Sorry for the new thread but I need an official thread on Audizine to link back to on my website.

I am providing the link to the page but it is not even close to being done. Right now it's just part numbers but I know some are awaiting just that.
The page will not be made live off of the main site until it's done so please keep this in mind. Not done but under way. I will provide updates and follow this thread going forward.

I know I should be doing the DIY and not playing but went for a drive and made some observations. First of all still DAMN COOL!!. I know the ROW guys that had this as an option are probably laughing at me :P

You can't engage the mirrors while moving. You can however unfold them while your moving if you folded them while your stopped. They fold when you lock the car and they are set to auto but don't unfold when you unlock. I'm hoping there is something in vag com for that but I understand why they don't until your in the car and start it. For those wondering on cost, expect 7-800 for the full conversion. You have to want it as it's not a cheap investment but still very cool. The strange thing is the folding mirrors are cheaper than the non folding. Go figure that one out... So if anyone has an accident and needs to replace mirrors remember, folding is cheaper.

Although I am not supported by ECS in any way they are a good source for those that want to get them from a reliable place without having to try and find an overseas source and pay the additional shipping charges. That and Chris over at ECS seems to be a really decent guy, I've had lots of emails back and forth with him over parts and inquiries and even though I have never ordered from them (yet) he always takes the time to get back to me.

So you replace the actual mirrors themselves are just the inner parts needed to make them fold or whole mirrors? Having an s4 my mirrors are the brushed alumium I just swap that piece out with the new mirrors?
    Thanks

You keep the housing and the glass, everything else gets swapped. Check out the page now. I have a picture of a set of 09 replacement mirrors on there and you can see what you get.

Got it... thats kinda what I figured. Did you have any trouble removing the glass? Looks like it just pops out, then the screws and tabs behind. I was following this thread

Removing the glass is probably one of the easiest parts of the install.

    David,

Do you have access to part numbers for the aspherical European left mirror and aspherical British right mirror glass? I'm thinking of upgrading to those at the same time I do the power folding upgrade.
    I don't feel like paying $1,000 + from OEMPlus for mirror glass as I need Heated & Dimming for a 2010 A4.

    2010 Aspherical HTD, DIM.
    Left: 8F0 857 535 H
    Right: 8F0 857 535 H

Note the part number 8F0, the fact that it shows 0 at the end means it's not left or right hand specific, in fact all mirrors are neither left or right hand drive.

Before someone else asks, 2009 heated and dimming:
    Left: 4F0 857 535 AJ
    Right 4F0 857 536 AJ

NOT CHEAP!!! Even from ECS expect $800 for the pair. I'll need a lot more donations before I get these :)

Do I have your coding? When I do the vag section of the DIY I can check for some additional coding.

Not sure I'm going to get to much more done tonight but You can get the door panel off now and order parts

Thanks David for the info on aspherical mirrors.
After reading that it's still north of $800 and with the info about the difference from the link posted by B_Boy, this isn't a mod for me. I'd rather put that money into the folding mirrors!

nice write up, i installed rs4 mirrors on my b7 and the install is very similar to the b8, the only problem i had was with the outside weather trim, i didnt want to take it off so i had to force the backing plate on the mirror to go behind it, which was very difficult, i hope u figure out an easier way to get the backing plate on with out screwing up the weather trim, will be following ur thread

The mirrors will automatically fold out again, if you are driven forwards at a speed above about 15 km/h (or they should do it).

Just re-read through what you have so far. There are a couple errors, nothing major where your point isn't conveyed. I'm sure you'll catch them when you go through the DIY again. Thanks again for the effort you put into this!

Maybe if we can gain enough interest (10-12 people) we can get a group buy together. Maybe for some sort of a 'kit' that includes all of the parts & the set of tools from ECS.

Oki - the mirrors can be folded in or out as long as the speed isn't above about 15 km/h - and then as I wrote "The mirrors will automatically fold out again, if you are driven forwards at a speed above about 15 km/h"

This is how it should work OEM.

Just a quick note, I haven't gotten that far yet but if you want to save a few dollars you can drill the hole in your old trim to show the new picture. I just bought the part because it never occurred to me to even try. Problem is if you don't get it right on it's a loss.

Make sure you order 2-4 door clips. They are cheap and better safe than sorry.

I thought about this when I got my trim as well. If you have the optical ring, you should be able to put some painters tape on the top, use a marker on the tape to mark off the spot when the picture is and quickly install it before the marker dries. Once installed, just uninstall it and you should be able to drill the trim right where the ink transferred.

Yes I was going to get a few of them just to have them on hand. One last quick question.. I do not have memory seats but would the memory mirrors work if I purchased? I input the trim piece part# for my car at ECS but it didnt come up either, two different pieces did but I need black.

Hey Chris, I've sent a message to ECS and I'll try and help get that part number issued fixed. Chris is really fast on this stuff so I am sure he will get back to me or the thread as soon as he has it figured out.

As far as the memory mirror goes.. Hmmm... Well I just spent some time reading the wiring diagrams for the mirrors and I can't see any real differences since they use the same control module. Which means all the adjustments must be the same between the versions. I think the difference is the memory mirrors have a vertical and horizontal sensor built into them. Do I think they would work? Yes I do but I can't say for sure. If it were me I'd probably buy them with the intention of adding the full memory feature eventually using the memory key feature. The same way the memory seats can be enabled on the A5/S5. Sorry the answer isn't more definitive for you. You could also find someone else on the board with memory mirrors that wants to do the upgrade that is willing to wait and see if they work for you and buy them if they don't. You don't have to install them to test. Just plug one in out of the package and confirm.

Side assist has nothing to do with the mirrors it's just the light thats attached to the housing. Since there is no variations for that option they all come with the wiring for them.

Ok kids page 2 is done. Just the door panel and coding left. This has taken a lot longer than I thought it would sorry. I apologize if it's not detailed enough or to detailed but doing the best I can. This is still only available to Audizine members using the link at the start of this thread. It has not been made available from the site yet.

Hopefully the next day or two and it will be all done. Anyways time to get to bed so I can make it through the day at my paying job...

Update for everyone, I'm unable to source 8K1 867 172 E 7PE but 8K1 867 172 7PE does return a result. We are going to look through the ETKA for it but that takes some time. We are on it and once we've got everything sorted I'll post up a link to a kit for these.

Chris I emailed you the market and illustration to look under for the part. I reconfirmed it. The part listed there is only good upto 03/08 and I'm not even sure it supports folding mirrors. Either way the email I sent should solve the mystery.

Ok guys I screwed up somewhere. The reason the part is so hard to find is because I have the last digit listed wrong. I'm sorry for all the confusion 8K1 867 171 E 7PE is the correct part. I will fix the site when I get home. See this is why I never launch a project until I have finished and verified everything.

Once again sorry for the confusion.
