Need help please! Sister spilled pop on the dash...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My little sister had a cup of pepsi in the cup holder and it spilled all over the dash. The radio is nonfunctional but the climate control still works. She later informed me that the battery slowly drains now (takes about two days) and the trunk won't open. She also said the alarm was going off for a while. I haven't seen the car in person yet and don't know all the details or the whole story but I'm heading to see it today and I wanted to get some information with some possible fixes before I go.

I searched and searched and couldn't find any solutions to problems like this surprisingly.

    Thanks for the help.

Now that's what I call a sticky situation.

Sounds like a joke.... A single can of pop couldn't do that. The only believable thing is that maybe the radio doesn't work? The can would have just splashed over the front of your radio and gotten the buttons sticky. Sucks to clean up, but it's just cosmetic. Wouldn't cause the battery to drain or the alarm to go off, our cars aren't made of glass.

    **edit**

and isn't the actual trunk lock mechanical? Shouldn't be affected.

none of the buttons on my key fob work, but that's because i took them rafting with me last summer, nothing to do with spilling crap on the dash :P

as far as the soda goes, the only issues were a dead radio and a sticky car.

Exactly, at worst you have to get a new radio, get your sister to give you the 30 or 40 bucks that it costs from ecstuning, I think they sell them pretty cheap IIRC.

Or use it as an excuse to upgrade your sound system!

I wish it was a joke. The pop wasn't in a can it was in a cup so a lot spilled. The trunk getting locked up coincides with the battery dieing and the alarm going off when she opened the doors while it was still dead. I'm sending her to get the battery checked.

It could be an comfort control module issue. If the seal was bad, it could fry. But you would need to hook out up to a vag tool.

well clearly you need to replace the radio. there are a few in the classifieds now so thats easy. i doubt the SODA spill is the cause of the battery dieing. but ide replace the radio and get it all cleaned up and go from there. and just to clarify....

    cook with soda?
    you mean baking soda?

pop came from "soda pop", soda is first :)

when it really comes down to it both soda and pop is wrong, ask any mfg (check cokes website) and it's technically called a "soft drink".

**update** Got the battery checked out and it's pooched. I'm thinking the radio was still pulling power while the car was off as bez101 stated bc it was a relatively new battery. I'm hoping this is the case and it isn't a comfort control module issue.

As for the pop/soda debate I've lived in the north and south but was grew up saying pop. It's a hard habit to shake. We call carbonated water soda up here.
