Why do people put fake badges on their cars!?
I don't get it. I'm driving to work today and up ahead is a silver B7 A4. As I get up behind him I see that there's an improvised S4 badge on the trunk. I can't quite put my finger on it, but something didn't look right. First off, the 4 wasn't even lined up with the S, but in addition to that it didn't look like the same "S" that on our cars. Either way it was obvious the car was a regular B7 A4 cause it only had the double tailpipe on the left (no quad pipes) and didn't have the silver side-mirrors either.
Anyway, i'm bringing this up cause I don't get why people do that. I think Bimmer owners are the worse offenders as I've seen so many non-M cars with the M badge. What boggles my mind the most about this is the only people that are even going to know what that S (or M, or AMG, etc) even means are the same people that are going to know that you're not actually driving that car you're pretending to be.

For the same reason they add 20" wheels, lower it till it is dragging on the ground, because they think it looks cool.

Pretty sure all B7 A4s have dual-outlet exhausts (at least in NA). You may have been looking at a B8. But ya, fake badges are power-adders

B7 A4 has one pipe on each side. B5 and B8 have two on the left.

why do people spend 65 thousand on a car that can be beaten in all regards by something well built and 35000 cheaper?
I have an E21 that is getting an s14 swap. does that mean if i put an ///M badge on it I am a ricer? do you even know what an s14 swap is?
My first car was an 89 ford probe with a carb'd 351 windsor swap and a 3.73 rear. had a resonator and 2 mufflers to keep it sounding like a stock 4 banger-or close at least.

You know what really grinds my gears, people who talk a big game about horsepower and don't have the greasy hands to back it up.

I think you're missing the point here. I'm not calling out people who perform legitimate mods to their cars (by the way a buddy of mine actually has an '81 3-series...great looking car). So after you do the engine swap (yes, I'm an avid auto enthusiast and have owned multiple BMWs...i know what an S14 engine is. I didn't question your intelligence, so why question mine??) on your bimmer are you putting M badges on it? I guess in your case, technically you could swamp the badge if you're really doing everything to make it an M, but you're a rare, rare case. My point is, why put badges on your car that are for a different car? If I got the new APR ECU for my S4 should I slap an "RS4" badge on it cause i'm now in the hp territory of the newer, proposed RS4? If I slapped in a larger supercharger and some different pulleys to get even more power so I just slap on an R8 badge?

I don't see what the problem is.
I ran into one of Hitler's elite guys (retired) the other day in his Audi "SS"
I also saw an all black, SUPER rare Audi M3 (you could tell by the M3 badge on the trunk lid) which looked oddly like a B6 A4. No pics, it was moving way too fast.

The M badge goes on the 2005 BMW 330ci ZHP. It says M in the gauges, on the shift-knob and the door-jams. And the Rims.. That comes that way from the factory. Although, it does not say M3.. Just M.

Sean.

Money can't buy taste as the saying goes. There's a local guy who drives a Sprint Blue B7 RS4 who has it badged as an A4. Personally I'd debadge before I'd "up" my badge. I do know a guy with the Porsche turbo badge on his 97 Chevy blazer...but it does have a twin turbo kit on it lol. Ok one last badge story...so the techinician come up and get me one day, a gentleman of the urban persuasion is looking to put W12 badges on his A8. I show the techs it can't be done 100%, W12s have an insert on the door trim strip for a badge that regular A8s don't. He just does the W12 rear badge. Same gentleman is in for service one day, i hear him talking to another customer in for service, who comments on his car and that he's driving a W12 and he's never seen one before. Walking by I quipped, "it's not a W12, he just put the badge on it. The exhaust pipes are a dead give away." Needless to say he was mad, and defended it was, I said pop the hood and walked back to my desk lol.

I like when someone has the same car as you but its modded... and modded wrong... they show you all kinds of stuff... for instance a filter on a stick an they say I bet you don't have this... then you drive up an pop your hood an they're like oh... I miss riding sleeper status in my dubs. The audi is super sleeper on 15" winter rims right now lol.

It was more than a hint of sarcasm, but it was not an M anything. It was someone (local to me, I have seen the car on many occasions) who debadged a B6 A4 and put an M\\\ on the trunk lid.

Or the guy who put the Apple logo on his S5....then got flamed so badly on here...
I hate debadged BMW's with body kits trying to pretend they are M. The other night, I was driving home, so idiot in a debadged 5 series with the M spoiler and some body kit was trying to race me after I ditched him at the traffic light just earlier. Seriously, if you are going to pretend to be a M, at least change your exhaust, dead giveaway. Not even a 535, it was either a 528/530 or 525. Makes a lot of sound but no performance.

Re-badging has got to be one of the most stupid "mods" that I've never understood. There's a guy in my neighborhood who drives around a silver USP B6 A4 but has an RS4 badge on the back....fail.

Not the same as what is really being discussed here....But a guy from Jersey used to have a B5 S4, he sold it and bought a 135i. He wanted to be with Audizine at Waterfest in the expedition area....So he taped on Audi rings. The people at the front gate let him in because they saw rings. It was hilarious to see the 135 there. Funny and I can't believe it worked.
Just kind of goes to show people who don't know cars just believe the badge!

I saw a Ford Focus, with the "o" swapped to an "u", which reads "Fucus"
Of course there are a few Toyota trucks with all the letters but "YO" removed from the rear tailgate..
