After seeing siena do the v8 swap last year, I decided that I wanted to do one too.
So, first I acquired the following(shown here partially disassembled for timing belt replacement):
Then, I needed a car for the swap, so I picked this up:
Last night, we accomplished the following:
Will hopefully be acquiring the 034 flywheel insert and a southbend clutch/pp, along with VEMS, wiring harness, and fuel rails from EFI Express in the near future.
Exterior:
S4 Front Bumper
S4 Rear Bumper
S4 Skirts
18" Wheels of some sort(the 17" avus wheels are FS if anybody wants em)
Suspension/Drivetrain:
01E swap
S4 uprights in front
Stern motor and trans mounts (custom brackets for the motor mounts)
DTS bar
JHM 6pot brake kit
Hotchkis swaybar kit
Rear diff mounts
Coilovers(not sure which ones)
Engine:
2 1/4" off each side going into 2 1/2", back to a rear mounted HX35
Double stacked headgaskets
Hopefully I won't need to build the motor any more than that. But we'll see what happens. My goal is 400whp.
Rear mount as in remote mount HX35 at the rear of the engine i assume? this thing is going to be sick, for a second I thought you were talking remote mount at the rear of the exhaust.. i may be going crazy
the injectors i want to use dont fit in the intake manifold. the outer diameter of the stock injectors is about the size of a quarter(much bigger than standard sized injectors), vs the injectors i want to use which are the standard size that most other cars use(about the size of a dime?)
does somebody make adapters so you can use standard injectors for an intake manifold like this? i've done some searching, but havnt come up with anything
So your doing a rear mount on a 4.2? I saw someone on EA that was going to try to do a rear mounted tt set up with 2 smaller turbos for some good spool times but ended up scrapping the idea. Hopefully you can pull it off man! Would love to see how this turns out. And for any questions regarding the 4.2, I recommend you check euro addiciton . net (no spaces). They have a really big 4.2 community over there if nothing else ** don't ban me bro!
yeah, plan is to do a single rear mounted turbo. but, that wont happen till next spring.
i ordered a timing belt kit from blauparts, which will be here tomorrow. will be sure to get pics of that job, which I hope to do saturday. then we'll bolt it up to the trans and drop all of that in, and start fabbing up brackets for my stern pro mounts.
I had planned a very similar setup but with a mid mounted turbo. Depending on the turbo housing's size it may fit where the mid muffler normally sits which would also balance out the weight distribution a bit.
Best of luck on your project!

We cannot achieve the future by being timid. It requires aggressive imagination.
question: why are you going with a 6 speed with a rear mount turbo? i think a 01A would be better because of the taller gears.
what's going on with tuning?
very nice build in a black avant. makes me think of a black thoroughbred haha. it's been weeks, how about some updates?
Present: 2010 Audi A4 2.0TQ Tip. Mods: APR chip, clear bra side mirrors and headlights, krautoparts.com interior/lic plate LEDs, and VAG COM mods
Past: 2001 Audi A4 2.8QM. Mods: H&R race springs, CC mod, tinted tails, RS4 mirrors, ST chip, and VAG COM mods. Traded in
2002 Honda Civic EX auto. Totaled
we'll see how i like the 5spd. as far as tuning, there is a local shop that has done some pretty ridiculous cars that i am going to have tune it. they have a lot of experience with megatune.
i hope to have some updates this week. i've been traveling for work for the past 3 weeks, just got back home. i've got the timing belt kit, and am currently working on doing that. should be ordering the clutch, flywheel insert, and some other misc parts, and i already have the stern motor mounts, so i should be able to start making motor mount brackets soon.
i got the heads off finally (been busy with work etc, somebody's gotta pay for all this shit lol). both head gaskets were blown (leaking oil), so i'm glad i decided to do the headgaskets with the motor outside the car
heads are going to a shop to get decked if necessary, and then get the valve seals replaced.
oh, it goes. i've been busy with work lately and havent had much time to work on this :(
got my custom fuel rails and harness/ecu from efiexpress a couple weeks ago. engine is basically ready to go back together, will be putting the lower end back together tomorrow night(nothing exciting, just new oil pan/oil pump cover gaskets, main seals, etc). clutch from clutchnet, flywheel insert from 034 arrived a while back as well. i'm working on the motor mount designs as well, will be waterjetted out and tig welded.
no pics because i was lazy, but i got the oil pump cover/pulley back on, water pump and thermostat, and did some cleaning of the block. going to harbor freight tomorrow to get a seal puller to remove the 4" diameter rear main seal, and then i can put the oil pans back on.
heads are gonna go the shop on monday to get cleaned and decked if necessary, and new valve seals installed.
