Smart Key has worked properly in the past now when I approach my 2009 avant I can no longer unlock/lock the car with the key in my pocket.Any suggestions or is this a dealership issue.

it is not the battery problem. this happened to me once, the dealer replaced a sensor for the door handle under warranty.

Similar thing happened to me. Can you still use the push button start? For me, they replaced the door module and antenna I think.2009 A4 Misano Red S-line

^^Yes, Engine Start/Off button and trunk still work. But door lock/unlock function is disabled when sensor/module fail.
