Holy hell that sucks Dave, makes me sad just reading that. If you're going to do any of the repairs yourself I should be around if you want any help.

Good times right.......
Wrong. Heading home, and the car is just not riding right. I try to find the problem, no go. I take things slow but the car still doesn't seem to be driving smooth. I look out the rearview and notice the drivers side rear wheel is oscillating. I slow down figure I better pull over soon. NOPE TOO LATE!!!!!!!!! Boom the car drops, wheel flies off into traffic. Lug bolts all over the place. How, why?!? Install is impact wrench, breaker bar to snug, and torque wrench to finish it off. Either way the wheel is off, and my brand new DTM rear is toast. And of course where is my new tow hook the one time I need it?!? At home on my work bench.
Can't wait to get the repair estimate!!!!
Wow... that is a terrible sequence of events. Sorry to hear about this. Good luck with repairs and getting this up and running healthy.

Jesus Christ! Sorry I didn't answer the phone last night, you are lucky to catch me up past 10 these days. That sucks so hard, Dave! I can't believe your luck lately. What did you do in your last life? Is the bumper repairable? I hope your wife isn't mad at you too!

Dave, extremely sorry to hear about this. I think we've all had a time where we couldn't catch a break. one thing will iron out, then another will pop right back up. sounded like things could've been a lot worst, but good thing you're okay and no one really got hurt. i'm just really curious to see what happened with your rear wheel. i'm guessing you might need new brake setup in the rear too? did it scrape bad?

Fuck. I didn't realize it tore through the middle of the bumper. Did you straight drag the rotor/hub on the ground?
-
Senior Member
Four Rings
That I did. I literally saw the wheel rotating oddly, said to myself "pull over" and then instantly DROP. I hit the breaks quick though so it wasn't far. Seeing your wheel roll down the street by itself is a crappy feeling.

It's at European Motor Cars now. And oddly enough they stated the Audi dealership has recently had some wheels stolen. And they had another car in where someone attempted to take some wheels. Whether that's what happened or something else?!?

Glad it rained after I parked at the shop last night, instead of while I was walking to find a taxi at midnight.......... Only thing that could have topped things was to have left my sun roof open.

Depending on the quote I will either fix the bumper or get an whole new one AGAIN! I was soooo close to being done!

Shop looked over the lugs, and came to the conclusion that they were too short. And the stress over time caused the failure. New lugs are on now. Getting an estimate on the bumper before I decide what to do. Also had them check for carbon build up while they had it, and it was minimal.
When I get back home thurs, I plan to pick it up and start maestro logging. A cracked rear bumper and stripped Non-sline front aren't going to hold me back.

In theory yes we could. But there are still too many differences. We will both start off with Ray's K0R file, but from there I don't see how we'd be able better the base K0R file with our differences in mods.

i was actually unaware ray was going to ship u a base K0R or even had a base K0R file... whoops! I thought u were going to start with a K04 file, and work your way towards the K0R in which case i thought it might be beneficial to snag the other person's file if they did it first but i digress a base K0R file is clutch. excited to see what your car can do!

Yeh, my understanding is, he's had a file ready to go just needs more cars. But Joe's car an mine don't have much in common outside of the K0R, after looking over his mods.

Yeh, even our hardware is different. I'm only running a Stage I HPFP and a 142bar PRV while Joe has the Stage II pump, and 145bar PRV. Different FMIC's, I have a TP he has a HFC, different DP's etc. So Ray will have his hands full!!!

Hey Dave, quick question - when you made your custom CAI, did you remove the existing SMIC bracket next to the turbo? I just took off the bumper to clean everything up and noticed this bracket was only held on with 3 bolts. Once removed it makes it a hell of a lot easier for custom piping for the intake

Just remove the three bolts and the bracket drops out. No reason to have it their if you have an aftermarket FMIC. I removed when I did my CAI as well.

Ok, maybe not.......... The bodyshop is getting the car today to repair the bumper. They won't be done until weds next week. Of course that's when I leave for work again!!!!!! So I'll try to pick up tuning after I get back then. But I'll need to drop off the car again at the paint shop as the hood, front bumper, and skirts need to be redone (they have a hint of orange in them). So here's to a May ETC. This has turned into a marathon, instead of a sprint.

Dave, if you want i can gladly take the time out of my day to pick your car up and take it for a few drives to help get it tuned ;-)

Just a heads up for those that take my original route, and go with an APR tune. Make sure you are getting the most up to date S3 K04 tune for your car. Recently received a pm from someone that may have gotten the wrong file loaded like I originally had (their out dated K04 tune). Just wanted to put that out there for anyone that may getting a tune .

How recent is their updated tune?
-

It's still a few years old. Without looking it up, I'd say 2009. But they had another tune from maybe 2007-2009 that was for a previous K04 they sold.
