    How to change headlight bulb

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys, a headlight bulb went out on my wifes a6, just wondering if its easy to change the bulb, i have a b7 a4 and i know i have to take the bumper off to change, is that the same case with a c5 a6? I dont want to take it to the dealer cause they will charger like 60 bucks for it, but i can just get the bulbs myself and if its easy enough to install. I did a search but nothing came up, that leads me to believe that its fairly easy, but just want to confirm. Thanks in advance

    try this thread

you can probably change the bulbs without removing the headlights but it would probably take longer to actually do it

    just remove the headlights

you'll need a T30 and a decent extension to reach the third bolt down in the fender

pretty easy from there, slide a towel under the headlight before you do anything so you dont scratch the chrome under the headlight or the bumper itself

mine took me about 40 minutes for both. I left the bumper on and just went at it.

does the headlight absolutely need to be removed? or can it be replaced by just reaching behind and removing the bulb? i do have a t30, and i think i have a decent length extension....did any of the screws fall down and get lost? thats always what i worry about when doing this stuff on cars.

on the rear side (of the headlights) there was a couple "clips"... on the passenger side I removed the intake to make it easier... Follow these steps, that is what I did.

thanks for all the help guys....got it done it about 40 minutes too....was not hard at all...definitely do not need to take the headlights out, the driver side is a little harder to get the cover off, but its doable

Also need to say thanks. Saw this thread yesterday and used it to change mine out as well. Cut the piss outta my hands, but then again, my hands are more like paws and I'm used to carving them up when working on the cars.
