    1.8l + PTE5857 = 425awhp?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
*Mods/Admins can this be moved to the Project/Builds section please?*

So there I was, running a GT71R with terrible IAT issues. So what did I do? Pull my engine and do a PTE 5857 build. It was the only logical choice that I had.

I'm bored at work, so I figured that I would start my build thread.

I have some really crappy pics that I took with my crappy cell phone (I know, double fail) and so I only have terrible pics to show you as of now. I'll take better ones later.

As far as the build goes, I want to keep it pretty basic.

    -Engine
    - IE rods w/ stock pistons new rings and rod bearings
    - A refreshing hone for the block
    - Port and polish AMB head
    - AEB intake mani
    - Exhaust valves
    - Supertech valve springs w/ titanium retainers
    - Stock cams (as of right now)

    -Tuning/Fueling
    - Probably Unitronic or Maestro... I want to run 1000cc injectors, so whoever can give me tuning for it
    - 005 intank pump
    - stock fuel lines w/ "returnless" system

    -Cooling
    - Treadstone TR10 w/ custom 2.5" piping
    - Possibly W/M

    -Turbo Stuff
    - PTE HP5857SP (running like, 1 million PSI)
    - Hoping the Treadstone manifold will fit, otherwise idk
    - Tial wastegate
    - Hallman MBC

    -Exhaust
    - Custom 3" downpipe w/ wastegate routed into it
    - downpipe -> 24" cherry bomb 3" in/out to 2.5" Y to 2.5" out the back

I'm sure that I'm forgetting something....

    OH YEAH!!!

    -Clutch
    - Something big and ugly from CM. I'll need to talk to Greg@DTH. I was thinking something like the FX850

Thanks to Clay@CTS for the Turbo and Clint@RAI for the awesome deal on the bottom end parts!
-I'll be in touch with both of you sometime soon.

whoops, also forgot the add the pics.

Sounds like its gonna be a beast when finished, GL with it. I especially like that you're staying 1.8 and stock head/cams, I'm just wondering when someone is going to come up with a solution for our tranny problems. These cars obviously need stronger gears, especially BT/BAT cars.

Thanks! yeah, I pretty much just want to see what the 1.8 w/ stock cams is capable of. I'm hoping my trans will be fine because i rarely ever launch, and I'll probably only take it to the track a couple times.

That will be very useful information for the forum. When do you think the car will be back on the road?

Why limit yourself to Unitronic and maestro if custom tuning is also an option through Autospeed Performance? Especially if they will have a 1000cc injector tune for the 2002 ecu when I get my car back there (really soon).

The Unitronic custom tuning front is also slowing down considerably as they are investing efforts into newer chassis chip flashes and what-not.

Limit yourself to Maestro? I`d say custom tuning is limiting yourself, Maestro is not. Maestro you can tune yourself if you want, and tweak for various upgrades, custom tuning not so much.

And good luck on the build OP :)

Custom tune is the same thing as Maestro (fully optimized for that hardware configuration). I do not understand your argument.

Then you go back to the tuner and make an adjustment. It works well when you have the ability, and the drive is not that far (<4hrs).

Doug, I think until your car is done and puts down good numbers, people aren't going to look to ASP as much. Uni-tune is still in the works also, they are working hard on it.

That is one option, if you have that possibility and the drive is not too far like you say.. If not, the choice would be quite obvious.

I`m all for Maestro either way, then you have the choice if you want to do it yourself, or let the tuner do it.

I was merely throwing another option out on the table for Dan. Not saying "Yeah, my car does XX with blah-blah-blah tune so you should go that route."

Regardless of how my car performs, that has nothing to do with individuals calling ASP and inquiring about their capabilities. I am not the only one that is telling people to talk to Mark.

I would suggest pistons, but that's just me. The way I see it is, you're ripping apart the block already so why do a half ass job, run a slightly larger bore piston since you're honing the block this way all chances of a poor seal are eliminated. Also, why not AEB head considering its probably cheaper than porting and polishing the AMB and it would allow you to work on it and if something goes wrong you have another head as a spare. I know an AMB head can make lots of power and is underestimated, but I would just go the AEB route as the work of porting at least is already complete, or you can be uber baller and port it some more. I'm curious about the FMIC as I want to go the Treadstone route myself. Also, why are you running such humongous injectors?

For a manifold I suggest PSI concepts, the manifold is a bit pricey but IMHO that manifold is the best on the market and I have held it and experienced it and it is astonishing vs. ATP's.

Lol, I just changed everything lol.

I am so p[[issed that at the time when I was putting my engine together the engine dyno at unitron ic was not ready, but in the winter i might just rip everything out and have the baddest tune done on an engine dyno, i think everybody will make benefit of this

I'm doing all the work myself and I can port/polish the head. I already have an AEB manifold, so I'm definitely porting my head. The stock pistons will be just fine. I also have new rings and everything, so I'm not worried about it not holding compression. I would really like to run the PSi manifold, it is really nice, but the last time I checked it only came with a T25 flange, my turbo has a T3.

Not sure if it will fit your compressor housing since a 30R is getting tight.

Not sure if it will fit your compressor housing since a 30R is getting tight.

Guess I still owe you those measurements on the Treadstone, huh? I keep forgetting since I'm so focused on biking now-a-days.
you dirty dog you! how the hell have I been missing this?!?!?

I guess I need to slow down and read everything once in a while. Or stop trying to skim thru sites while I'm at work and actually take the time to do it at home, instead of ride my quad lol

Nice build. Treadstone makes stainless steel manifolds now. they look high quality. not sure if that turbo will clear the frame with one though.
