ferodo ds2500 brake pads

anyone have a good review on these? they cost about twice the hawk hps. i am wondering if it is worth it.

anybody know the best place to pick up a front set?

i have used them on and off over the years. The DS2500 is one of the best pads i have used for street and light track use. They have a very broad temp range and handle heat very well. The biggest quam people have with them is the dust output. They are a little dusty when compared to the hawk hps, but they are much better than the hps at higher temps. if you like clean wheels, skip the ds2500.

IMHO they are best suited for a situation where you need a single brake pad to use for dd, auto-x and light brake hdpe's (some courses are harder on pads than others).

Agreed, I'll be replacing mine with another set of DS2500s. They will dust a bit more than HPS as mentioned and I have a comparison of how brake dust looks with Carbotech Bobcat ceramics in the rear. I'll try to dig that up. They should be slightly better on dust than OEM pads though. But once bedded in properly, great bite even when cold.

i won't be tracking this car but i do a bunch of canyon runs and such and want a firm bite on the brakes...

i am thinking these pads plus stoptech brake lines and motul rbf600 should have me all set right?

yup, should work well for that. For canyon runs, RBF600 is probably overkill, but I'm not sure. I'd guess Motul 5.1 would be fine but might as well ask around from people who regularly go on canyon runs to see if the higher bp is really necessary since RBF600 is fairly expensive.

About dust, this is after 3 or so weeks of not washing my wheels and shows DS2500 in front and ceramics in the back. So they should dust less than OEM, and keep in mind slotted rotors will contribute more dust than blank rotors.

i wouldnt get the RBF, just 5.1... rbf needs a yearly flush. its a straight track fluid so it has a higher boiling point but absorbs a lot more water...

but you will like the ferodos a lot once bedded in

RBF600 is definitly overkill. If you use that fluid remember you are suppose to flush and bleed it every year or so. If you want something lower maintnance the Pentosin Racing fluid is a great fluid. I used it on the track without issue. Plus you don't have to flush it every year & you get a full liter for the price of 0.5 liters of motul 600. The other excellent option is the ATE Gold which is what i had put in my car back in the spring, it has been very good at the track and is easy to find.

I have the ds2500 on my rs4. Great pad. They do dust a bit. I also have rbf 660 fluid. Never had a problem with it .Remember dot 5.1 only refers to what the thing is made up of not how much heat it will absorb before boiling.

I'd have at least 1.5L on hand if you're flushing, took me a tad over 1L but I bleed manually. 2L wouldn't hurt since unopened bottles have a good shelf life. A good idea to bleed slave cylinder as well since you're changing fluids, but that doesn't hold much, 100cc IIRC.

got the hps for $100, goodrige front and rear for $130, and motul for $3 per bottle....not bad at all

Not sure if the compounds are the same but the ds2500's for my Evo dust like a mofo. I guess that also depends on how hard you drive the car. The brake dust is greater than what I'm willing to accept and also the dust was rust colored. A possible indication of iron content.... The pads have never faded and only perform better with heat. They also cause rotor glow if that's your thing.
Very impressed with the performance and ultra low noise. Not so much impressed with the dust. Tifwiw

Good deal, that should suit you well. Mind PMing where you got the fluid so cheap, or did you just buy it from someone local? Actually, also curious where you got the Goodridge lines.
