Fueling install to commence in t-30min... then load my base tune... and see what happens :)

  2. #162
Well starting to install the fueling after work didn't pan out as I forgot my crimp tool @ home for the injectors... so... had to go home (after already pulling shit apart) and by the time I got around to coming back it was 9pm lol...

    Anyway's onwards with the pics...

    Old inj out...

    Made 6 pigtails...

Pigtails are now a part of the harness...

Oh so sweet ID1000's, all assembled and o-rings greased... no pic of them installed tho since I couldn't see shit anyway.

And of course... the first flash...

Then I did some playing around with the tune just so I could drive it home (was getting late)... and ended up getting a log...

Can follow the tuning specific progress here:

Nice... Im having a running rich issue myself. It keeps putting me into limp mode around 4500 but if I unplug my maf it dosent do it. Im chasing down the issue to see if maybe its my o2's or maf or something else.

  4. #164
Yeah I don't get a limp mode or anything like that... the car after 15psi just hits a wall (of fuel)... but otherwise seems to run fine. So I'm going to try to work that all out before I go any further... probably go up to my buddy Marco @ Magnus Motorsports and put the car on the dyno and start playing.

  5. #165
Welp, hit the dyno today... having some issues with the tuning... trying to lean it out, and sometimes it does other times not so much... also runs pretty lean during cruse and oscillates a bit... Otherwise the car is in top shape and pulls like a damn freight train even with just this base tune and super rich AFR (sometimes).

Not bad! And even more power to be had for sure with some additional tuning. Nice work.

More power for sure... I haven't even touched ign. advance at all, and running 10:1 AFR isn't helping things

Nice man... 10s will certainly slow the car down, once you get that AFR correct then start upping the boost you'll be way up there. Congrats!

is that in general yusko?? im thinking id up the boost a little now as far as tuning, depending on the fueling curve that may correct itself.

idk.. i may be looking at this bassackwards..

Well I'm just saying in his case I'd start with correcting AFR, getting more power out of just that being ironed out.. He put down a good number being bogged down by 10.0AFR, so there's power just in leaning out the mixture for sure. Once that was set and he wanted more power he could then do so by increasing boost and making fueling changes from there. Not sure how he's going to approach it but being on stock engine I would want the AFR correct before increasing boost.

You're right I will be correcting the AFR before anything... Turning up the boost is not the right way to go about this. Either way I'm making good progress on info with the guys over @ NefMoto and I hope to have my Wideband in this week so I can start tweaking again...

I will most likely pick up HP/TQ just by leaning it out.

Well starting to get somewhere with the tuning... finally...

Got my wideband installed, and my black S4 badge.

    ^^^ Thanks!

So yesterday I decided to look into my car a little more since the swap... I've been developing a missfire the past 2-3 days, and 2 days ago I got a blinking CEL from it (random misfire/misfire cyl 1)... so I got some new plugs (almost 20k km on the current 7E's) and after work I dug in...

Pulled the old ones... for whatever reason all 6 seems uber loose in the heads, it took no effort to loosen them at all... anyway, I pull #1 and inspect it. Plug looks good physically but after checking the gap I see why that one was having an issue... gap was now 0.032" obviously a little too large for 24 psi. I continue to pull the rest and replace them with a fresh set of 7E's gapped to 0.024".

Pic's of the old plugs... nice even colour/burn, no excessive wear or anything.. could have been re-gapped and put back in but for the cost of coppers it's not worth it.

Then I decided to check both DV's, make sure they not sticking... they're not.

And then pressure test the system just because I never did it since putting the motor back into the car with the new setup. Again, tight as a drum up to about 15-17psi before the pressure tester blew off and almost shot across the room lol.

Then out of dumb luck I had my MAP sensor disconnected at the TB (to get at the DV line) and doing so and turning on the ign/meth kit the pump will go full tilt (was going to flash a new revision). Well good thing it happened because I discovered that every single fitting was leaving HUGE amounts of meth. To the point that there was nothing coming out of the nozzles because there was no pressure left.

I'm assuming that the heat and meth after almost 2 years of use ate up the seals in them but WOW... no wonder I wasn't getting any cooling effect from the meth anymore since the new install (90+ F IAT's)

Video showing just the leaking Y fitting... after I already repaired the two nozzels themselves... and the output fitting on the pump leaks too...

So anyway... after fixing everything except for the output fitting on the pump (didn't have one to replace it with) the car drives a lot better now and obviously they must have been the source of a leak as the car is running a lot different now then before under boost.

Did another revision to the tune this morning, things are starting to get pretty good now! I'll update with some logs soon!

Did 5 more revisions today... a little leaner under boost (it's around 11.3-.5 at TQ peek to around 12.2 @ redline now) and richened up a few spots in the cruise area that seemed to be causing a few quirks... it's getting there slowly

No logs today tho, we had one hell of a hot day (107 w/ humidity) so I didn't want to beat on the car that much even w/ the meth now working @ 90%.

Honestly, the car @ WOT feels great! But @ cruise in certain RPM points it's a little weird sometimes... it's all a part of learning I guess, or maybe I'm just too picky lol..

I hope to get some logs tomorrow after work, weather is supposed to let up (we're getting rain/thunder today) as well.

Regarding meth kit. It appears that you have vast kit. Raplace as many fittings as it is possible with brass compression fittings from HD. My vast kit was leaking from almost every single connector after mere 3-4 months in the car. At this time, the only original items in the system are check valve and nozzles themselves. I replaced Y-splitter with brass T-fitting and pump inlet/outlet. No more leaks for months now.

Yup that's the plan... right now I used some new push to connect fittings I had laying around the shop... and to be honest now I really wonder how long it took for it to start leaking, I'm almost starting to thing after the first summer (3-4 months).

The VAST kit leaks because of the tubing size, if you go to metric sizing on the tubing, it seals up nice and tight
    I don't think I care anymore

You might be right about that too, I'm currently using metric size quick connect/push lock fittings and the tube is nice and tight and no leaks. Either way the compression fittings will ensure a nice tight permanent seal.

My kit is from 2008 and hasn't leaked since day 1... Not sure what Devil's Own changed over the years but the tubing I thought has always been the same. VAST doesn't repackage what D.O. sends them.

Well got out and did some logs tonight... not too happy with them to say the least, nor am I happy how the car drives... I think I'm going to start from a completely stock M-box base this weekend and see how things go from there...

Either way, at least I've made progress and I've learned quite a bit about how the stock ECU works/thinks.

Ignore the red line/run, it was incomplete.

Are you starting from a new ECU together or just the file?

Actually, I was planning on starting with just a new file (base/stock M-box), BUT! I finally found out what made the car run like crap!

All along it was KFMIRL! SOB, and I only noticed it after I made it worse (twice) trying to avoid throttle cut and what not.

So I ended up copying a stock M-box KFMIRL map over, set the top end load and smoothed it from 70% to 99%... Voila, car drives like butter!

After that I started to play with the WGDC, but quickly realized that the stock FP was already near with max with just running off the WG @ 22-24 ps and quickly started to go lean with inj drop outs, and higher CF's again... so I'm back to my minimal WGDC map so I can go buy the part I need for the 044 and slap that in sometimes this coming week!

    I'm pumped.

Damn man... Your injectors are way so big for this setup. The second boost comes on you're dipping low 11's high 10s AFR. Continue to lean it out some I bet it'll feel nice!

How much boost are you running? It falls below the MAP for a little bit then creeps back up just wondering what your target is.
    VAST Performance Stage 3 B5 S4 | Videos

  36. #196
Yes it's still on the rich side which I'm ok with right now. Keep in mind the meth also skews the values a little.

I'm really only running wg pressure... So like 22ish for the most part and 24, max in higher gears (5th +) with more load.

There is still progress to be made no doubt. But the car drives like it is stock now, which is what I was struggling with for a while.

Also my wideband tells me the narrowband o2's are a little optimistic.

Correct... and even if I don't... these injectors (ID1000's) scale so well it doesn't make a difference to them at all to ride around at a low pulsewidth.

I meant to add, can you do a pull from 2500 to 6800? Your FATs times (although you shouldn't chase those of course) are being hurt by the fact that your just getting into full boost or still on your way when it starts at 4200. I'd be interested to see boost ramp up from 2500.
