So im running a giac ecu and pushing 21psi on k03s. I left highschool to go to work and a loud pop and lost a lot of power and now i can hear the drilling... I thought they would last until winter to do my build with tials, but now im going with FT K04s due to a budget now. I worked for about 4 hours today just by myself and thought I got pretty far.
FT K04s
Vast Fueling
JHM Front Mount
034 Downpipes
Vast Meth
Just the start of the list..
Props to you for doing the work yourself dood. I don't know what I'm gonna do when my turbos blow up. Probably cry a little bit, buy a bike to feel better about myself, and then start ripping everything apart to take out my turbos and rebuild them or do whatever I have money for at that point. Gahhhh decisions, decisions. Best of luck with the build meng

You are the same age as me when I did my first motor pull on the S. Good luck with it man. If your school was like mine we had access to All Data so I used that and Bently to help me out.

can I get a hell yes for this. Same boat man. I've heard its pretty straightforward even for someone who doesnt really know what they are doing but I cant decide If im gonna want the labor done or do it myself...
Hey I feel the same thing is about to happen to me. I'm running GIAC93 on 17psi and KO3s started to whine this winter and now they are getting louder and louder. Inevitable is waiting to happen soon i suppose. Since I have no plans on going stage 3 I decided to keep it KO3 car and save money away towards B7 A4.
PS: Are your DVs sitting right? I thought they supposed to face eachother?

Honestly I think it'll be pretty simple. Sure it's time consuming but well worth it and you learn a lot throughout the process. I don't have a big garage or a big tool box and I haven't had any problems yet.
Regardless of the orientation, the DV is opened by vacuum applied to the 'low pressure' side through the small vacuum hose. However, in the orientation shown on the silver car, the pressure surge between the throttle body and compressor outlet is aiding the piston/diaphragm to open which means it will open faster allowing the turbocharger(s) to keep flowing, and with less of a pressure surge on the compressor that everyone is so afraid of. I'd never run DVs any other way, regardless of what someone on the internet told me.
4 doors, 6 cylinders, 6 gears, 2 turbos, 0-60 in under 4 seconds.

what do you plan on using to hoist the motor out? And are you kind of just removing as you go or are you using some kind of a guide?

When I did it, I just started disconnecting stuff until it was free. Its really simple once you get started.

no idea what I am running to the wheels, I am still tuning.
There are loops on each head that you can run a long thick bolt into and then attach the chain to. Drivers side is towards the rear of the engine and passenger side is in the front.

Honestly, I think I could probably do it myself, but personally, I'd rather just get it done right the first time. Yeah, you're going to pay a shit ton of $$$ at a reputable shop for labor, but it's going to be done right. As far as going stage 3 at all goes, I just dumped about $2k into the car for timing belt, valve cover gaskets, cam tensioner seals, clutch, and some other odds and ends, so I know I have a reliable and well-maintained S4 for my daily driving needs right now. Instead of saving up ~$8k for a good stage 3 build, I think I'll buy a gixxer or something to satisfy my need to go fast. I'm more than happy with my GIAC stage 2 power for how I drive - to each his own though. Like I said, I'm just going to wait and see.

Sounds like you got it on lock brotha. Just take your time doing things the right way the first time. You'll thank yourself when you don't have to rip the whole car apart again because it's not running right. Goodluck man and be sure to keep the thread updated!

But the blue car has them on the way they come from the factory.

Yeah man, within the past 6 months Ive dumped $7k in maintenance/suspension and its killing me! But in terms of stage 3 yeah i would just be nervous that I would do something wrong and it would end up being catastrophic. I will eventually build it, but lets hope my K03s last until I can afford bigger turbos.
I hear ya dood. I'm just saying, with the money that guys are dumping into these cars to go stage 3, I think I'd rather invest my money in something else like a bike or even just save the money. And it's not like you're getting your money back if you ever try to sell your car. Guys are taking like $6k-7k losses on their cars at this point. I don't know about you, but if I ever sell my car, I don't think I'll be willing to take that kind of hit.

I think I'll just buy a stage 3 S4 someday. Let someone else take the financial hit on it. I could build mine up myself for a ton of money, or pick one up for like $14k that's already been done with all new parts. I may eventually replace mine with K04's or GT25's when my K03's die, but then it'll be a little while before I have the money for fueling. I don't know why the fueling is so expensive for these cars. If these were Mustangs we could toss in a 255 lph pump and a bigger MAF, and Bigger injectors for under $1000.

Yeah I know. Honestly though, we can complain all we want about how expensive fueling or this and that is, but it's not going to get us anywhere. I don't really understand the point of going stage 3 and then selling the car 8k miles later. It's mostly people that try to cut corners and stuff, can't get the car to run right, get tired of dumping more money into it, and just sell it to someone so it's not their headache anymore. I don't understand the logic behind something like that - from a financial standpoint as well as doing all that work just to sell it...
I understand there are exceptions to the norm but shit, I don't think I've ever seen so many S4s for sale at once. Poorly built stage 3 cars aren't doing anything to help resale values of other S4s that are legitamately worth $14k-15k either. /rant
OP, anymore progress?
I find it ironic that the colors red, white, and blue represent freedom until they are flashing behind you.
Yeah last night i had a friend come over and help. We worked for about 2.5 hours. We got the front section holding the radiator, the fan, belt, intercoolers and a few other things. No problems at all. Found out i had APR Bipipe. I need to do my valve gaskets. Also i plan on replacing every gasket and starter since its been making a strange noise. Drained the trans fluid and oil. Tonight Ill have the fuel lines off, exhaust off. Basically everything under the car. Ill have more pictures when i get home to see last nights progress. I got a engine stand today. I have a engine hoist but its being used in another build that my dad and i are doing, so i have to pick up a friends tomorrow morning. I plan on having the engine out this weekend.
Im confused about the power streering... HELP
Also what do compression dropping head gaskets do?
Heres the other project at the time...
88 Foxbody.Chevy 350. When complete itll have about 700 to the wheels plus nitrous.
