It took three trips in the last month, but I finally got AOA to agree to change my piston rings.
Looks like it will take a week and I can only imagine the cost out of warranty.
I think I am approaching $5k in warranty repairs since ownership:
Intake Mani
Water pump
Steering hose
Pcv
Piston Rings
Good thing I am covered till 100k.

I read someone on audiforums site was able to get their warranty extended by 24k/2yrs due to oil consumption and piston ring replacement. I will inquire about this with AOA.

With all this talk of TSB's being out there, does anyone have TSB ref #'s? I don't see alot of Canadian input here and am pretty sure this is happening to my 2010 with only 16000km's on it
I am beg. To experience the same now... Im at 27k apx and i did an oil chance at 25k my oil level in less than 2 months.. Well 1 1/2 months and 2k miles after is 1qt under half already... Im lucky i get free refill if im under 5k miles or before the three months. But def is not that normal. My 2009' M5 wouldnt burn as much oil as this car :(
I have been monitoring my oil levels since I noticed it was burning oil faster then I expected. I already had to fill it up and once and wrote down the mileage. So far I've gone 280 miles and have burned almost half a quart (according to the MMI reading). I'll be taking it in soon and have them do a consumption test....
I have been waiting to put miles on my motor since they replaced the rings & pistons before bringing the forum up to date. So far at 5000 miles , the engine has used approximately 1/4 qt of oil. At this rate I expect to not have to add oil between suggested oil changes.
I asked for an apointment on feb 24th... I'm leaving the car there for 7 days as I'm going on vacation. They better find the problem this time. This will be the third time I ask for this issue to be taken care off. Last time, I brought the milleage at which I added oil... pretty much the same frequency as now... They told me they didn't found anything and to keep monitoring the oil !
I had the Oil Consumption TSB done, crank seal and updated breather valve. I picked my car up yesterday they didn't top off the oil and left at 3/4 full which is good so I can see if how fast it's eating oil. I need to drive it 630 miles like the others mentioned and bring it back. They said they would change the oil when I bring it back. Also if didn't fix the problem then they would have to change the seals.
I'll report my results when I bring it back.
Btw I like my dealership (Audi Concord). My Advisor treats me right and don't try to BS like some of the one's I've read.
Update: My car passed the oil consumption test after the TSB was done. It's only been 850 miles - MMI still shows full. I'll report again if oil level starts dropping or after 4150 more miles... I change my oil every 5k.
To be honest I didn't think the TSB would fix the problem as I was burning a quart every 1k - 1.5k miles. So far it's looking good.
I had TSB 2027731/2 performed today (PCV and crankshaft seal). Oil was not topped off, so sitting at 3/4 full. We will see if it changes much before my next oil change in 3500 miles...
Just had the dealership service tech calling me to confirm the apointment on the 24th. They will replace the PCV + crankshaft seal and will aparently do a re-flash also...We'll see.....
I just had my rings replaced under warrenty 32,000 miles. I passed the oil consumption test too, but they offered to do the replacment, so I went ahead with it (They gave me a premium+ 2012 Q7 for a week and a half to drive). So far no complaints, but I have yet to put on the 500 miles before I have the car reflashed.
I never would have thought a thread I started over a year and a half ago would still be going so strong. Kind of sad actually. I really did love my A4 but in the end it was the fact I had to have my engine rebuilt with only about 60K miles on it that got me to consider trading it in. Make no mistake, I really do miss it but I sure do enjoy my 11 WRX. I hope you all get your cars fixed and this oil consumption debacle cleared up.
ya'll who had the PCV fix done, on your service invoice does it say they flashed the ECU? I know some of you had it flashed with the service, but my invoice doesn't specify such and I cannot access my ECMS :(

Yeah Hender, they wipe the ECU as part of the TSB.
Make sure when you go back to the APR dealer that they understand you have a new ECU part # now after the factory flash.
So they will have to account for that when you get APR tuned again.

My invoice also did not state they flashed the ECU, but they told me that they "flashed the ECM with new software" when I picked it up. They also never mentioned anything about doing an oil consumption test... they basically just performed the TSB. I actually brought the car in for a different issue (RPM fluctuating/car stalling when engine cold), so I'm glad they at least did this TSB. I have only had the car for less than 3 months, and did an oil change right after I got it, so not sure how bad the problem was to begin with. But I will say the MMI read 3/4 full after they did the TSB last week.

thanks for the heads up. what a pain in the ass. not to mention after my last abortion of an ECU upgrade, i'm kind of worried...

My 2010 A4 2.0 TFSI is burning a whole lot of oil, i've never seen anything like it. It is doing something like 1L PER 1.000 KM
It has a few mods to it, chipped engine and has sports four pipes exhaust, plus it is a lot heavier than most A4's, because it is bulletproof.
Is this normal???
Please help me with this, I feel that I can't rely on the car for a long trip, because of the oil consumption.
Thanks in advance
I have also a 2010 A4 2.0 TFSI and bulletoproof, also living in south america. Mine is multitronic and hast 250kg aditional of armour, i have 1lt/2500km oil consumption, dealer says it's normal. But i also have a clicking sound in the exhaust while iddle (not turned off engine). Also have a clicking noise when accelerating hard (and i feel it on the accel pedal)
anything under 0.5L/1000KM is acceptable for the 2.0T, according to Audi Canada at least. I'm sure it's the same worldwide.
Ridiculous

Wow this is starting to worry me a little, my 09' Avant oil light comes on usually about 1500-2000 after I change the oil. Although I haven't really noticed any problems, I currently have a liitle over 48k on it and is CPO'ed so if I have to have this done after 50k will I still have to pay a deductable?
Had the PCV valve and seal replaced, updated ECU and oil topped up. Service report just says found TSB, but didn't list one explicitly. SA told me to do oil consumption test, even after they performed TSB.
Oil meter in the MMI still shows 100% after about 700miles, and mpg went up from 20 to 22.
Just had my 1st service (25k miles) on my 2010 Avant (CPO I picked up last may). 1st thing they asked me when I brought the car in is if it had been using oil, I said yes but they didn't ask me how much or anything. I actually don't think mine was out of the ordinary after reading all these threads.
Anyway, they found the TSB and performed the ECU/Seal fix. They measured the amount of oil they put back in the oil pan and I have to go back in 600 miles to see how much was used. The TSB on my sheet is 2027731/2 with the details "I then followed TSB 2027731/2 and reflashed the ecm and replaced the breather and the front crank seal"
Last week I bought a CPO '09 A4 2.0T with 28.5k miles. The oil level indicator was about in the middle. Since then, I've probably drove about 500 miles. The oil indicator is less than a third of the total level. Is this normal? Should I be concerned about this oil consumption? The service indicator says the next oil change is in 4,100 miles. I have other warranty work scheduled for Monday. Should I have them look at this and perform an oil consumption test?

So I brought the car back in and it failed the 2nd test. They replaced the piston rings in 2 days (gave me a nice 2012 loaner) and everything seems good so far. Honestly I didn't think I was using that much oil to begin with :)
Anything else I should look out for after the piston replacement?
I took delivery on 2/17/2012. At 3800 miles, no change in MMI display for oil level. 90% highway driving. Don't have a dipstick yet, so I can't verify. Hopefully, Audi has this problem licked on the newer models.

I've been following the B8 oil consumption threads religiously. Finally have something to contribute for my first post.
I barely passed part 2 of the consumption test, and the dealer was nice enough to replace my pistons and rings anyway. It's been close to 3000 miles since, and the display is still showing full. I'm not 100% sure, but the car drives better, too. Maybe that's due to the deposits getting cleaned out. Add me to the list of people with good results from having the pistons replaced.

I do hope so. To the extent Audi knew of the fix(es) but failed to implement on newer model engines would not make any sense.

To update from my earlier post, on my 2012, I was at 5,400miles before there was a drop in MMI reading (one unit down). Things are still fine post 5K service which was actually done at 5,700miles. Current mileage: 6700mi.
I've owned my 2011 A4 car for about 1.3 years and I've put a little over 18k miles. like clockwork, I have to add 1 quart of oil every 3k miles. I'm assuming that is normal based on what I'm reading here. Thoughts?

In the manual it talks about oil consumption being normal due to the turbo. And that it is hard to determine exactly the normal rate because of climate, driving style , and each engine.
this is going to suck if they re-flash my ECU because the closest stasis dealer that i trust is 150miles away and to apply the stasis flash they have to take the ecu off the car and send it back to stasis. Car out for 1+ weeks for local dealer then 1 + weeks for stasis . This is going to suck big time.

I'll contribute my 2 cents. My A5 was consuming some oil between changes. My first thought was to switch out the GARBAGE Castrol Syntec that Audi insists on putting in our cars! I asked my dealer if they would put something other than Syntec and see if this affected the oil consumption. The dealership agreed and used Motul on my last oil change. My car hasn't used a drop since I switched to Motul. Turns out they have done this with five other customers Audi's (as a test) and wouldn't you know it they all stopped consuming oil. The Service Manager has repeatedly told this to Audi NA and they don't seem to care. Going from my experience in the past (friends that have used Syntec in their Domestic and German cars) is that they all experienced oil consumption when using Garbage Syntec. As soon as they switched to a reputable oil such as Mobil 1, Motul, Lubro Moly, etc. oil consumption ceased. I feel this is more than a coincidence, but that's just my opinion.

2012 model here and very little oil consumption as well. I have 8,000 on the car right now. Last oil change was 3,000 miles ago and the MMI went down only 25%. I am not going to top the car off at all until the 15,000 change to see if this issue shows up. But, if the light comes on like 6,000 miles after my last oil change, who cares?
I have an SUV with the 5.3 Liter GM V8. It has 105,000 miles on it. I was doing dino oil changes and 15,000 miles ago it started burning through a quart every 1,500 miles. I changed to mobil 1 10w-30 versus the 5w-30 it calls for and it is on track to burn one quart every 3,000 miles which honestly is fine with me for an engine with 105,000 miles on it.
A certain level of oil consumption is going to happen on every car, it is just a matter of "how much."
Here's the latest update and very weird:
Keep in mind I monitor the oil level consistently. At 4400 miles my oil level was slightly less than 1/8 on the oil gauge and was like this for a couple of hundred miles. All of a sudden it jumps up to 1/4. I was like, what's going on. Since the oil level went up, I checked it multiple times waiting to for it go down. After almost 75 miles no change. I didn't want to wait any longer so I ended up doing an oil change.
Yes very weird but oil consumption is much better. I'll post an update if any reading change with the new oil. Btw I changed to Rotella T6 5w-40. I use this oil on all my cars and motorcycle as well. It seem like the engine noise went down after switching oils.
Oh I like to mention I got a letter saying my CPO warranty is now covered to 125K or 3 years... YAY. Basically they added 25k and 1 year additional to the CPO coverage.

My '09 is sucking about 1 liter of oil per 1000km roughly. Going in tuesday for the TSB. Also to my surprise, the Castrol Syntec is way cheaper at my dealer... Go figure.

Thanks on the heads up on this. Although my oil consumption has much improved I'm hoping the Rotella will have less oil consumption than it does now. I don't have to keep on monitoring the oil levels in between the oil intervals which I do every 5k. If not I'm going to try Motul. The only problem is I don't know any parts store that carries Motul. I can get Rotella at my local Walmart.
