I have a friend who owns a repair shop and he just picked up a b5 1.8T (non-quattro) and he is trying to decide if he wants to keep it or just sell it. The reason he is thinking he may sell it is because after about 10 minutes of driving the check engine light, oil light, and the oil pressure alarm came on. The motor doesn't have any knocks, should I VAG it and see what error codes come up to help him decide if its worth keeping or not? Anyone have any ideas if it could be an easy fix or if its something major and he should just sell it?

    Current: B7 OEM + and B6 USP OEM +
    Previous: B5 and B6, All OEM +

Well if I were m I would pull off valve cover off in check for sludge probably is the issue. If its sludge I would do auto rx on it and see if that helps.

Vag is a given to get codes first

Seems a little extreme to sell it without even running a VAG on it.

A repair shop owner should never sell a car because he is scared of potential problems. He should at least investigate them and provide an estimate for repair to the potential buyer. Better yet, fix it and sell it as serviced. For a mechanic to push problems onto a customer.... just so wrong.
