Credit and good job to "Macuser," just thought this is very useful.

yes there is. i accidentally did this to my car when i was playing around with the coding for my headlights. i dont know exactly what i did, but i can point you in the right direction if you want to try it out.

below is the code that stiffened up my steering.
    26001031063C00000000080000005D5D5D1452080000000100 0000

below is the code that doesnt stiffen up my steering.
    26001031063C00010000080000001D0D0F1452080000000100 0000

byte 14 and 15 isnt the answer. maybe its byte 7 that needs to be changed from 01 to 00? maybe its byte 16 that needs to be changed from 0F TO 5D? regardless, before changing codes, make sure you write down your original code before changing it.

    That is really cool!

How stiffer does it make it?

it makes the car feel pretty solid. you have to crank it when you're pulling out of a parking spot. other than that, it feels good when you're actually driving it.

Cool - if you find out which byte it is I'll definitely try it out...

I have to wonder if this is bascially doing what having the ADS light that comes with the S4's Sport Diff changes when you put steering into Dynamic mode - it becomes substantially stiffer by lowering the amount of assist the power steering pump gives.

you have to change byte 7 from 01 to 00

    go to 09-Cent. Elect.

then go to Coding - 07 and change byte 7 from 01 to 00

yea, i think the assistance the power steering pump give decreases by changing this. even when i'm parked i can feel the difference in the stiffness

Question: is this dynamically applied? Meaning it's stiff all the time like the old time non power steering we grew up on or just at high speeds, wher eyou may not want the wheel to travel so much...???

Just tried this ** can confirm it is byte 7 ** bit "0" in vcds parlance ** from 00000001 to 00000000 to stiffen things up. Stiffens WAY WAY up. Probably too much for my tastes. Above 30 mph or so it's good, but in parking lots or low speed turns it seems a bit underboosted. Maybe I've just gotten used to being overboosted since March... ... but I don't think so ** this seems like less boost than my B5 had.

    Wish there was something in-between...

its stiffer at slow speeds and at high speeds. once you change the code and you turn the car on, when you turn the wheel you'll notice the difference.

too bad we can't control the change - I may not like it as stiff as you make it seam. It is still interesting though...

    Does this turn of servotronic?

I kind of wondered that as well ** although when parked it didn't seem as if it were completely off ** and when turning the wheel I could hear a very faint hum like the PS pump engaging as I moved away from center... So I don't think this completely disables it, but I could be wrong.

yea, i wish there was something in between as well. i changed it back to stock because i got sick of cranking the wheel at low speeds.

I guess I should mention that I've got a 6MT with the sports pack which some have suggested already has a bit stiffer steering than the non-sport. I've not driven one back-back so I can't really say.

That is correct. Sport Pack cars have stiffer steering. I noticed this right after driving a non-sports pack car. I assume they set the dynamic steering setting by default on sport pack cars w/o ADS.

If that is the case ** someone with a Prem+ non sport care to post your Cent Elect coding? Perhaps we can search out the differences to find the "ADS dynamic" steering bit for those w/o sport that want a bit stiffer steering.

Guess same could be said of a premium vs. premium + sport...

FYI ** mine (09 Prem+ sport ** no other options ** well... met paint, but...)

I wonder if it would be possible to look at the coding while in Comfort, then again in Dynamic to see what changed in order to find the throttle changes?

You should be able to do that real time if you know the module and long coding to watch.
