    NM is burning up

for those that havent heard, new mexico is burning up. 2 fires on either side of el bosque south of albuquerque, the wallow fire on the arizona border, pacheco canyon fire north of santa fe, and now the las conchas fire in Los Alamos(where I work). The news is absolutely hopping about this fire, running non-stop, commercial free coverage, and facebook is off the charts with posts/pictures.
Here's a picture that started floating around earlier today, I work in the tan/white building.

just thought id share, its pretty crazy.

I feel for you man when I lived in California I saw the big bear fires coming in back in 08(never hit me but could not go outside, ash all over, flames all night out of the windows ect... Best of luck; its crazy force of nature.

I went back to WA 3 months later.

Yup, its pretty crazy, this fire started only 1.5 days ago and its over 60,000 acres(90+ sq.mi., to put that in perspective, its nearly 4x as big as Manhattan) The big thing is that its so close to Los Alamos National Labs, so you know the govt is going their best to protect that. Yesterday the fire hopped into one of the TA's(Technical Areas) but they got that part put out very quickly. That picture is of TA-03, one of the buildings contains some of the worlds fastest computers(worth billions of dollars) and the servers hold all kinds of classified materials. Almost all of those buildings are "behind the fence" and contain classified materials, cleanup would be a nightmare if the fire were to get to those buildings. There are a number of small buildings and ton of "open space" that is all lab property, behind the buildings you can see. I imagine they would shut down the city until all documents were accounted for. Oh and all of the toxic/nuclear material elsewhere at the Labs. The govenor summoned FEMA for this fire and the National Guard was deployed.

i just saw the edl (English Defence League) say this on their fb page:

"Is this a terrorist attack on America's nuke labs?

    http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/145251
    "
mmmm i doubt it... but then again if u were to want to hurt the U.S. and knew about all those labs and such (and lived in the area) starting a fire isnt such a hard task (i mean they start by themselfs in those areas...) then all they would need to do is hope for it to work i mean they have nothing to lose

tho i trust that the fire crews will get it under control....

i find it funny that we humans think of ourself as so advanced but we cant control natural disasters yet...
