Exclamation OVERHEATING AND BLOWING COLD AIR ON HIGH HEAT IN CAR- HELP!!

ALRIGHT GUYS SO I OWN A 1997 AUDI A4 B5 1.8 TURBO 5 SPEED QUATTRO WITH 193K (AEB) BLOCK ON IT. A COUPLE MONTHS AGO ON A VERYYY COLD MORNING -35F OUTSIDE I STARTED CAR AN WAS ON MY WAY TO TOWN AND NOTICED THE HEAT INSIDE OF CAR PULSATING FROM HOT TO COLD THEN WENT ALL THE WAY COLD AND NOTICED MY TEMP GAUGE CLIMBED TO ABOUT 3/4 OF THE WAY HOTT. ENGINE RUNNING FINE STILL , SO I PULLED OVER POPPED THE HOOD AND NOTICED COOLANT COMING OUT OF THE CRANKCASE VENTILATION VALVE AREA. SURE ENOUGH MY CRANKCASE VENTILATION HOSE WAS CRACKED AND ALSO THE CRANKCASE VENTILATION VALVE HOUSING WHERE THE TUBE CONNECTS , SO I WENT TO NEAREST GAS STATION AN FILLED CAR WITH THE ONLY COOLANT THEY HAD. ALL PURPOSE. JUNK. I WAS RUNNING THE WRONG COOLANT I FOUND OUT. THE GREEN STUFF INSTEAD OF RED G12 WHICH I KNOW NOW. BUT ANYHOW I PROCEEDED HOME . CAR IS IN GARAGE AND TOOK THE WHOLE FRONT END OFF OF CAR. I JUST REPLACED - WHILE IN THERE- THE CRANKCASE VENTILATION VALVE , THE CRANKCASE VENTILATION HOSE AND ALSO THE TEMP SENSOR HOUSING ON BACK OF ENGINE WHICH I FOUND A CRACK IN ALSO I ALSO DID THE TIMING BELT AND TENSIONERS WHILE IN THERE AND ALL OF THE BELTS ON CAR ARE NEW , I REPLACED THE WATER PUMP FINDING OUT THAT THE OLD ONE WASNT EVEN BAD, AND ALSO REPLACED THE THERMOSTAT AND ALL SEALS PUT NEW SPARK PLUGS IN. THE PROPER NGKS AS I FIND OUT I WASNT SUPPOSE TO RUN THE BOSCH ONES I HAD IN. I FOUND A PINHOLE IN MY FORGE DIVERTER VALVE WHICH I PATCHED WITH 2000PSI INSTANT EPOXY FOR NOW. CHECKED ALL HOSES . NO ANTIFREEZE IN THE OIL BY THE WAY FROM WHAT I CAN TELL. RUN FULL SYNTHETIC MOBIL 1 AND GERMAN MANN OIL FILTER ALWAYS. ANYHOW I GOT CAR BACK TOGETHER AND STARTED ENGINE AND IS RUNNING PERFECT. PURRS. CHECKED WITH OBD SENSOR AND ONLY CODE WAS SPEED SENSOR CODE, NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS. ANYHOW MY CAR PROCEEDED TO HEAT UP ON TEMP GAUGE 3/4 HOT STILL AND THE CAR IS STILL BLOWING COLD AIR THROUGH VENTS ON HI HEAT . THE TOP AND BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSES ARE BOTH HOT TO TOUCH WHEN CAR IS RUNNING AND THE CAR SUCKED COOLANT WITH EXPANSION TANK CAP OFF AN BUBBLES COMING OUT AS I WAS FILLING AND THEN STOPPED SUCKING COOLANT AFTER ABOUT ONLY ONE GALLON OF G12 RED COOLANT . NO WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT OF EXHAUST. AND NO LEAKS ANYMORE THAT I CAN FIND, OR SEE. NO DRIPS. I AM AT A LOSS AS TO WHY IT IS STILL PERSISTING TO BLOW COLD AIR AND OVERHEAT. NO SMELL OF ANTIFREEZE FROM INSIDE OF CAR , BUT THE HOSES RUNNING TO AN FROM HEATER CORE IN BATTERY BAY OF CAR REMAIN COLD WHEN THE CAR IS RUNNING HOT ON GAUGE. AND WHEN THE OTHER HOSES TO AN FROM RADIATOR ARE HOT TO THE TOUCH. I AM AT A COMPLETE LOSS. THE CAR STARTS AN RUNS FINE. DO YOU THINK THIS IS A VAPOR LOCK OR BUBBLES IN COOLANT SYSTEM CAUSING THIS ? AND IF SO WHAT TO DO TO GET THEM OUT? THE CODE IT READ ON OBD WAS P0501. DONT THINK THAT HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. BUT I ALSO HAVE THE GREEN TEMP SENSOR ON THE CAR SO ITS THE UPDATED ONE IF IM CORRECT AND LOOKED FINE WHEN REPLACING TEMP SENSOR HOUSING. ANY HELP OR ADVICE IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. I WANNA BE ABLE TO DRIVE MY BABY. EVERYTHING ON THE CAR IS NEW PRETTY MUCH .. 14,000 IN REPAIR RECIEPTS I HAVE... DONE ALL WORK TO MY CAR MYSELF, JUST HAVING THE ISSUE WITH IT OVERHEATING AND BLOWING COLD AIR STILL. COLD TUBES RUNNING TO HEATER CORE. FANS ARE WORKING ON HIGH AS NORMAL. ALSO AFTER THE EXPANSION TANK WAS FULL AN NO LONGER SUCKING COOLANT WHILE FILLING IT THE OTHER DAY WITH THE ONE GALLON IT SUCKED THROUGH ONLY I SHUT CAR OFF DUE TO IT RUNNING HOT STILL AND LEFT IT. WENT BACK AND THE EXPANSION TANK WAS EMPTY.. FULL WHEN I SHUT CAR OFF AND LEFT IT. NO LEAKS NOW THAT I CAN SEE AN STILL NO ANTIFREEZE IN OIL. IM THINKING VAPOR LOCK OR AIR BUBBLES OR POSSIBLE PLUG IN HEATER CORE? IDK WHAT ELSE TO CHECK OR REPLACE. ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED!! :/ HAVE PICTURES OF BROKEN PARTS THAT I REPLACE IF THAT WOULD HELP. THANKS

You probAbly have an air pocket or two in your coolant system. You will need to bleed the system. I can't post links from my phone so search for coolant system bleed. You can try to move tr bubbles by quickly squeezing your top coolant hose multiple times..

Please don't type in all caps! It is hard to read.
As dcampana said, bleed the coolant system.

seriously i can't read pass the second line.
turn off the cap and paragraphing is your friend.

other than that yeah, try bleeding the coolant system first.

Coolant in the breather system. Has to be a head gasket.

I am experiencing the same problem on my B6 A4 1.8t. My heater is blowing cold air and under wot load, the temp gauge climbs to about 3/4. I tried to bleed the cooling system but i think i have a large air pocket inside the heater core from the last diagnosis. I thought the heater core was clogged but i got some clear vinyl tubing from my local hardware store and flushed it with hot tap water in both directions. It was free and not clogged. I proceeded with mixing a little CLR into the water and let it sit in the core for 10 minutes, then flushed it back and forth with water until the water came out clear with no bubbles. I uncapping and elevated the overflow tank as high as possible, and bled the coolant at the heater core rubber tube and at the hard coolant line on top of the engine. The heater is still blowing cold air...

There is no way I am gonna read all of that. Sounds like you could have air in the system and could have a plugged core. I have had two B5's both had plugged heater cores. There could be a plug somewhere else as well but the core is the most common.

To bleed air out of the system use the bleeder valve just behind the power steering pump on the drivers side. Its an 8mm allen socket I believe and you will need an extension and I think a u-joint if I remember correctly. Squeeze the top radiator hoses with the engine running to circulate any air trapped there. The engine should be hot i.e. under pressure. Dont just open the valve and leave it open. Open it a little bit and let some air out until you see steam or actual water then tighten it up and wait a minute or two and do that again. I am not sure if this is the actual method needed but it is what I have done in the past and has worked well for me with more air coming out every time I open it.

Flush your heater core look at this article

If you have white foam on the underside of your oil filler cap then your head gasket is likely going out and you will have more issues that just a cold cabin and a hot engine. Also check for oil residue floating in your expansion tank. This is also a sign you head gasket is leaking.

Hope this helps. Best of luck.

Sorry just realized the bleeder screw location is for a V6. Not quite sure where it is on the 1.8, should not be hard to find though :) Same process

I read the first sentence and couldn't read on anymore...chill with the caps buddy. It sounds like you have a bad waterpump with a possibly stuck thermostat.
