    JH Motorsports 4:1 center diff install – HOW TO – for 02X 6-speed M/T

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
hey a'ziners - we just performed our 4:1 center differential upgrade on our newest employee's 2004 B6 1.8t quattro 6 speed avant. check out this write-up to see how you can remove and re-install your diff to get this awesome upgrade!!!

**note: this write up is for the 2004 and up 6-speeds only (02x transmissions) only, however the concepts are 80 to 90% the same for all Audi Manual Transmission cars with quattro. The main difference is that V6 or V8 cars need to have the exhaust partially removed to gain access and the diffs look different. Also the 5-speed B5-B6 A4s are very similar except that the center diff comes out with the rear housing and is stuck inside the housing, requiring removal of a hidden snap ring. If needed, you can send us your whole 5-speed tail housing in with the diff still in it and we will gladly take it out, modify it, and put it back in. Additionally, the 02 and 03 6-speeds in the 3.0l cars are 01E transmissions and have the same bolt sizes as the ones depicted in this write up. In order to remove the diff you just need to unbolt the exhaust to get it out of the way. The tail housing is shorter on these transmissions and includes a cap and a spring that is in the cap along with some shims that must not get lost.**

    alright. let's begin!

that should be everything! we stock all of the driveshaft bolts and gaskets featured in this write up as well as the above mentioned redline mt-90 transmission oil.

let us know if you have any questions. you can email us at sales@jhmotorsports.com. enjoy those twisties!

Nice. Killer price on the website also. Might end up sending mine in for that good a price. How much will this affect the car at the drag strip? I don't drag regularly, but it does get dragged, and I don't want to hurt times at the track...

It is best for twisties but with super stiff suspension at the drag strip the stock diff is best. If your suspension is stock or you adjust it soft enough to get some squat to the rear tires then the 4:1 diff is best. We have cut a 1.67 60ft with our B6 S4 with stock suspension and this diff.

    Thanks.

So with KW V2s on moderate stiffness I should stick with the stock diff. Darn, wanted an excuse to mod something new on the car ='( lol

The rear spring on the KW's is soft in comparison to other options. I don't see that you will have any issues with the 4:1 diff at the track.

mmmboost, definitely send us your money!!! . you really can't beat the price that this upgrade is going for right now with the sale. even when it's not on sale, we are still selling this upgrade for much lower than what other companies do it for.

dougy, jhm stands behind all of the products we sell. we haven't had any issues with these upgrades so far. we carefully inspect each of the differentials that we receive before we modify them. if we don't think the differential is in good enough shape, we won't modify it.

since we are simply modifying the differential and not sourcing a new product we cannot provide a full warranty on this modification. like i said though, we stand behind our product and care for our customers so we'll do whatever it takes to help solve an issue *should* one come up.

feel free to contact us with any further questions you may have! sales@jhmotorsports.com.

Would this install procedure be the same for the 01X tranny?

The 01X is the front wheel drive version. The 02X is the AWD version. Same transmission. Some however use 01X to designate either.

So yes if you have an 04 and up 6-speed A4 it is the same.

    Thanks.
