Any more pictures? Vinny can you do a write up of all the parts required to do this?
Yea, I'll do a write up of all the parts I've accumulated and edit the first post. Most of the parts are listed in the initial post, but there are a few other things that I have acquired. I'm sure Doug or I can post up the ETKA plots of the necessary parts too if needed.
Vinny, do you know for sure yet or not if the shop has the "1.8T transmission spacer" working? I have the same one and it does not line up on my block. I'm wondering if DoWerk figured out something we could not... very possible.
Ray shipped it out last week, so my wild guess is it should arrive this monday or tuesday. I'll try to get Jake more involved on here about this topic. From the sounds of it, theres no reason why it shouldn't fit...since others have already done this before, without the spacer (i thought), I kind of just ordered the spacer "just in case" ordeal. We'll find out.
Yeah, that is what I keep hearing... I don't get it. My trans bolted right on no problems with out any spacer but the flywheel is stuck on the bellhousing (I have a nice scar inside the bellhousing to prove it). The spacer plate Ray sent me is the exact same plate that was already on the 3.0 trans so I have two now, should of asked for a part number first I guess.
The spacer plate lines right up with the trans, Ray said it lines up with the 1.8T trans, but it does not even come close to lining up with my block. I hope I can find a solution before you run into it... or I'm dumb.
Did you end up taking any pictures? I thought Ray lined up the spacer to an 1.8t engine block before he shipped it to you and me? I mean what are the chances of the blocks being different (maybe between b6 and b5), but then if they were, the 01A wouldn't bolt up... for Clint and and Dave. Or, there is something else we are missing that we don't know...
I remember Doug telling me someone on here has done the same thing, I'll have to call Doug tomm and ask. Come to think of it, I think we are the only two that is/has attempt to put a 01e 3.0 trans in a 1.8t.
I'll take photos tomorrow, I was not able to make it back into the shop over the weekend. Ray told me he lined it up to a 1.8T transmission, this is where I'm confused, why would it line up with a 1.8T trans but not the block? I remember talking to Doug about someone else who has done it, but Doug was not able to contact him IIRC.
Also the plates you and I are getting are different part numbers, but supposedly the same??? You are getting 01e103551a and mine is 01e103551c ..not sure if there is a difference or not, but Ray said they were the same.
heres the reason why its diff...from the site i found
"The next piece that you will need is called a filler plate. It's found on the Audi 2.7 TT equipped cars. So far this has been the hardest part for me to locate due to the fact that noone knew what I was talking about and I didn't have a picture. Bullmoose did a good job of describing it to me and luckily had a p/n to. The part number for the piece he used is 01E103551C. A dealer ship looked it up for me and said it was superceded by the number 01E103551A."
I guess without the physical engine block, and seeing the orientation of it. Its impossible to figure it out. Hopefully Tyler you figure it out, or Jake will. Because this down time is killing me, and I'm on a pretty tight schedule of needing the car back.
Agreed. I miss my car a lot, and this one problem has held it up by a couple weeks now and caused a fire.
I'm trying to think if there are any outlying reasons that it doesn't bolt up... I think I'm going to pm bikesai, the gentleman that did a swap in his b5 to see if he ran into this problem. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't fit, when it fits our trans, but not the block...granted the spacer/trans was made for a v6 motor.
Would the swap have been any easier if Vinny went with the 5 speed GBT transmission instead of using a 3.0 6 speed?
Are you asking in regards to the bellhousing interfering with the clutch assembly? Clint answered that in the post above me.
No matter which manual transmission he went with he would still have to swap the driveshaft, rear differential, shifter linkage, pedal assembly, front half shafts, etc..
I was never worried about the bellhousing issue because I knew both Jeff and Brian successfully mated an 01E to the 1.8T block. I was not aware the 01E bellhousing did not have enough clearance (as is) for a 240mm clutch assembly. The FX700 fit fine (Brian) and the stock clutch assembly fit fine (Jeff).
Vince has the FX850. I don't think the clutch assembly is 240mm so I don't think he'll have that problem.

Ah ok. Yes I was asking in regards to bellhousings.

That and Brian has a FX850 now from what I read on here, which fits fine on his setup. So there isn't any reason why it shouldn't fit. I'm looking forward to an update with Jake. I called him thurs and fri, and he never got back to me. So he must be chugging along on the car.

Brian is also running a custom flywheel and bellhousing adapter for his VR6. His set-up can't be compared beyond what he ran with the 1.8T combo.
Can you guys help me out with my swap? I picked up the 6 speed that Clint posted (from a 2.7TT) and found a 4.11 rear diff online. I called up Shokan for the remaining parts but they want so damn much for the rest (i.e. B6 3.0 6 speed: front & rear axles, rear crossmember, clutch master cylinder, driveshaft).
Do any of you have any hook ups to help me with the rest?

How much did they want? I just hawked ebay and junkyards constantly....
I got the rear diff via ebay for $150 (to my door)--shokan wanted $385. Axles are something like $235 EACH!!! Craziness.
It's hard to find the exact axles since it's so specific. That's one of my biggest worries. Oh, and I just hit up Sami to see if he still had the driveshaft.
If you have any search suggestions for the axles (or part numbers), I'd appreciate it.
So you know that your ECU will work after you recode? I'm looking around for parts right now. I'm thinking about going with a 5-speed from a 2.8 B5 and rear diff from a 5-speed 3.0 B6.

There is no 5 speed 3.0 B6, only 6 speed. Also, IIRC the 3.0 uses a 4.11 rear end and the 2.8 is 3.89 just like the B6 1.8T.
BT/BAT build threads make me happy I have a stock turbo
