This is my boss' car that I am building for him. Its been ongoing for awhile now, so updates hopefully go a tad faster then they have been the last 9 months. I started ordering parts for this car back in Sept/Oct of 2009 and had almost everything ordered by the end of October. I went through a vender on this forum that I am not happy with, the rest of the parts I'll say who I got them from.
The car came in with APR stage 3+ on it, APR front mount, Snow water/meth single nozzle system, APR Hi Flo cat, APR exhaust. It dynoed 259/258 on APR 93 tune and it looked like this:
I don't have a ton of the tear down pictures as I didnt take a ton, but the car has been sitting with not much more then the motor out of it for the last 9 months. (Money got tight on his end and its been sitting). But here are the list of parts ordered and bought:
06b block brand new, bored to 82.5mm (waited 3.5 almost 4 months to be shipped out)
OEM TDI crank (waited 3.5 almost 4 months to be shipped out)
Scat rods
Supertech Pistons
Rod bearings
Main bearings
Full Race manifold t3 flange, v band wastegate
Tial 38mm v band wastegate
Tial Q 50mm BOV (still waiting on the right type of adapter)
ER Comp intercooler with ps cooler, all polished (his request)
Piper Cross filter - Bought from Piper Cross
034 V Band Downpipe for the b6 for the full race manifold (I have to cut it apart and add a Flex Joint)
034 Wastegate dump setup (I probably wont use this, b/c of the flex look. I will buy a flex joint and bend some tubing)
630cc injectors (when the motor build was going a different direction, getting 830's before it goes together) - Bought from my buddy Dave
AEB head and intake manifold - Came from my 1.8t
Oil feed/return lines - Mike at Ringer Racing
Coolant feed/return lines - Mike at Ringer Racing
Electric cut out - I am not sure where he got this at, but its the QAI one.
Clutch Masters FX400 Clutch kit - Mike at Ringer Racing
Meastro ME7 - Pete at IE
All ARP bolts (head, rod, tb gear bolt)
Things left to buy:
All the head stuff and a set of purple grind cams
HTA 3076
Exhaust components
Nickle and dime shit like gaskets
034 motor mounts, stern trans mounts, stern diff mounts
Dowel kit from Pete at IE
Will probably build an intake manifold and use a bigger TB but I dont see it gaining anything before the returnless maxes out. Once its maxed, we will turn the boost down and he will daily the car.. He's looking at 425-450 on pump and he is happy. It could of been done in a lot different ways, yes.. But this started off as a full converting to return fueling, HTA35r, 500+ mark on water/meth.
I am sure there is more stuff needed. That is a quick list of stuff bought and stuff needed. There isnt a ton left, but its getting there.
Standard no motor looking picture
Pile of parts that has been sitting for awhile
Got bored and had nothing else to do since the car was sitting and mocked up the full race on the motor that was in the car
Progress is starting again soon. I go Tuesday to get the snout of the crank notched for sure, machined down if need be to fit the stock TB gear, since I never got the TB gear I was suppose to with the crank (). After that the bottom end will be assembled and taken back to the machine shop to be balanced.

Reason: changed title to include new turbo
what changed? I havent kept up with anything going on parts wise with this because there was no restart time in sight, till the owner and I got to talking this past week.

Dropped the crank off at the machine shop today to get the key-way machined into it so the stock TB gear will work. I should have it back Thursday he said. After that it will get assembled and balanced.
Dropped the rest of the rotating assembly off for balancing. Ordered dowel pin kit from Pete so the timing belt gear wont go anywhere. Now I need to find some grade 12 8mm, 1.25 pitch, 20mm long allen bolts for the balancer pulley. I have everything I need to assemble the motor, minus a head gasket. That will happen when it comes back from the machine shop.
Ripped the washer bottle out since he doesnt use it and his washers in the front bumper are shaved. (he doesnt use wipers either, they are usually gone and little black nubs over the arms.. actually blends very well) Also dropped the APR Stealth exhaust (which is also forsale btw)
Not much but at least it shows something being done.. which is good since it sat for so long untouched.
Edit: See there was a Snow water/meth single nozzle system on there b4

Going to be putting it back in, with a dual nozzle kit from USRT, including their throttle body plate... attached to a 24v throttle body (or s4, whatever I find first)
Are you using an ER Comp for this setup? How much HP do you think it is good for? I am running it now, and unsure if I want to keep it if/when I have a bigger setup...
When I first got it. I was seeing advertisements of 600 or 800, i forget which, but it was big enough to support the car. The more and more i've looked around lately, I cant find any number claims. I know I seen them in Sept when it was ordered, b/c the owner of the car is who actually linked me to them.
but yes, we are using the ER Comp setup with the PS cooler.
I think it will be fine and when the car first comes out, i'd say 450 on pump.. Once the built head is on and the tune is played with, i hope more.
And i must also say, we changed the turbo from the HTA3076 to a PTE 5857.
"With it's size and ability to support over 600hp, it is the "last intercooler you will ever buy", no matter what size turbo you decide to run in the future."

You will know the ER Comp core does not work anymore when your IATs are no longer stable.

I know. I just figured i'd ask. You've had the ER comp. before haven't you? Why did you switch when you built your car, IATs too high before the build?
Yeah we will have to see. I'll add more meth somewhere if I need.. lol b/c i highly doubt the such high standard of vender I used for it, wouldnt take it back. even though its still sitting in the box.

Nope. Never had the ER Comp on my personal car. I used to have the ASP FMIC and it worked well with my 2871 but I knew it was too small for my 30R so I went with a new core. My current core is comparable to the ER Comp but made by Bell Intercoolers. In 100F ambient and 28psi of boost the IATs don't climb more than a few degrees (F). I'd say my core works well.

Hmm, maybe that's what I was remembering. It being similar in shape to the ER. Hmm, so the ER Comp. may work for my goals, especially if they advertise 600hp core...
The only reason i am asking is because I want a core that fits behind my Oetty with little to no trimming required. Spent too much on it to fudge it all up...
Just so everyone knows... Black and I (he did most of the work) pulled a engine last night so I could see if the block was useable. Stand up guy for sure!

Bought thrust washers and gaskets from Pete at IE and Stern mounts from Mike HOOOOOOOOOOOOOD. Also picked up a S4 throttle body from a board member on here for 135 shipped. I need to go over my list of shit to buy and see what else i need to keep this stage moving along.
Once everything is back from balancing (a week or so out I got told today), i will take pretty pics of the rifle drilled rods, the notched pistons and the crank in all of its glory.. lol
Now its off to start reviewing some cam specs. We were going to use Bobq's purples when using the 3076 because they stop making power when the 3076 does. Now that we stepped it up, its time to start researching for the needs.
But when its done, mid October, we will be at Cecil, so Clint, come out and say hi.

I text'ed (text?) you earlier about the snail. It was a positive step in identifying everything.
I am probably going to buy another engine stand this weekend while you're busy and get it mounted for when you come back out and we go tear it down to see whats usable and what isnt, what needs done, etc.. Maybe i will replace the shop lights by then as well, its getting really hard to see when the lights are 18ft above us.
We def had fun pulling that motor.. Damn the tranny cooler lines. :shakes head:
Oh and BTW, next time you get on the turnpike, always go WEST.. East makes you go 45 mins out of your way... hahaha
They were going to send a tech sheet but they forgot. I'm going to call them tomorrow... again.
