I'm still waiting for my vinyl tape to wrap the chrome surround in matte black before I install the grill.

I order the stuff last Thursday, has first class shipping and apparently it just left. I'm a little disappointed

Maybe it's just the lighting, but I was expecting the rings to be darker (DARK grey, not quite black) when you said "gunmetal". Either way, great job with the DIY!

Thanks. This is the best color they had at Home Depot, trust me I was thinking darker too. But they seem to be a good shade of gray as drying.

After doing this though, I think I prefer the non chrome rings. I want to go with black if this does not do it for me.

Where you need to go is a hobby store for all the different shades of spray paint available.

Especially ones that sell RC cars and plastic models.

Better quality it seems as well.

Thanks for the heads up. If this doesn't go I may just plastidip the rings though. I think the gray in general will give me enough to decide if a different shade of gray would still look bad or not.

Comparison in color.

I will take picture of the grill mounted with black surround with the chrome and the gray, if the gray doesn't look good, then It will be all black or chrome. (rings)

The left half almost looks black with the lighting. It might be alright the color the rings are. Will have to wait till the weekend before it's on the car though

I have had such a hard time with the grill and surround. I am no longer going to vinyl the surround I am simply going to spray paint it. It is loose and I have a spare. So I will just paint it black.

I don't know whether to go with a matte finish or gloss.

The rings I spray painted came out nice a smooth and perfect, and the vinyl will have seems and will not be permanent.

I think I goofed up my rear rings. My first attempt at painting them was with old black spray paint, which was absolutely garbage and I had to sand them down again.

The second attempt was with the gray that I used on the front. There were inconsistencies in the sanding I did and that coat didn't look horrible but it certainly wasn't up to par.

I am on to satin black painting them, but don't think it will be completely even. I might have to buy some new ones from ebay, I want to go with black though.

I just sprayed the grill surround, it looks awesome. I sanded it first, yesterday, and the paint looks super smooth, so I think I did a good job.

Pictures of it on the glossy grill later once dried. Then tomorrow pictures of it on the car entirely.

Neither the surround nor rings and clipped in. The ring I won't until the grill is on the car due to testing out the gray to the chrome. The surround isn't 100% dry.

Ummm haha Idk some of the better quality stuff at my local Home Depot, I'll get back to you on that.

I showed my dad and what he liked most was the gray rings, they definitely catch light weird in the flash. I might be spraying my stock plate filler satin soon... well see how that looks soon.

I also want to spray the fog light covers now too, they don't match the grill or the satin black

I used some rustoleum paint for the surround and rings. I put the quattro tag along with the chrome rings back on. I like it a lot more.

Just ordered the Lamin-x film for the headlights/fogs. I got tint/gunsmoke like the picture on the first page of rabbits car

I want my car to look pretty similar. With the black grill and GM wheels with headlight film. I don't know about the mirrors though.

BTW - good call going back to chrome on the front rings. Much much better. It got me thinking about whether or not there is some kind of clear spray that would effectively tint the chrome. You could get a smoked chrome look. Might work well... just a thought.

No I'm not really into the roof vinyl, I think it makes the car lose some dimension to it that it would otherwise have

No I'm not really into the roof vinyl, I think it makes the car lose some dimension to it that it would otherwise have
