why are your winter rims way better than my good (only) rims?
Picked them up on Craigslist for $250, bought some powder and just painted them tonight. Only finished two and have to wait until Tuesday to finish the others. Then there will be some full shots on the car.
It just takes a little paint to make a wheel look special.
Some more wheel updates; I decided to added a strip of snowboard related stickers to the barrel. I thought it would bring some life to the wheels (like the candy teal doesn't).
thread jack - rome makes quality products man. what type of board(s) do you have?
I have:
Lumbergh 153 (retired)
Artifact SK 153
Headroom 156 (retired)
Mod 156 (retired)
Pusher 156
Agent Addictive Collection 156
Agent Rocker Addictive Collection 157
Anthem 158 (retired)
I also have an autographed Burton UnInc 152 (wall piece) and a Lib Tech Phoenix that TRice used during the making of The Community Project (another wall piece, with the "retired" boards).
how do you like the rome rocker boards? the libtech is sweet and the magnatraction makes riding in the east a whole lot easier. have you ever road a split tail on powder before?

I liked the high-end Burton bindings, but they aren't worth it to me ($300+ is just ridiculous). I, of course, ride Rome bindings (Targas and 390s; rode the United the first year they came out..loved them, but they had serious durability issues. Now the Targa and 390 have the footbed baseplates, which I love).
I really like the Rome rocker boards. I find they are better balanced than a lot of other brands (Burton being one of the big ones). By well balanced I mean that the rocker is actually well balanced with the contact points of the edge so you don't get a super sloppy fell like you do with a lot of rocker boards. The new Agent Rocker has what's called the "Quick Grip Sidecut" which is there own variation of magnatraction; you get multiple contact points, but rather than being overkill like Libs, you get it where you need it.
I have yet to ride a swallow tail, but I have been told that no board (not the Burton No Board) rides as well as a swallow in the deep stuff. I'm trying to get my hands on one for my trip to Jackson in March.
yeah i agree, the price of all burton gear is retarded, but there is a burton outlet 30 min from me and i think i got the c60s for like 75% off offseason. i agree the lib mangatraction can be overkill, sometimes the middle of the edge will dig in harder than the rest and the board flexes way too much, but it is a park board so it is understandable.
jakson hole is legit, i want to get a swallow for this year, my friend just bought a house about 4 hours up into maine so i will be making good use of his couch many nights this year

I used to really like Burton's bindings, but since they started doing the "living hinge" highbacks the quality has gone down. They cored them out so much to make them lighter, but they have sacrificed durability for the sake of lightness. I've seen so many highbacks breaks and Burton is one of the few companies that's super anal about receipts for warranty claims. I've also found their sub-brands (FourStar brands) make complete shit for product, mainly the outerwear. I had a bunch of Special Blend stuff a few years back and ALL of it needed to be sent back for warranty (and by all, I mean 3 jackets and 4 pair of pants). I had some Analog stuff that fell apart too and a jacket that came without a flap (it was a flap the covered a bunch of pockets). I've vowed since to never buy Burton products again.

That looks awesome! You just officially pushed me to go with blue. What paint supplies did you use? That looks really good.
I bought candy teal from Powderbuythepound.com. I wish I would have done more to prep the wheels, but I just cleaned them and sprayed them. The original clear coat has cracked and you can see the cracks through the paint (if you look close). The candy layer is smooth, so I'm not worried much about that cracking. All in all they are just for winter and I'll probably dismount and respray them OR just sell the setup. I am definitely kicking my ass for not doing more to prep them for paint; just wanted to be lazy and get them done (because it took 3 weeks to do my 19s).
I like. I think I am going to paint my extra wheels a similar color...more like the rotiform blue.

I have a buddy who is in an industrial design program so he has access to the gun and oven at school.
As for the process, well I was lazy this time around and just cleaned the wheels with Xylene. I masked the barrels with oven safe tape (painters tape doesn't work, it will burn) and we just sprayed them. I wish I had at least removed the clear coat over the original powder because it cracked while in the oven. The candy coat is fine, but you can see cracks in the clear behind it. Oh well, it's a unique texture (at least that's what I'm going to say to justify my laziness).
Again, they are just winter wheels so I don't expect them to last forever (or even be on the car for more than the duration of the snow season, which is about 6 months in Colorado).

I was trying to go for that color, but couldn't quite figure out which color it was. Brian said it was a custom teal.
