See that is one thing I didn't know. So I would guess that if I were to renew my policy that my rates would likely go up. But hey, now I know.
I guess my point being that it can be VERY expensive to replace all the parts needed. And the nice thing about going through insurance is they fix every little thing, for instance I got all new belly pans whereas if I were repairing myself I wouldn't have done that.
To be clear, I am not advocating insurance fraud. I am just saying that if the debris was moving.. if there is even a CHANCE that it was moving, then you have to communicate that it was UNDOUBTEDLY moving and you did your best to avoid it, and there was just no way to get around it.
Because they will poke and prod and hint and question and the very moment they "catch" you saying that it stopped moving for only an instant they say "okthankyouverymuchthatwillbea1000dollardeductible goodbye" and click. And that's the end of it, you're hosed and they have recorded it as an at-fault accident.
So if it WAS moving (wink wink nudge nudge) then be CLEAR with the insurance folks that it was bouncing all over the roadway and you tried to avoid it but it bounced right into your path.
if it were me and I could say that the debris was moving and thus I was not at fault, I'd be thinking that a 500.00 deductible sounds a heck of a lot better than repairing it myself. Hell I'd pay the 500 bucks just to not have to get under the thing and put the blood and sweat into the repair.
