    We have lots of interest in a group buy. I talked to Anth, I am going to call Ross-Tech. I will try to today, but I might not have time at work until after they close in which case I will do it first thing tomorrow morning from home

    Hi David, indeed a great job.

    one question, do we need a new BCM2 module for this LED mod?

    But you need an extra wire from inner LED to outer LED on both sides - and this applies for A4 Avant and A5.

    A4 Sedan should be fine as it is today.

    Couple quick questions:
    1. Is module 46 accessible in '09 AMI/non-Nav P+ Sedan to make these various changes - Rene, believe you said awhile ago there is some 'hidden menu' access in "MMI basic" (ambient lighting, TPMS menu, battery state).
    2. If so, can '09 P+ Sedan bulb tails be changed to ROW LED tails - bulb amber turns [later change to LED], no side markers.
    Am I 'off the island' here

    An extra wire is required for A5? I thought the general structure is identical between A4 Sedan/Avant and A5.

    No, there is a wire that joins the two lights together. The A4 doesn't have it. Looking at the wiring, it seems a bit strange for the A5. It shows 2 reverse lights per side. Is that how it is on the US versions?

    EDIT: Interesting looking at it more. The wire that joins them is ROW only, not US. The ROW light shows 3 light circuits on the inner light but only 2 on the US.

    The entire transparent part of the tail light, both on the outside and on the trunk lid, is the reverse light.

    You are absolutely right, and THAT (the RoW) coding is no minor change, having spent the better part of several hundred hours and about 4 months myself, working with Kufatec into the J393 (BCM2) to get eCode LEDs to function correctly, (all lights working as they do in RoW without bulb faults) on my NA S5. And I know of only three such cars so equipped as a result. I'm sure you've found the multiple level of coding (NOT so easily reached in VCDS alone) to have been a fun challenge. Great work and looking forward to your continuing documentation...

    This IS possible - as myself and two others have eCode tails (LED w/amber bulb turns) working correctly (all NA B8 coupes). But, as David notes, this is NO mean feat, and simple VCDS coding is NOT possible - the J393 BCM2 where this coding takes place is multilayered, and NOT all accessible via VCDS...

    Yup, the B8 coupe for NA uses BOTH clears as reverse lights, unlike the eCode which uses the outboard one as a turn signal. btw, the eCode version has an amber reflector (which the NA DOT version does not) there for the signals, which use a clear bulb - even on the LED versions. The wire you mention, is the cross wire to the inboards for the brake light. These lights use PWM to adjust brightness between the tail and brake. I can remember saying that there was a "hidden menu" in MMI basic (red/black screen), but I remember posting the codes to enable the MMI menu items on MMI basic - http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...=1#post5961276

    You still haven´t mentioned the possibility of brightening tail lights as position lights , I mean for halogen cars.I think this would be great as there´s a lot of contrast between halogen and tails in position lights, not to mention when they ´re functioning a brake lights!

    Thanks Zee, would like to get a few A5/S5's. Just curious is your car Euro or NA? Hard to tell from your signature. In order to do a remote scan you need to install Teamview software http://www.teamviewer.com/en/download/index.aspx and just have internet access while you have VCDS running on your car. That and let me know when your ready to go. Should take about 10-15 mins tops.

    Just let me know what time you guys will be ready to go Sunday and we'll get your scans added.

    There has been progress on getting the channels mapped but scans are needed to determine where the differences are between the bulb and LED lights so we know what has to be changed for a conversion.

    David - how do you do so much on your car without flattening the battery????

    I spent a few hours on mine with VCDS recently (ignition on) and the car self protected when the level got down to 20%. I'm low mileage so it'll take a few days to get it back up again.

    Does your car live on a trickle charger? ;)

    Keep up the good work.

    David - man, I'd love to have you scan my 2009 S5 NA car with fully functioning eCode LEDs at the rear - (all coded by Kufatec) but, I just happen to be in the UK on business until about 1st week of April. Plus they want to make one last tweak (by remote to Germany) to fix a hyperblink in the dash and a "data set implausible" message in VCDS ...at least one of the other two successful cars coded this way - and one of them is PERFECT - may be able to volunteer.

    @rnlabas
    That would be a great help. Please do a full scan before and after (no need for a security access code). Although I'm sure the only changes are done in the adaption channels, I'd love to get this confirmed.

    @David
    Remember my mail after I coded my module to NA-led? Same eror message in VAGcom, so we already have the same state of knowledge like Kufatec :-))
    Maybe they should arrange a closeout sale for their dongles - who's going to buy them when we release everything? They must hate us ...
    retrofitted (OEM+): tow bar, bluetooth&rSAP kit, pdc+, color dis, light&rain sensor, auto dimming mirror, highbeam assist, auto folding&dimming mirrors, charisma switch, alarm, electrical front seats (memory driver side), light package+ambient lighting+illuminated door pockets, heated rear seats, xenon incl. auto leveling+headlamp wash system, side assist, illuminated exterior door handles front+rear, LED taillights, auxiliary heater, powered rear window blinds ...
    next: we'll see

    When Kufatec should find the correct coding, they used many "new" units (46), and they more less destroyed them all - but I think by now they have earned all the money back times at least 50.

    So we're even better since we didn't destroy anything?

    You can say that

    You also have an advantage, because you'll get codings from both LED and non-LED cars - which you can use in the search for the correct coding. Kufatec found the coding before the S4 was available for sale (which was the first B8 with LED tails).

    David, my NA 09 S5 is the one with the 100% working ROW lights(no errors and no hyperblink) that rnlabas mentioned above. Kufatec did a remote session and got this working for me. Let me know if you'd like to scan my car, I have a VCDS and don't mind helping out at all.

    This is how they function:

    Thanks - I was hoping you'd spot this. NOW we can get the security we want/need...
