Has anyone actually successfully recoded their ABS module?
Allrighty, the final piece of my 0A3 swap is recoding the ABS module accordingly. Unfortunately, I have been unable to get a successful login to the module. I've used Ross-tech's login procedure here with no luck. Based on my current coding of 04277, my login code should be 09577. I've tried a wide variety of combinations of waiting, power cycling, etc. all to no avail. I'm using VCDS Lite and a China cable, the setup has never been an issue and works to recode the engine ECU.
Has anyone actually successfully recoded their ABS module? If so, what login did you use? What software/cable ?
TIA.

I'm having the same problem.. My module is saying that it is incorrectly coded, then I recode it but it wont save the coding..
What other codes is your abs module throwing?

None.
I swapped to a manual transmission and want to code it accordingly.
You can't recode if there are codes/faults present.

What... are you serious?
That kind of answers all the questions of why I havent been able to recode it cause im throwing these three in addition to the incorrectly coded one..
18265 - Load Signal: Error Message from ECU
P1857 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent
01200 - ABS Valves Supply Voltage
35-00 - -
00778 - Steering Angle Sensor (G85)
66-10 - Not Matched - Intermittent
Anyways to answer your question, The ABS module let me recode it but it wouldn't save the code. I used an ebay cable/VCDS lite as well and I've had people use their official ross tech cables. I used login 09575

I just did this on a B6 about a week ago. I had the same issue: logged in, coded, but it wouldn't keep the new coding. Turns out you must first connect the module, then do all 3 steps before disconnecting from the module:
1. Login with a login code that match your new module coding
2. Change the coding to match your car (transmission change or what have you)
3. Perform the Steering Angle Sensor calibration.
If you do not perform step 3, it will not save the coding. Period. You must do it directly after the coding process, before you disconnect. If all 3 steps are correct, it will automatically clear the "incorrect coding" DTC and you'll be all set.

For those that have been able to login: do you get a "successful login" dialog box that pops up? Does the car you have successfully logged into have a TipTronic or manual transmission?

What was your original coding? What did you use for a login?

After entering the login, there is no direct indication the login was accepted. the only way to know is by next entering the recode value, then performing the steering angle sensor adaptation, then closing the controller and turning the key off for 10 seconds, will enable the new coding value to be stored. as "walky-talky20" and "seanf86" posted. The login>recode>steering angle sensor adaptation>close controller is done in direct order. 1>2>3>.

For the login/coding numbers, I had nothing to work with. The original module had been wiped by some non-factory scan tool and persons who didn't know what they were doing.
Anyway, I just used the Ross-tech coding helper for both instances (login/coding). I did need to check the production code using the options sticker on the trunk floor. PR-1LE as I recall. It was an early 2003 1.8T Tiptronic Quattro with factory 15" wheels. I have a genuine HEX+CAN cable and it worked the first time (that I got the full sequence right!).

I'm familiar with the process and have been unsuccessful in all my attempts.

original coding was 04275 and the used module i put in was coded as 00000 so i had to recode it to 04275. the login was the one on ross-techs wiki
i also made sure to clear all fault codes before doing this and not closing the controller

So, login=09575 and Coding=04275
Right?
Then login=40168 and do the steering adaptation.
Right?...Right?

From his first post, it seems as though he was trying to log in as Automatic, then recode as Manual - which is incorrect. But then he said he used the coding "from the ross-tech website", for which they only directly give the 40168 login (for steering adaptation). So I was just trying to see what he actually he used. The numbers I gave should be the stuff.

I didn't realize you were referring to me with your previous post...
Let's review:
-my car was a TipTronic
-I have since swapped in a manual transmission
-everything in the car is coded for a TipTronic transmission and now needs to be recoded for a manual transmission (I have been successful at recoding the ECU and the cluster)
-I cannot recode my ABS module, the purpose of this thread is to find out if anyone has actually recoded an ABS unit. Every response here has been for a manual transmission, has anyone been able to recode the ABS unit in a TipTronic car?
My attempts at recoding:
-clear DTCs in ABS module
-confirm no DTCs present
-login with 09577 (no confirmation of successful login, ECU does confirm successful login)
-change module coding from 04277 to 04575 (TipTronic 1.8T with small brakes to manual 1.8T with large brakes; closing the coding window reloads the window and the coding reverts)
-login with 40168
-basic settings group 001
-close
-key off
When I go back in, the coding is still 04277.
Hopefully that clears things up a bit....

Yeah, that's incorrect. (Let's imagine for a moment that you numbered those steps 1-8 to make life easier)
Step 3 should be: "login with 09275 because that is the login that matches my *desired* coding"
The login and coding are a matched pair, if that helps you understand it. The login has nothing to do with the current coding and everything to do with the new, desired coding.
Try that and get back with us.

I doubt that is the intent (based on my background login = current coding), but regardless I have tried that to no avail.

In that case, perhaps the Brembo coding is not supported by your module. I have to say that I'm not familiar with recoding for the purpose of larger OEM brakes.
Anyway, I'd try 09575/04275 combo and see if it takes.

Just a follow up for future searchers:
I installed a B7 steering wheel over the weekend and part of that process is recoding of the ABS unit. Installing the wheel zeroed out the coding of my ABS unit....I was then able to login using my OLD login information, recode to my old coding. I then tried logging in with my desired manual transmission login and then recoding....and it worked. Amazing. So, I have no idea where the problem was....all I know is that I'm set now. When/if I feel real spicy I may try to recode the braking....but for now I'm just happy to have ABS/EDL/ESP back...

The gremlins return!
Just for fun, at lunch I attempted to recode my brakes....now every time I use a login (doesn't matter what it is...) the ABS module fails to respond. Pretty fantastic...at least I got it set for my manual trans...

Find someone with VAG COM to scan and tell you what the problem is. I'd guess brake light switch....but I'm shooting in the dark.

from Vagcom wiki
0?xxx: Chassis

3 = FN3 16" (PR-1LT/1LF)
4 = HP2 16" (PR-1LX)
4 = FNR 16" (PR-1LA/1LG)
5 = FN3 15" (PR-1LB/1LE)

any clarification regarding codes for brakes. I am not sure which is 1.8 and 3.0 setup.

Ideally you could check the vehicle tag that the brakes came from.
FN3 15" is the standard 1.8T brake setup.
HP2 is the B5 S4 brake set up.
So, that leaves FNR...most likely.

I forgot to update but basically I wasn't successful. I tried using the current login code and went through all the steps from Ross Tech including completing the wheel angle calibration followed by the turn key off but the new code would not stick; moreover when I tried to login using the new code it would not work and I could not complete the re-coding steps. I have since not re-tried it.

More Info.
Coding Values:
1 = C54 (PR-1LZ) - No idea. Whats shittier than the 1.8t brakes?
2 = FN3 15" (PR-1LB/1LE) - 288mm B6 1.8t brake package
3 = HP2 16" (PR-1LX) - 320mm B5 S4 brake package
3 = FNR 16" (PR-1LA/1LG) - 320mm B7 A4 brake package
4 = FN3 16" (PR-1LT/1LF) - 312mm 3.0 front brake package
5 = Brembo 17" (PR-1LJ) - B6/7 S4 brake package
Thought I would throw this in here for good measure. I plan on upgrading to b7 brakes or S4 brakes in the next 6 months or so so I'll be sure to update this with my success/failure trying to recode.

One is the login, one is the coding. The numbers are different hence the massive amounts of confusion. NO idea why Bosch would do that....
