That's a great site! Yeah I like Nikon and Canon equally. Just not sure what gives out a better image.

The Canon looks to be a bit more comfortable in your hand (notice how all the functions on button are in reach of your right thumb when holding the camera).
Also in turn though, I'm not sure if the Rebel gives a live action shot in the LCD. I'd like to be able to use both the view finder and the LCD.

one of the links does state that the nikon has slightly better image quality though...

I'll have to check the file for the settings i used. I used shutter priority, and started like 1/30 second and worked my way up to 1/100. I took rapid fire shots at each setting. I took about 75 shots to only come to this one and maybe 5 or 6 others that were usable. I don't really like to read on how to do things. I like to figure things out on my own. I understand the principles of photography, and i understand what each setting does. But I just take a ton of pictures and then sort through them later. It doesn't cost anything to take a picture with a digital SLR, where as film its costs you each time you release that shutter. I carry about 4-5 2gb compact flash cards. I don't like too big of a card, because if the card gets corrupted, then you lose all the shots...split the shots over a few cards, and if you lose 1 you still got the other cards. 2gbs are good for my 30D oh and i shoot raw all the time. get bigger cards for SLR's that shoot at higher resolutions.

It has live view, I think pretty much all newer Canons have it.

Canon and Nikon both make remarkable products, so you'll be much more limited by your ability as a photographer for a LARGE amount of time before you're limited by your camera if you buy either one of these brands. That being said, here's a few pointers that I considered when making my decision between them initially...

-Do any of your friends have a Canon or a Nikon DSLR? If they do, it will be easier to get insight/knowledge about using the product (brand specific) if you have a friend handy whose brain you can pick.
-as above, which do you prefer in terms of ergonomics? Since both companies competing pretty directly with each other in the DSLR category, they are pretty competitively priced and equipped so you'll get a very similar product if you pay the same for each brand.
-If you end up really getting into photography, you'll be happy with either one but I find Canon accessories, lenses, etc. to be more readily available and more frequently available used on sites like amazon.
-Lastly, if you are familiar with photography, you can determine which lenses you prefer and which company offers the lenses you like to use at better prices. For me, the Canon 50mm f/1.8 lens is a GODSEND, at $100, its value can't be beat. Its amazing. That alone would sway me towards Canon over Nikon if I was on the fence still.

In the end, I think most PROS use Canons or at least Canon lenses, best in the business as far as most people are concerned. If you have more questions, shoot me a PM and we can chat. Best of luck!

i have yet to play with lighting so i tried a little today although i only have one flash that cam be used remotely (my nikon sb600)
for my first try and only having the one light besides the pop up flash on the camera which acts as the commander i think it came out alright
definitely thinking about picking up another sb600...

i would have shopped out the flash reflection and the reflector glare but i was to lazy and just ran it through lightroom lol

Looking to pick up a faster lens for and it's between 35mm f/1.8 AF-S ($200) and 50mm f/1.8 AF-S ($450). I wish I could use the much cheaper 50mm f/1.8 AF ($135) lens but with anything below a D90 you lose the auto focus. What are your thoughts on 35mm vs 50mm? Price difference is roughly $250 which is quite significant.

a 50mm is a must have lens for any photographer...you really cant go wrong...

its only a 15mm difference...do you find yourself taking more pictures in the 35mm range or in the 50mm range?

    and give this a read...
