Nicely done cs, thanks for that. Down to APR and AWE for me now since I might be the only weirdo here that doesn't like the sound of a big-block V8. That, along with Voltron's vids confirms that the AWE definitely sounds the most..... Ferrari-like? Not even sure how to describe that howl, other than 'mean'.
I'm glad you liked the vids fellas! I have one from the side of my car coming/going but it isn't that good. I'll need to reshoot that one as well as get some cockpit vids so you can hear if there's drone at low rpm's.
Great video csauer52, the AWE resonated system is definitely the best sounding exhaust for the B8 3.0T. Thanks for posting
I agree. The milltek sounds the most like the B6/7 though. I am interested to hear an official GMG clip on an S4 as well as the system that Danny @ FI has come up with. I'm glad my car wont be here for 8 wks.
Thanks csauer52. Can you let us know about the sound level inside the cabin? Was the last video shot with the windows down? The exhaust sounds great when it is extended but I am a bit worry about it being too loud for everyday driving. Thanks again.

Yes, that vid was shot with windows down and sunroof open. To be honest, this exhaust is perfect for both aspects. Very quiet and pretty much unnoticeable when driving under everyday conditions, but growls like a monster when you open it up and really get on the accelerator. AWE hit the nail perfectly on the head with this system.
Here's a vid from the cockpit with windows up and sunroof closed. Once again, please ignore the shakiness, this was my 11 year old filming. I need to find a better way... :)

Can't stop listening to that tunnel vid!
IMO, it sounds very similar to a VW VR6 with and exhaust, or even a 'done' audi quattro S2.
AWE exhaust and high-flow catalytic converters from 034 Motorsport!!
I'd love to hear that and feel all that power
Isn't AWE working on the section where the cats are? Do we call them downpipes anymore? I don't even know what to call them now...LOL. The section between the exhaust manifold and the downpipes.
By the time I am ready to buy an exhaust, they will probably have the free flow cats available. Then I can just get the entire exhaust all at once.

Tough decision for me now. AWE sounds great and they are close enough that it would be an overnight trip up the road to get it installed at their place. Milltek sounds nice and I have their full system on my B6-S4. Thanks for the vids csauer, and for bringing this thread back on track. The acceleration accompanied by the launch down the parking lot in that second vid makes me want to just buy the next B8 S4 I see regardless of color or options!

To me it seems they are half a downpipe currently and the other half has the cats. Maybe cat pipes?

The shake isn't too bad--he just follows the Paul Greengrass school of filmmaking.
The system sounds incredible with the resonanted pipes--I think it's sold me on AWE. But I'd still really like to find somebody local so I can check it out in person.
I'm hoping that AWE will make a version of the S4 exhaust for the S5 Sportback, as that's what I've got on order from the Audi dealership in my country. It'll only deliver in Novemeber, so I have some time. Meanwhile, I'm currently in contact with Mike Romano (Sales Mgr) on this project, and it would be nice if your products could reach beyond US shores for RoW applications like the new S5 Sportback. I'm quite determined to get an AWE system (resonated downspipes and exhaust boxes) on my RoW S5 Sportback, so please see if you can do anything to help us on this.
Based on dimensions, the S4 and the S5 Sportback have very similar wheelbase and rear bumper overhang, so there might be a chance that the S4 exhaust may fit on the S5 Sportback. I guess a quick check on ETKA could confirm any parts cross-share between both models, but I don't have access to ETKA.
Anyway, just to let you know that you have supporters over here in South East Asia.

I will go on record one more time to state that we highly recommend using our resonated downpipes on the S-tronic cars. The interior sound will be a tad loud without using them.
The S-tronic S4 exhaust project was a tough nut to crack!
Strangely, while it's not exactly like a V8 sound, but that howl, scream, or urgency in the exhaust tone really reminds me of my Ferrari 348 with Tubi exhaust. Not so much in the low rpm's or the revving at idle, but during the higher rpm acceleration, especially in the tunnel. Like you said, can't really describe it. There's also a bit of a quivering, like on the latest Maserati's with aftermarket exhaust.
I want one!! (but I've a S5 Sportback :( , not an S4 )

Thanks for the enthusiasm for our products! We get a TON of inquires for our exhausts in South East Asia. This is a very important market for us.
We are already deep into researching compatibility for the Sportback, so please keep in touch.
It's always preferable to hear exhausts in person but to have a readily available real world recording of each choice with the same microphone is an incredible resource and something that I have never seen anyone be able to put together before, thanks!
First, thank you for taking the time for showing the video. I am debating on getting either the APR or Milltek. What made you choose APR over Milltek?
I would like an exhaust with a nice sound- no drone- but also enjoy the daily driving with two kids and my wife. Milltek certainly is high on decibals at 114 but it sounds really nice. APR, on the other hand- is also a great sounding exhaust.
I would appreciate any feedback you can provide or anyone else from their experience.
Is the AWE on the first page that was added the exhaust with stock downpipes, resonated, or non resonated.
Resonated, Brandon has a DSG and wanted no little or drone - going stock or non-res on most any of these is not recommended for DSG owners to be honest due to the nature of the DSG holding RPM's in the high drone range at normal highway cruising speeds.
Like a surgeon with a scalpel, my S4 is a precision instrument, with which I carve and dissect my way through traffic.

Thanks, I will be getting a 6MT, and was planning on AWE with stock downpipes, but I appreciate all the testing, awesome job!
Perfect bump for this.; I am actually conisdering trying to get a custom exhaust made at larger diameter, ala 2.5", I think my miltek is somewhere in the 2.35" range. i think with 2.5 our car may do better. Any exhaust gurus (real ones) know what pros and cons can be?
