so, my 6yr old brother was messing around with golfballs today and long story short he broke my windshield. How much is the replacement cost, im sure it is not fixable as it is larger than 2 hands.
that sux so bad man... i actually just prevented my lil brother from doing such a thing to my avant today lol. i walk outside and i see him swinging a rusty big axe around and he is a few feet from the car... no clue what the hell he was thinking
i dont know much about windshields to help... but i can tell u to make sure u test it after u get it done... (take a hose and slowly put water on it to make sure it dosent leak in...) i had a retard do my windshield on my jeep, he didnt seal it good and all the electronics fried after a night of rain...
As bad as it sounds, Safelight seems to be a decent company. A buddy of mine had them replace his, on his B6 A4. There was an odd warp in the glass that messed with some viability, they didn't screw around and got him OEM glass from Audi and replaced it the next day at no extra cost. I know nothing else about them, but they come to you, which can make scheduling a lot easier in some cases.

You'd be better off training a monkey to do it!! Your buddy got lucky and got an installer that somewhat knew what he was doing. Just use a reputable shop in the area....start asking your friends, usually word of mouth will get you to a good shop. Ask about their warranty.........
And that is NOT fixable, I have been in the Auto Glass buiss for 15 years.
There is a Speedy Auto Glass in your area..........call them.
Get your windshield tinted while you're at it and make sure the guy who does it has experience with these cars.
Most windshield guys aren't very good and either glue the headliner in or mess up the rearview mirror placement.
wouldnt worry about rearview mirror placement.. just about all replacement windshields come with the metal tabs already glued on. I paid 345 for an oem windshield and $100 for the install

Yeah, my cost on my OEM windshield was $190. I did have mine tinted prior to installing it, but I have a prescription from my eye doc........
OK so I just stoped by the shop as they are doing mine on thursday... The bill from Audi was actuly $732 tax incl.... The Foglights were $651... the grill was $143... My deductable... $200

Good advice 8520.
OP : Installers not in the know also commonly fail on the cowel install. Which will flood your car on the passenger side foot well. Water will rush under the cowel and through the pollen filter and into the cabin. There are some expensive electronic components under the passenger seats of automatic transmission C5's.
Make sure you pick a glass installer that has experience with your car.

GET COMPREHENSIVE!!!
holy money man :( that is alot of $$$$$!!!! Im going to speedy glass and check what they want and try some other shops around. Im worried they might mess up my install so i wanna find a shop that knows what they are doing. But 732$ i am not paying... that is ridiculous. Just like they quoted me 1000$ for a new cluster......
My OEM glass + install ran just under $800, but insurance covered it with $100 deductible.

There are three different types of auto glass you can choose from: dealer glass, Original Equipment Manufactured (OEM) distributor glass, and aftermarket glass.
1. Dealer Auto Glass
This is the windshield or other auto glass that you purchase from an automobile dealership authorized by the vehicle manufacturer to service your car. This glass is sourced from the same OEM distributor that manufactured your auto glass originally, and will often have the vehicle's make stamped on it. If you own an Audi and absolutely have to have the Audi logo on your replacement windshield, by all means go to your dealer.
2. OEM Distributor Auto Glass
OEM glass is made to the same specifications as dealer glass, but not necessarily by the same distributor. For example, OEM Audi windows are the same color, durability, thickness, size, and shape as the original windshield specs from Audi. Windows labeled "OEM" are virtually identical to dealer glass except they aren't always made by the same company that originally contracted with your vehicle manufacturer.
Why? Automobile companies change auto glass contracts from year to year, so the company that made your 2001 Audi window glass may not be the same company that manufactured your 2007 Audi window glass.
Let's say you need a new Audi windshield for your allroad. Your Audi window may have originally been produced by Sigla, so that's the brand you'd get if you went to the dealer. But if you went to an auto glass shop, you'd get your Audi window from another reputable OEM distributor (Saint Cobain Sukurit, for example) who makes the exact same windshield, to the same specifications. Because your windshield wasn't made by Sigla, it doesn't qualify as dealer auto glass, but it's just as good. It's so good that if you return a leased vehicle with an OEM distributor windshield, it will still be accepted by the dealer.
All OEM distributors contract with one or more of the various car manufacturers, and that's what qualifies them as Original Equipment Manufacturers. OEM is a good choice for your Audi allroad unless you absolutely have to have the Audi logo on your windshield.
3. Aftermarket Auto Glass
Aftermarket glass is made by companies that do not contract with any car manufacturers, and do not have the legal right to manufacture auto glass to the exact same specifications as OEM distributors due to licensing and copyright laws. Safelite is one of the main aftermarket or "original equipment equivalent (OEE)" auto glass manufacturers. Aftermarket glass is significantly cheaper than OEM or dealer glass. It's usually a different thickness than OEM glass, and most dealers will not accept aftermarket glass when you return a leased vehicle because the glass differs so much from the original design, and does not carry the same guarantees as OEM auto glass.
OEM auto glass standards require 100 percent windshield retention in frontal barrier crash tests, while DOT only requires 80 percent. Some aftermarket parts do not match the tolerance, thickness, and shape of OEM auto glass parts; therefore, they can have a higher rate of leakage, wind noise, imperfect fit, solar performance, and optical distortion.
Go with OEM glass
otherwise you will regret it IMO...
