ok so i have a new set of vmr v710's for my s4 (19x8.5 +35). I want a little bit of stretch if possible but I want to keep it safe as we do have a decent amount of potholes around here. these were the sizes I was thinking of (most stretch to least):
    225/40/19
    235/35/19
    245/35/19

do you think the 225 is unsafe to run in terms of destroying my rims or?.... thanks in advance and also I did search but i couldnt seem to find the answer to my question ;/

225 is way too narrow for an 8.5" wheels. You need to be running at least a 235, with 245 or 255 being preferable.

    255/35R19 is stock RS4 size.

well i figured the extra sidewall height on the 225/40's would give me a nice stretch with similar durability to a 235/35. a buddy of mine will be running 225/40/18 on an 18x9.5 wheel. and ive seen lots do that. now how about for potholes, i ran 235/35/19 on my a6 with 8" wide wheels and those bent all day long lol. now would i have the same problem on these 8.5's you think.... school me, im ready haha

ok so perhaps i sould revise my question now given the knowledge you all have stated.... with 235/35/19 on my 8.5's should i be ****ting my pants about a bent wheel or 3 lol

I think, the more narrow the tire (compared to stock/recommended size) the more risk of bending a rim...

I'm running a 225-35-19 on a 9'' wheels with a little stretch. I haven't damaged my rims but depending on road conditions where you drive and live. 225-40 should be fine with a 8.5'' wheel.

I'm running 235's on 19x9's and have a slight stretch. You won't have any I would guess on an 8.5" rim.

As for the ride and stuff, they will all be within millimeters of each other, you won't notice a difference. It may just be easier to curb your rims.

with 235's on my vmr's ive hit some pretty mean potholes and nothing, one of my room mates has some rotiform blq's on 225's and i know he kills those things and never has had a problem so i think overall with any of those two options youll be fine

I am running 245/35/19 and I rub almost all the time in the rear. Front you need to remove the top screw on top of the wheel well then it does not rub anymore.
