I'm still curious why 034 sent me 5 sets of rod bearings? I wounder if they sent me the audi 5cyl rod bearings instead. I have OEM spec bearings BNIB and they appear to be the same, and the ones from 034 seem to fit properly. Why they sent me an extra pair is beyond me... I also received 2 sets of thrust bearings. (Perhaps they are different sizes to achieve the proper axial clearances?) I'm going to mic them and see if they are the same size.

The thrust bearing thing is normal. They are different thrust bearings correct?
Ill be joining the BAT club here soon. Making the leap from chip k03 to gt3076 w/ meth this spring. Hopefully I will enjoy this a bit more. Engine is being built now, custom garret core, wideband conversion, ect. Look forward to a GTG with the local BT guys.

make the GTG in Chambersburg! thats only like an hour away for me
That downpipe looks a little low. Mine sits down around there and I hit it on everything because it is lower than the subframe. I hate it and can't wait for the day I decide to spend money on new custom turbo-back exhaust.

Nice! I coudn't imagine the jump from K03 to 3076 with meth. Done every step and it $UCK$. APR 1+ with TT225s, K04, 71r Eliminator, 3076....

True, it can cost a lot. However having done the same thing (K03, K04-015, K04 hybrid, GTRS elim and now a T04e in the works) I found I learned a lot. However I also fabricated everything myself and did all the work myself. Also, let's face it, it's the thrill of the hunt for power rather than the power itself. So I don't really have any problem with doing it all in stages, but that's just my 2c

efffff that, if I knew it was going to be this hard, I would've just bought a Evo.
Has anyone ever tuned for a 4" MAF housing? I did some very brief searching and found some threads Chris (bananas) posted on MAF scaling with Maestro, and I know ASP tuned Doug's car (which I'm also considering) with their 3.5" housing. Just curious, was a thought that crossed my mind....
good point Issam.... i guess I was thinking 4" OD. Basically looking to eliminate any reduction in size from the turbo inlet to the filter....
But that wont really matter and I am not sure if you will even have the room for it. Its not like the compressor blade is 4" in diameter. You remember you have the anti surge housing on there so you could have a 5" comp housing inlet and a 3" MAF OD (~75mm OD , 70mm ID) would suffice. Whatever the case talk with your tuner and see what they would like to do but the largest issue with these set ups is the fact that there is no room once you go top mount :(
If you go with say Tapp, then Chris uses the a8 4.2 MAF. If you go with ASP then they might use a different 3.5 MAF, etc.. so pick the tune first, then follow their hardware.

Yeah, MAF housing/sensor and injectors need to be figured out via which tune you will use. You can then make the TIP accordingly...
Yea, I know the hardware and software have to match. I was just curious to whether anyone was running something ~4" to prevent stepping down the size of the TIP.
My TIP starts at 3.5" ID and opens up to the 4" ID on the compressor. If designed and fabricated correctly, it won't be a restriction.
I've seen your setup. I was simply just wondering if anything was ever done running full 4", but Issam's post pretty much sums up that it would be of no benefit.
I haven't started my TIP as I do not even have my motor back in yet because I'm still waiting on my head. Even then I won't be able to till my manifold is complete and arrives.
Again, I was merely curious to whether it had been done before.
I completely understand why you asked. I am just blurting random bits of nothing. I've done both MAF and MAFless setups. I'd say the MAF setups are better on fuel, seems to be more precise tuning from the tuners.. but MAFless makes life SO much easier with install.. plus when you are going BAT, what does 2-3 mpg really matter unless you're anal, like myself.

its more than MPG. its drive-ability and a whole lot more.
Can't believe you took your head there.. they are fine with domestics, but i have NEVER had an audi/vw friend tell me they went there... and i know some nice 500+ 1.8t swapped cars in the area. They have all had Krimes do their work. Obers completely f'ed a few motors for some guys.

I have drove a few MAFless cars doug. Where in drivability is it? I drove Bryan (turbqatavt or whatever) home in a mafless car. There is no drivability difference in that car then any other car i've ever drove. No stumble, no part throttle issues, no WOT issues, idles perfectly fine. The biggest difference, is it gets 23-24 mpg on the highway and not 28-29 it did when it had a MAF.
I didn't realize it was going to be a struggle to cut some valve seats... Bob claims to have done "quite a few" of the 5v heads. It's not rocket science, or so I thought.
