Before shots of engine bay. I took alot of these in prep for my engine pull
After a few hours of work. This is as far as I've ever torn down this drivetrain before. From here on out its new territory for me.

Stupidly forgot my camera at work today. Its ok though, tonight's work was pretty boring: disconnecting exhaust, drivelines, a/c. The fun part is putting it all back together with shiny stuff. Tomorrow/today (its 2 am here) I will be making a simple load leveler and yanking this sucker.
To answer some questions:
Tune is semi-custom remote tune from VAST using altitude/octane/fueling parameters.
Wheels are gunmetal ST120's.
I keep the parts in my bedroom so they can pleasure me on command. Especially my sexy intercoolers. No really, those ER's are huge, heavy, and beautiful.
I got the AR bi-pipes because they are tapped for meth, but that will be in the future.
Yes Mario, you can have a ride when I'm done.
Tomorrow is the big engine removal day, hopefully.

Always nice to see. Bring back good memories of my K04 install done last spring.
I enjoyed working on my car and i am proud that everything worked after doing the job :)

if it is not too late, upgrade to real Samco kit. i went cheaper way on hoses by getting some VENAIR hoses, saved ~$150-180. TBB went after 3 month - put back my used Samco. Driver side Upper IC hose cracked a bit 6 month later. 1.5hr labor to fix it (required removing headlight). there went my savings... and still not sure how rest will hold on. so to have a clear mind, i would highly reccomend Samco kit. $$$ but worth it.

I've got a Samco TBB already, which I am re-using. The other ones are super easy to replace if need be. It takes 30 seconds to remove a headlight, btw.

Maybe you should rethink what you're asking here. If you think you can get everything in his pic + 605's for $8k, I'm all ears.
a lot of people who never went Stage 3 seems to have impression that Stage 3 kit is all they need. In reality, all the supporting mods (proper ones) + maintanence u do with engine out + suprises u get with engine out more often than not end up costing at least as much as kit itself. in many cases quiet a bit more. and i am not even going to talk about labor $$$...
i think rough formula for going Stage 3 should be Price of Stage 3 kit x3. That is the money u have to spend (if done at a shop) if u start from scratch... and then be happy if final number is bellow that.
ps: that is not counting brakes or suspsension upgrade.

they might be with engine out, but with engine in? uppers - headligths, lower bumper. and the ones on the turbos, don't u need to drop subframe to get a full access to them?
doing boost leak test every 6 month cause u "think" u r having a leak ads up as well... :-)
na man just remove the headlight is all, and jack the front of the car upto get the 4 under neath, leave the bumber and everything on. iv done it quite a few times

Understood, i will make sure to take care of all supporting mods before getting the kit.

Another night finished. Engine is out. Broke a few things because I am dumb. Nothing too bad though. Here are some progress pics.
Took some more front stuff out to get to other stuff, mainly to remove A/C compressor
A/C system set aside and in tact
Hoist in place and homemade load bar and chain
Makeshift transmission jack
Voila!
Engine bay
Uh oh, I broke the damn slave
I broke these heater core parts whilst removing the hoses from them. They were really brittle.
Here are some shots I like to see when engines are out.
I took my downpipes off

Well, that was it for tonight. FYI this engine has 175k miles on it with original K03's. I am pretty OCD when it comes to parts cleaning, so this is going to take awhile to restore, due to an oil leak somewhere.
For anyone considering taking on this challenge: plan on breaking shit. I've already broken about $300 in random crap. Plus the wiring sounds like dry spaghetti noodles, which I will have to address. Also, plan on getting wet. Every damn hose seems to release an ocean of coolant. Look at my garage floor in these pics.
Since I have to order a few parts, I am going to take my time here. Paint some stuff. nite.

How did your K03's feel, any play? Looks like you had one mean valve cover gasket leak.
Felt smooth and good. I wasn't doing the build due to broken K03's, so I'm not surprised. If anything, it gives hope to those with high mileage on K03. FWIW, I was "chipped" (10secS4 ECU) for about 75k miles. Pulled like a train all 75k miles.
