It could be a million things... Rear diff, propeller cv joint. Propeller shaft bearing, transmission or even tires or rear axles.

Check your rear diff fluid level and make sure its not super low or close to empty. They like to whine like a supercharger when their low on fluid.
Mine currently is sitting due to the same problem it sounds like your having and will be worked on today as I finally have some time off work.

i had / have this same problem. Rear passenger wheel bearing was shot, and replaced that. Now this week, the drivers side decided to die as well.

Couple easy ways to check if this is your issue as well:

    1. Jack up your car so the wheel on the side you think is making noise is off the ground. Grab the tire at 9 and 3, and try to wiggle it back and forth. there should not be any movement. if you can move it, then your wheel bearing is gone.
    2. listen to it while you're driving. this isn't quite as accurate, but if it makes more / less noise when you're turning / the steering wheel isn't straight ahead, then its likely your bearings as well. but i recommend using the first option to make sure you diagnose the problem accurately.

Also, i'd replace them in a pair (ie do both rears at once). apparently its pretty common for the other to go shortly after one goes.

    hope this helps
