    Durability of Plastidip?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, I am asking this in this section because only we know the extreme weather conditions our Audi's experience here in Canukistan. I always thought this was a U.S only product when people mentioned it on this forum but I went looking for it and realized that Home Hardware caries it so I am interested in painting a few things with it:

    1)front grille outline
    2)mirrors
    3)rear valence
    4)possibly the rims

I'm not sure what colors I want to go with yet but I don't wanna do anything with the car that isn't perminant either....How does plasti dip hold up on -30c to +30c weather? I know its removable (ie: dripping gas/oil on it will remove it) but is this something you guys resuse every summer or? Has anyone tried clearcoating it or will that also remove the plastidip? Looking at the DIY guide its a fairly easy process, but I'll put in the extra effort to paint them properly if it is worth it...

Wow...thats crazy durable then. Did you sand them first or just soapy wash? I'm guessing you didn't apply anything before or after the plasti dip either then?

@Watson, one off March Road (Trudel) apparently stocks it.

    Items for Sale

I've used the product on my other cars; for just minor cosmetic stuff... : )
I live in Vancouver, so the weather is a lot more forgiving than where you are at.. hehe
but, i would say the prodcuts holds up pretty nice, and it should too for you.

I have never tried clear coating, but i dont think you should, the prodcut is to give matte finished look. (i think..)

To take them off, you simply have to peel them off!~ EASY :)
but i didnt know you could drip gas/oil to remove it! THANKS for the tip haha

in my opinion you should give it a try, it is totally worth it !!!
gives a whole new different look on the car for only couple $$

oh, just a friendly tip here,
you should do 2~3 coats depending on where you are putting the products,
and i found it much easier to use hair dryer when drying the product.
the hair dryer makes the drying part quick, easy and i think it helps to dry evenly as well.

    Enjoy! : )

Hmm ok, I will give it a shot. The real test will be the rear valence because that will have to withstand the mechanical heat from the exhaust. My car is dolphin grey on black and I plan on doing my mirrors, rims, rear valience, and grille outline in black. I will most likely do 3 coats to be safe and I'll post back the results .

Yes on everything but the rims. They won't take the heat and constant road abuse. Just paint your rims properly but everything else is fine for PD. I've had my grill and front rings PD'd for over 2 years now without a scratch.

Yep, ordered 2 11oz black spray cans from Trudel Home Hardware in Kanata. They didn't stock them but ordered 2 in (at no additional charge) and it took about a week to get them in.

    You can see it here.

I have had plasti dip on my grill for 4 months.. Not a single scratch, chip or anything. The rims were kinda a pain to remove the stuff..

Link to my experience with it on rims.. Didn't have it on very long but having it on the grill makes me confident that it would hold up. - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...S!!?highlight=
