So I bought this car 2 years ago with 45,000 miles expecting to turn it into an all around fun car that would do great at Auto-x, road course, 1/4 mile, and some highway fun The original plan was to go ahead with a nice stage 3 set up, but a lot of new products have recently emerged in the past 2 years that have made me change my mind on what power adders to use. About a year ago all of the TiAL threads popped up, with all the great reviews I decided one of these kits would be the best choice for my goals. One year later i sit here today with a TiAL/EPL S605 kit
The original plan was that I was going to do this over the winter but my car; like other S4's, chose when to do it for me. 2 days before h20, pulling out of the car wash and on my way to pick up my woman so we could go to OCMD, my passenger side k03 died. (I was horrified at the thought of taking my beater Honda civic to h20i instead, which i ended up doing). That monday right after H20 I called EPL and spoke to Robin for the first time, the rest is history. This is not really a "build", I'm just bolting on new parts but it's a lot of work so i figured I'd have it all documented in a build thread. I will be starting the install within a week, just waiting on a buddy of mine to give me the green light. We're using his garage at his house to do it because mine is too cramped up by random shit and an E60 M5.
The car: 2001 Audi S4 2.7T 6-speed with 64,000 miles on the clock.
To be installed:
TiAL/EPL S605 kit utilizing TiAL Inlets
Timing belt kit
Valve Cover Gaskets
STOCK BLOCK & STOCK HEADS
Parts already installed:
Southbend Stage 4 Clutch w/ Sachs race PP
Fidanza Lightweight Flywheel
Advanced Automotion Rebuilt Transmission
ASP Track spec engine mounts
034 track spec transmission mounts
Apikol Rear Differential Mount
Rai 3 inch catless downpipes
AWE-Twin 1 catback
AWE DV1 Diverter Valves
KW Variant 3 Coilovers
Other stuff that's listed in my signature but I'm too lazy to type out
I'm also going to have to buy some kind of feul pump, thinking a bosch 044 should be sufficient. ****UPDATE**** Went w/ Bosch 044 drop in solution from 034 Motorsport.
Now there are some things that I will be ordering after the kit is already installed. Either ER or AWE intercoolers (which ever ones are a better deal during holiday sales because I'm a cheap ass) and Aquamist Water-methanol injection. ****UPDATE**** Went w/ ER Intercoolers & Shrouds.
1 question for you guys, HFS-3 or HFS-6? Big difference? Should I just go with the HFS-6 aquamist kit?****UPDATE**** Went with the Aquamis HFS-3 Kit.
I'll be updating the thread periodically and will be asking you guys some questions I'm sure throughout the process. Got some tips from robin, "measure twice & cut once (inlets), don't over tighten the oil/water lines, pull ecu out of car when install is complete, crank 3 times for about 15 seconds each to prime the turbos up real good, torque everything to spec". Any other tips and tricks anyone else would like to add? I'll be following all of the DIY threads and videos on here. I'm going to buy a bunch of little baggies, sharpies, and even different colored zip ties so I can know which plug goes where on the harness. Any other suggestions?
Goal for the car is just to be a really strong stock block car, and to kick my brother's E60 M5's ass hahaha.
I also want to give EPL 2 thumbs up; especially Robin, for helping me sort everything and always picking up the phone and dealing with my dumb questions. If anyone is contemplating picking up a kit from them have no worries, they're a great group of guys up there
Thanks for looking!

She is beautiful. Very clean low mileage car, she will rip. Also went from 6 to midnight over that m5. You have great taste.

Talk with Dave, Robin, or Tony @ EPL about which meth kit to go with. I forget the exact differences but when I did mine they told me that there is no need to the HFS-6 and that the HFS-3 perfect for our cars, (well at least a 605 setup). go with the 3, mine has been flawless.
That's what i was thinking, the price difference should pay for my 044 pump. Thanks
no problem, feel free to pm me if you have any questions. I was in your exact shoes not to long ago lol. I had a front mount and ended up switching to wagner smic's take a look at those too, they are top notch.
btw if your on a budget for now, and theres nothing wrong with your fuel pump you don't HAVE to upgrade it. I made 450awhp on EPL's dyno with my stock fuel pump. Not one hiccup in the last 6 months of beating on it. I do plan on upgrading in the near future when I go back for a retune, but like I said you don't have to change it right off the bat.
Sounds good, the plan was just to do a mild street tune for now with aftermarket smic's and then install w/m and have the dyno tune done sometime in jan/feb. If I can get away with stock fuel pump until then making low 400's for now I'd be 100% fine with that. really appreciate all the insight thunder.
excellent. great turbo choice! while not 100% necessary, go with an 044 and sleep well.
Thanks man, i def will be doing the 044 pump. there's one in the classifieds for cheap but its got 6,000 miles on it. Might just wait and get a brand new one.
good deal, you will love it. Mine is a beast, when your ready have Epl throw it on their dyno. You'll make your buddy look down to make sure his M5's not in reverse.
wait, 605's +W/M? on a stock block? what power output r u looking at? i assumed 605~RS6, so on 93 gas with a good tune is ~450WHP. adding Meth on top, u r going closer to 500. not afraid of braking something?
I spoke to Robin about it already, he said i'll be fine, they'll tune it to be safe when i do the dyno tune. I already showed my brother a vid of that e85 noggy stage 3 beating the M5 in cali, he wasnt to pleased haha.

i am sure it has been. for occasional runs u can get away with it. as a person who takes car a to a road course tracks once in a while, where u do 100% power for 30+mins, i would prefer conservative/safer setup.
The car can be setup to make whatever power the owner feels comfortable with. I'm sure they will take a couple psi out of the tune and get him to a healthy, conservative 450whp
I'm thinking maybe even pay for 2 files, a conservative one for track days keeping it at 400-420whp and then a street hammer down file
i am not EPL or VAST as far as technical knowledge, but looking at what i heard/people on AZ did, ~450WHP is a good conservative tune for a stock block. to achieve that with 605's (RS6) u do not really need W/M. i think u can save some $$$ and have one less headache with maintanence (meth suplies, leaks, etc). i am sure EPL with Dyno tune can get u 450whp just on 93 gas.

that may be, but when the summer hits again IATs will sky rocket and suddenly he will see meth equipped k04 cars right next to him.
aquamists compression fittings and quick fit connectors are top notch.
Awesome, Pete! Let me know if you have any questions as it goes together. I can ship a care package with an 044 and an Aquamist kit whenever you're ready! :)

Haha i never even got one of those when I was away at college, EPL loves me more than my parents do.
I think i might just do that right before i come up for the dyno tune. I'll definately ring you up when I'm in need
how is the MTM with the dp's? I have an MTM chip/Neuspeed exhaust and the car is nice, but I want more power! I wanted to do dp's and a fuel pressure regulator down the line to get a bit more...
A little conservative, with that set up my brothers previous e46 m3 would take me by a car. he just had titanium exhaust, lightweight wheels, csl bumper (light), no sunroof, no power anything.

Yeah lol the MTM is very conservative but also very very good for a custom tune. The software writer at MTM, Peter Link, is one of the industry's best. That said, I love my tune, and I'm sure I would love a GIAC X a hell of a lot more, but I simply can't be thinking about new turbos anytime soon.
I'll be following this build closely. A met up with another member on here and got a ride in a Tial 605 avant and was very impressed. If things at work hadn't blown up the past couple of weeks, I may have had my own thread. Good luck with the install and then humiliating the E60.
Actually if you have EPL do the labor, the the dyno tune is free. If you do it yourself, you have to pay for the dyno tune, revisions are free regardless i'm assuming. I cashed in on their facebook special and received the free dyno tune though :)
