Possible chemical exposure to the mount caused the poly to become brittle and breakdown.
That's what's been determined by those guys..

Any benefit to getting the stage 1 TSI Dogbone insert without replacing the rest of the mounts? Also, I can not seem to find the stage 1 on your site. Stage two shows in the Audi section and there is a "You may also like" at the bottom that shows the stage 1 and links to the homepage.

It's definitely the most cost effective as far as the mount upgrades that we offer. In replacing the torque arm insert alone you'll notice a difference in throttle response feel and shifting will feel more crisp and defined, especially on a manual transmission car.

Our Stabila RSBs include black, graphite impregnated polyurethane bushings which are designed to reduce the tendency for those bushings to bind and squeak.
Two of our Mk5 shop cars have our RSB and have driven thousands of miles without any bushing grease and neither car has had any issues with squeaking or binding.

You could purchase a pre-assembled transmission mount, but you could also just as easily install the insert into your stock trans mount housing.
A cordless drill will take care of the rivets just fine. They're very soft metal and require minimal effort to remove.

For best overall performance you would want to replace both mounts and add a torque arm insert.
However, it may no means is required to have both. Doing a trans mount now and engine later is totally fine.

Stealth would be no better then buying new stock bushings.
Stage 1 is the best blend of comfort and performance.
