I ended up going back to Breck yesterday with the girl. Glad we did, there was 8" when we got there and it kept snowing all day. I was still finding little stashes even later in the day, but things were warming up so it wasn't as fluffy.
Still - couldn't ask for much more on one of the last days (if not the last) of the season.

Went to Breck on Saturday...was pretty damn shitty. Couldn't land switch on my skis without washing out, the slush was so heavy it'd just take me wherever it wanted. Got a ton of holes in the landings of the rails too.
Pissed I missed the new snow yesterday and today though! I'm real happy the crowds/traffic weren't bad.

So I know there really isn't any powder left, but I was wondering if anyone ever hits up Loveland Pass around this time of the year?
I know it is possible, as I was just up there 2 days ago and saw a ton of tracks... but how safe is it? I'm somewhat familiar with avalanche danger by reading shit online, but have no experience.
Is hiking up that trail at Loveland and then riding down to a certain point a possibility at this time of the year? How are the conditions in regards to possible avalanches? I would assume that now with the weather getting warmer, you don't get the full freeze-thaw cycles (which make the snowpack "stronger").
Is there anywhere "safe" (meaning you don't need all the gear) to get a few turns in?

Just stay off the headwall (northwest side) and keep clear of cornices. It's that time of year where the cornices will drop and spring slides will happen. I'd guess that cornices are more of your concern as I highly doubt there's much snow to even kick up a slide at this point.
And take a rock board as the snow is probably very thin and you will fuck your base up.

Did you get your pass already, TJ?

My issue with that pass is the partnership with Alta. It's stupid for a mountain like Jackson to partner with a group of elitist bigots like Alta.
It's a good deal, but snowboarders are expected to pay the same as skiers who get an extra mountain on their pass. That's just ridiculous.

Looks like a good deal, right up until you figure in travel expenses to hit up the different resorts. I will probably just get 1 or 2 4-packs for Keystone this year. Hopefully there will be good snow here in CO.

Most of the snowboarders I know have 6-figure salaries..... good idea to ban people with that income level. Who wants them around....

I'm debating it because two days in Aspen and two days at Jackson and the pass is paid off. I'm getting my Epic pass as usual, but this is something I'm thinking about to add to my pass list - plus with Kirkwood being on the Epic pass now, it wouldn't hurt to have Alpine and Squaw as well - then a Tahoe trip would be fun.

I went with the Epic Pass again this year. Aspen is so far away, and lodging is out of control, and I'm not sure if I would travel to the other resorts to make the Mountain Collective worth it.

How expensive is Jackson Hole for a weekend trip. Compared to the big 3 Colorado ski towns.
-

I can't really comment on a weekend, but when we went for a week it was about $500 per person for 3 days on snow, a 4 bedroom condo, split gas and food.
A weekend would probably be more and vary based on the amount of people.

Speaking of, I need some new bindings..... I takes me about 2 mins+ to get fully strapped in mine. What are my options, on an extremely low budget. From what I've researched, Clip in = BAD. But there seem to be soooo many names for the same type of bindings. Rear-entry bindings, Side-in, Slide-in, Flow-In etc..... All I know is my current strap-ons aren't fun....

Step-in and Flow are things you stay away from.
I still really like Rome bindings, but of course their more expensive bindings (Targas mainly). Burton has the Mission which is a great binding for the under $200 price which I'm sure you can get for less since shops probably have them on sale.
Otherwise I have a pair of Rome 390s sitting in the back of the avant which belong to a buddy and he needs me to sell. Nice bindings, definitely on the softer side, but some people love that. They also have gel straps. Great binding, just too soft for me. He's asking $90 for them - they were barely used. Color is a bit wild and out there, but personally I think it's the best color they offered. Let me know if you're interested.
For reference (the only thing that has changed is the toe strap): http://www.romesnowboards.com/bindings/390/

I'm getting excited about the season, but figure I need some snows on the car first. Being this is my first winter with the S4, any recommendations? I ran Blizzaks on my STI and they got me to the slopes well. Thinking about the same or Dunlop WS 3Ds. Any thoughts?

I run WinterSports and like them a lot. If you are willing to shell out the cash, Nokian Hakkapeliittas are the way to go.

I've been looking at the WS 3D myself. Based on the reviews/ratings on TireRack, I think that will be my next winter tire. Haven't had blizzaks, but did run a set of Yokohama Ice Guard tires on the A4 the first 3 winters. Like 'em, but wear quickly and sometimes squirmmy on high speed dry pavement freeway driving in warmer weather. Pretty similar to Blizzaks as I understand. Ran Michelin PA2 performance winters for a couple winters after that, not as good ice traction, but much better dry pavement driving, decent in snow.

I second that about Nokian. Had Hakkas on my Pathfinder and they were awesome. Running WS 3Ds on the Audi now and they were great on all fronts last winter, but last winter was a creampuff.

You'll probably see me on here, but I'll most likely disappear from the "scene" once that's all said and done. It's such a drive to come down for things, but whatever. More reason for you guys to have to come up...I mean the roads are more fun in the mountains anyway.
