    Hey Jason,

Do you know if your kit will fit the 2012 B8 S4?

In the ECS tuning kit... there are 4 round silver clip looking things... What are those part #'s? They are not mentioned in the DIY...

They aren't mentioned because you don't need them. I have no idea what those are but I can tell you I had no such creatures in my install.

Apparently our photo guys goofed when they were shooting the photos of these. Those "clips" shouldn't even be there. They should be what's pictured below. The kits are correct just the photo is wrong.

Hey David, ordered a pair of 2009 S4 Folding mirrors off ebay (didn't know the year when it ordered them, just said B8). They finally arrived.. i ordered the other parts from ECS.. i'm hooking everything up tonight following your DIY (btw, great DIY)

As we discussed on a previous thread, since the inner door part # hasn't changed from 2008 & up... there was a chance these just might work... Good news is... they do... they align up perfectly...

here is my question.... The wiring on the mirror switch is slightly different... now i'm hoping the pins are different b/c of the extra feature (folding).. But just wanted to be sure... Here is the pin out of the 2012 & 2009 mirror on the 16 pin switch (I removed the switch from the housing so i could see the numbers & pins on both:

    2012 Mirror pinout:**************--2009 S4 folding Mirror pinout
    1 - empty-************************--1 - empty
    2 - black/grey-********************-2 - black/grey
    3 - black/blue-********************-3 - black/blue
    4 - grey/white-******************--4 - empty
    5 - brown/white-****************--5 - brown/white
    6 - black/green-******************-6 - black/green
    7 - white-************************--7 - white
    8 - red-**************************--8 - red
    9 - empty-************************-9 - blue
    10 - empty-**********************-10 - pink
    11 - yellow-**********************-11 - yellow
    12 - empty-**********************-12 - empty
    13 - blue/red-********************-13 - empty
    14 - white/yellow-**************--14 - empty
    15 - black-************************-15 - black
    16 - grey/yellow-****************--16 - empty

You think the difference in the pin out is b/c one is folding & the other is not.. or you think it's b/c one is a 2009 & the other is not? I haven't connected anything up yet.. to be honest nervous b/c i don't want to do any electrical damage (sorry for being so paranoid). I'm going to proceed with the passenger door now, getting everything ready to be connected... will check back the thread periodically... May start a new thread b/c i'm not sure how many people will read this question & go to the 5th page.. sorry for the repeat question.. just have my door panels off so hoping to get response within the next hour or so if possible...

I think your looking at it from the more difficult point.

2008-2011 use the same door module. Probably only software update after 2011.

2010 to current use the same the mirror.

Well if the module overlaps the mirror then the mirrors have to have the same wiring. A number of options will alter the wiring such as dimming, heated and folding.

Anyways just for the hell of it..

    1 - empty- Puddle Light
    2 - black/grey- Auto Dimming
    3 - black/blue- Ground for Mirror options
4 - grey/white- Potentiometer for horizontal adjustment (Memory??)
    5 - brown/white- Adjustment Motor
    6 - black/green- Auto Dimming
    7 - white- Adjustment Motor
    8 - red- Adjustment Motor
    9 - blue- Folding Motor
    10 - pink - Folding Motor
    11 - yellow- Turn Signal
    12 - empty
13 - blue/red- Potentiometer for Vertical adjustment (Memory??)
14 - white/yellow- Potentiometer for Vertical adjustment (Memory??)
    15 - black- Heated Mirror ( I show Red/Black)
16 - grey/yellow- Potentiometer for horizontal adjustment (Memory??)

Then if installed a 2 pin plug for Lane Assist.

So by the looks of it the mirrors may lack the memory functions but I don't know for sure that's what they are used for. Just makes sense.

    ^^^^^

Thanks for the reply david... I finished up with everything last night... Awesome DIY btw (was compelled enough to donate... hope others will do the same that finds your DIY's useful as i did)...

I didn't have any prior experience with VAGCOM but I was able to figure it out...

Some reviews of the 2009 S4 mirror vs. the 2012 A4 Mirror

The 2009 S4 mirror is noticeable bigger... Not in a bad way, it's just bigger
The 2009 Lane assist blinkers are probably 1/2 as bright as the 2012 lane assist blinker (i have it set to the full brightness in the MMI). That was a night, haven't driven the car in daylight yet. Wish they were as bright b/c i like this feature a lot & the brighter the bulb, the more it grabs my attention so can't say i'm happy with the loss of brightness.. (hopefully the euro blind spot mirrors will help with that...:o)..)

Wish there was more room for the mirror fold completely flat.. I saw the video's on Youtube so i knew it wasn't completely flat but it's a huge improvement to get the mirror fold as much as it does b/c some idiot has already ran into my mirror & stripped some of those bolt threads & it was loose before the guys truck cover hit & smashed my mirror..

Overall, very happy with the look of the S4 mirrors...very happy w/ the folding mirrors... Would rate this DIY as an easy install thanks to David's detailed instructions & photos... The plastic tools are must so you don't scratch your interior...
