, but the spots and fading that were there and near impossible to remove even with washing disappeared as soon as the dressing was applied, and my gutters are now totally black again. 2 or 3 drops on a MF cloth were all it took to do each side - worth its weight in gold!
Adams S - VRT does not work, even if it's glory in all the plastic in the bottom of the windshield and the tires are still waiting for the rain to test out the gutter with them.
No, SVRT works on everything BUT the rain gutters. I've tried SVRT, In&Out, Back to Black, and a few other trim products my friends had... Wolf's is the only one that's actually worth it's salt.
Let me add to my last statement about the Wolf's in post #34: Just got back from Quattrofest at PIR, the car was on the track for two days, the first day it rained, the second day was sunny. Two days of excessive brake dust in the air, plus rain, sun, exhaust, dirt, grime, rubber chunks and goose poop. The gutters are the only thing that still look good on the car :-)
