I got the Precision 5557 installed...
So the new precision 5557 is on. 034 changed the catch can setup a bit to make room for the new intake setup. They also had to shorten the MAF housing a bit to make room for the new filter. The HKS shallow filter was causing the intake hose to collapse under boost so we went with a larger AEM filter. The car is making power to 7500rpm and rev limited around 7800. It put down around 330whp peak, i am waiting for the dyno sheets from christian. This is on 91 octane.
The spool up is around 200rpm later then the 2871r but i am making somewhere around 50 more WHP with similar boost levels. They recalibrated the dyno so the numbers i posted in the past were a little high. I did do some friendly pulls with my buddies b8 s4 (stock), and i had him.
I will post the dyno sheets once i get them.

Nice. But that turbo is capable of so much more (should be able to put down 400whp on 93 octane and modest boost). CA emission laws suck with the 91 octane. How much boost were you running to hit 330whp? Any dyno sheet?

What rpm do you hit your full boost at in 3rd gear and what boost is it? Also I assume the "b" you have listed after 5557 in your sig is for ball bearing and not the journal bearing? And the last question, .63 a/r?

034 built the motor, spec'd the turbo, and tuned it. If we were able to get 400whp we would have :-) 91 octane is the limiting factor here. But even using 93, i highly doubt 400whp. Maybe with 100 octane, but doubtful. They said this is one of the highest hp a4's they have seen on 91 octane. I plan to do a 100 octane tune, so we will see what we get there. I need to upgrade my intercooler as well, the racetec isnt cutting it anymore.
Also what type of dyno are you basing your statement that this turbo is capable of 400whp? There are stage three s4's that go on 034's dyno and dont get 330. Hell, with their race car running 110 octane, 2.2L, and a 5857, they are getting 473whp. Christian is going to send over my dyno sheets next week.
Its running around 23psi. I need to get the dyno sheets to really see whats going on, my gauge (autometer) is off a couple psi.

Yes, this is the ball bearing unit. Without the dyno sheets its hard to tell when i hit full boost since it comes up so fast, i asked for an overlay of the GT2871R compared to the 5557. I dont have a sheet from the GT2871r and 2.0L since it was so short lived once they started tuning it. I am hitting full boost about 200rpm's later then my GT2871R on the same bottom end per Christian at 034. Javad spec'd the turbo and i didnt see him in the shop friday when i picked it up, i assume its a .63.
Once i have some sheets, hopefully monday, i will post them up.

When you can, can you run it in 3rd gear from say 3500rpm and tell me when you hit full boost maybe video tape it so you can pause the video and get a close idea if you can't see it with your eyes? You say 200rpm later than the last turbo, well what was it at roughly, 4200, 4600? I have a 5857 journal bearing .63 a/r and when I talked to Precision several months ago they said the 5557 would spool the same since they use the same turbine wheel (65mm inducer 57mm exducer) and showed me a dyno graph supposibly of the two being compared on an Evo. I haven't seen hard evidence anywhere of the 5557 to truely see if they do spool the same or not. I will say I agree with the guy saying that turbo can make 400whp. It has a 55mm inducer 75mm exducer compressor wheel and a big ass turbine wheel (65,57). A GT30r has a 57mm inducer 76mm exducer which is not to much different but also has a much smaller turbine wheel and they make 400 on pump. 91 could be limiting you a bit but I believe you could be running more boost, people run 23psi on little eliminator turbos on 91 octane, I would have the boost a touch higher.

I am basing my numbers from 034 rating that turbo at 535chp. If that's the case, then 22% drivetrain loss leaves you at 417whp. I am guessing they have the heartbreaker Mustang? And I already know the limiting factor of your street legal gasoline.

034 has a dynomite dyno. The rating of the turbo would be at much higher boost though, not at only 23psi. 30psi could be ran on that turbo, maybe not on 91 octane though.

A simple 93 tune with octane booster will grant him more whp. He would just need to be sure to use it on every refill. If the OP would get a 91/93 octane tune, he coule also always have the option of switching.

They just re-calibrated their dyno and its reading much lower then the past. I know you already know this but their dyno is a bit of a heart breaker. I am sure i could put down closer to 400 on a dynojet. I hate arguing dyno numbers since they are all soooo different.
They initially wanted me to put the 5857 on it. I mentioned that i would much rather have powerband over a drag or dyno queen, but i left the turbo decision up to them. After doing the calculations they chose the 5557.
I will see about getting a video. I need a friend to hold the camera.

I just want you to put it in 3rd start at 3500 and floor it and let off at 5000rpm. Just use your cell phone or something. Very simple, just get the boost gauge and tach in the video. Or don't even bother videoing, just do the above and tell me within 100-200rpm where it hit full boost of 23psi. Like I mentioned, I have journal bearing so I am loosing out on 2-300rpm but I hit 22psi at 4600rpm in 3rd.

Bingo, 91 octane is the killer. I will get a 100 octane tune to here shortly. I just want to shakedown everything first. I can get 100 octane at the pump out here but dont care to pay that much for gas everyday. This is a daily driver.

Here are the sheets:
It looks we are making boost about the same place, 4600rpm. I have some constraints with my intake and intercooler setup, my intercooler and piping is too small. We are also thinking about trying out an electronic controller versus the Halman pro to address the boost fall off. I have had boost fall off problems for the last couple turbo's i have tried. The dashed line is a 2871r with the same motor. More to come.

I have a Halman also, boost holds good. I had a problem with my 30r tapering boost before my 5857. Both are .63 a/r, guess the smaller turbine of the 30r was choking up with my setup and making boost fall to 26psi no matter if I turned it all the way to 33psi.
Interesting the ball bearing didn't do any better than my journal and the same spool between the two is exactly what I suspected.

I used a Haltech boost solenoid before the Halman and it held boost to redline. I will give an electronic a try.

So in real world situations its looking like the boost comes on much earlier:
A little before 4000rpm. Having some real airflow must help.

Thanks Clint. There is more in it. I need to change my intercooler piping and get rid of the little Racetec core, i am probably going to go with the 550hp core 034 carries and get some new piping fabbed up. I think the 2in piping and inlets its choking it.

Ok, mine is terrible right now which I am going to assume is because it is so hot out It is 90* and "feels like" 97.
I wasn't seeing ~22psi until pretty much 5000rpm in 3rd and 4600rpm in 4th. I saw 4psi at 3800rpm in 4th. I did this many times when it was more around the 70s (which is when I did logs showing boost using the map sensor as well as videos) and I was getting 22psi at 4500-4600 everytime in 3rd but it looks like I am almost 400rpm later right now in 3rd.
EDIT: Wholey shit, it is only 59* right now in San Francisco wtf! Why is Florida so damn hot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is obviously playing a big role in this right now, so these aren't completely valid.
DOUBLE EDIT: MY METH NOZZLE FELL OUT!!! Just found out today and that was the cause of my extra 400rpm of spool. Nice 1/4" hole letting boost out! Back to 4600rpm in 3rd now and it was 90*

Heh, no worries.
Its cool here in the mornings. It really doesnt get much hotter then 80-85 here. I was going down hill too, which really isnt much load to build boost. Wait till it cools off in florida i guess before we can compare.
