MMI Traffic work in Canada?

Specifically, does the Audi MMI TMC traffic system work in Vancouver.

Also, does Vancouver have the detailed 3D maps for the Nav.

Unless you are buying a brand new A8 you are pretty much out of luck. Audi is quite behind of the times in the B8 and B7 standard models.

Sirius Canada doesn't provide TMC like Sirius USA.

When I got my A4 just over a year ago I had full coverage. By that I mean all of the GTA showed the colour coding for traffic flow and hitting the Info button gave traffic incidences. About a month later that all went away. :( I then called Sirius US and somehow managed to convince them to reactivate the Traffic portion of my 3mth free service. Calling Sirius Canada proved usless as technically said service isn't available.

I have since renewed via Sirius US and still have Traffic. Granted now only a small portion of the Gardiner shows traffic flow but I do get traffic reports and the system will re-route me if there is something causing a major delay.

Not having this service fully working isn't Audi's fault rather Sirius Canada is having problems getting the rights to offer the data. IIRC correctly our Gov't is the roadblock to all this. A quick google on this topic will provide a better explanation.

I'm told that they, Sirius, are working on it and hopefully it will be rectified.

It's a shame that Sirius Canada isn't better by fully explaining why this isn't available here and/or Audi making a point of explaining it vs. having us the owners thinking something is broken or having a feature we feel is broken.

To the OP - I will make a note of zooming into your area to see if it shows me traffic flow. I'm not sure if actually being in the area is required to pull the data but either way I'll check.

Not sure if you are aware of this or not, but Sirius Canada is a separate company from Sirius USA. This is why TMC is available with Sirius USA but not Sirius Canada. If you sign up with Sirius USA then yes you can get TMC, but it only has limited info in a couple of the major cities. The Canadian company has been claiming that they are hard at work to provide TMC in the next few months, but they've been saying that for years. So don't hold your breath.

No, not an A8, just a lowly S4 (Quartz, Prem., 6MT, all options incl a couple of SPO items) .

How does the new MMI in the A8 differ from the MMI 3G when it comes to traffic data reception? I guess if you pay that much, you must get traffic reports from the Almighty himself.

To others, thanks for the replies. The traffic is not a big deal for me on my daily commute (only 8km) but it's still a feature that I would use at other times. I guess if I really want it I will have to get a Siris US subscription but I still wonder about the coverage in Vancouver. In reading Audiforums.ca, it seems only Toronto is covered for sure and, even then, it does not seem to cover all major roadways in the city.

Curbkiller, look forward to your findings re traffic in Vancouver. Appreciate it.

There are some traffic reports that trickle through for Vancouver. It's off and on. Usually it's jus Highway (both #1, and 91/99) that have reports. and there is always I5 reports in the info as well.

Downtown Vancouver has the 3D maps as well.

Working today in the Toronto area, too! MMI showed it was updating my subscription, and when it was done, the Info button actually showed (at least some) traffic events.
