Anyone got a Project they want to share?
Ooo wow, I never have seen this forum before. For all the welders and home fabricators, lets get some discussions and projects in the mix!
Does anyone have any projects they are looking to do? Any projects they are currently taking on? Just curious what everyone is into here, and if anyone is from the B5 S4 forum.
I haven't been able to do much fabrication on my current B5 S4, but I used to be into Jeeps and have done quite a bit of fabrication in that area. Figured I'd show a couple pictures.
Here are a few pics of my last welding project. 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 5.2L V8 with lots of mods, in this iteration: HP44 front and 9" rear axles, locked. Chevy knuckles and HD brakes, along with histeer. Long arm setup, 5 link up front with track bar, and triangulated 4 link rear, trussed axle, etc. Plasma cut out the bottom of the uni-body, 1/4" channel instead. Was an amazing experience learning how to do everything; many near sleepless nights in the machine shop. Can smile when I say not one thing ever broke, despite the abuse and lengthy aggressive highway driving it received.

Re: Anyone got a Project they want to share?
Love the Jeep man!
Before I got into my S4, I did a 350 chev swap into my '86 XJ. Although I didn't do much welding (just had to fab up a custom trac-bar to clear my oil pan) I did put in a factory TPI fuel injection from an '87 firebird. Took awhile to figure out the wiring, but it runs fucking awesome on the trails! Lots of low end torque (which is what the TPI was great for). Did that swap about 4 years now, and nothing major has gone wrong!
I would love to get into more fab work. Not the prettiest welder, but it works! I hope this new section really takes off, would love to see more custom work!

Than is used only in comparisons.

Got a few. Unfortunately I never really got to do any super serious wheeling with the big jeep in its final stage. I was having driveshaft issues for awhile and while I put 5000 miles on the setup, I didn't get to take it to Johnson Valley or Moab or anywhere fun. Just local stuff.
This is on 35s with Dana HP30 up front (open) and Ford 8.8" 60" (stock width) axles instead of the eventual 65" fullsize Ford 9" and HP44 front.
Moab, hells revenge
2nd Jeep (bought this one already done up). Dana HP30, Dana 44 rear, Long arms but 5 link in the rear (trackbar), 35's. Colorado.

Considering the OP is a Jeep, I guess this topic is not limited to cars with four rings on the front. -So I'll throw up my turd-polishing skills for your entertainment.
I've done a couple of things to a 1990 Mustang. It's a streetable (but mostly track) car for which I've built, rebuilt or replaced just about everything but the frame and body (which is original.)
A couple of pics for now... I'll post a few more if anyone is interested.
On-track at NHMS; an airdam I fabbed (not pretty but it works, and ducts air to the front brakes.)
331ci stroker- built up from a DSS short block... Yeah, okay; it was mostly just throwing parts at the short block with a manual. (and yes, this is in the livingroom of my old apartment , circa 2001.)
A panhard bar chassis mount to replace a broken Kenny Brown piece: (I also fabbed the beefed-up lower shock mount for the coil-over in the photo.)
More pics available for anyone as weird as me who still likes 20 year-old cars.

Nice guys. Loving the foxbody. Wanted a 5.0 for soooo long when I was a teenager. Impractical but awesome and loud. The living room shot is priceless...
Bike looks sick too, great transformation.

This was one of them for a very long time. Everything from the nose to the turret to the intakes and engine covers had to be re-fabbed on several of these a month.
I am starting to work on an old 1961 lincoln that I picked up a little while ago, will send picture of that once it is underway.
And the lexus project that is sitting in southern california still.

Hey Elliot! Nice ZJ! Looks very well rounded. Love the Anti-rock up front. Can't say I miss my ZJ that often... generally only in traffic when I have the desire to just start pushing people out of the way.
Long Live Mallcrawlin.com too! Hope the ZJ community is still going strong.

Kickass dude! Why you sell though? more cash for the S4 I hope? =D
I loved Claytons arms. That is what i based mine off of, after I sold the clayton setup and sleeved the entire unibody frame rails. It was basically a copy, hahaha, just with a bit of different anti-squat properties in the 4link. I sold the Jeep for ridiculously cheap, I wonder what happened to it? The guy screwed me over with the DMV, as his mom worked for them. 3 years later, without anyone telling me, I ended up with $1000 in racked up fees and tickets, that I went to court over twice and got denied. It was part of the deal to get rid of that stuff. Bastard. They said I still the owner, despite me releasing ownership and doing everything.

Thanks, ya I am selling it to buy some go fast goodies for my S. I remember reading about your jeep on nagca; when it was for sale I wanted to buy it but didnt have the cash at the time. Sucks what happened to you, just shows how shady people can be when it comes to stuff like that. I'm sad to sell it but need to feed my new addiction!

Very ambitious project! I used to have a B5 Passat. Loved it, but the FWD and 1.8T got boring to me. Plus the tranny died. What wheels are yuo going to run?

not sure on the wheels, yet i want to push out all the suspension geometry instead of going with some retardedly wide wheels. my passat is the v6 30 valve and i have 211,000 miles on the engine, and 50,000 on the second tranny, but its coming off the road today, i just picked up a 2004 audi s4 that well im not going to touch in like any way.

Heres a project I'm just getting into. Follow along if you wish!!
SL-C Monocoque project.
-
Wow, nice work. It must be so sweet having a rapid prototype machine at your disposal. Some nice equipment.
-
Been a while since I've been swamped. Missed taking pics on quite a few, but here are some I did get some quick shots of before leaving...
Nissan JDM Silvia S13 Time Attack/Solo-Sprint Car
SR20 with GT28. Built block and ported head for GT3071 in Winter.

Did some charge piping mods to fit new greddy manifold, and upsize around a few choke points.
Also, 25 litre fuel cell that weighs 7lbs 6oz.

Made to fit all stock lines etc. and a new easy-fill cap.

Aluminum 3.5" exhaust that weighs in at 7lbs 3 oz. Center exit for later diffuser build and to be a little unique.

Used a regular hanger but flipped it sideway...

Modified metric DP to 3" and extended it to save the aluminum exhaust.

Swapped to v-band of course...

Inside penetration at transition point from outlet shape to 3"..
-
More mayhem....
Never ending change of scenery around this cowboy!!!
Zo6 Titanium exhaust mod, mostly just for increased volume. Simple bypass tube.
The GM MIG Ti is mediocre, at best. Does the job though. Exhaust is pretty light.
Hemi Magnum muffler install. Didn't want muffler during exhaust install. Changed his mind later. Sounds really good now, really smooth and low.
Ruckus frame I modified in winter is back for exhaust. A few pics of it powder coated.
Titanium exhaust done by Monday hopefully.

Another Ruckus frame I started for 250cc swap.

The welding that was on another frame makes me cringe. He brought it for a modded shock mount and I saw this!!!
1 Man helicopter prototype exhaust for unique, directly opposed 2 cylinder. Hopefully be in Osh-Kosh by the end of the month for the big show.
Not done yet, have to place and weld tip, and fab bracket off of valve cover for muffler.
Still have to conquer the blue skyline, and this starts early next week: Headers and exhaust on this 2010 RS/SS. Baselined at 331 last monday on buddies dyno. Hoping for 30whp with a tune. Car needs gears. 145mph in 4th!!!(6 speed)
-
Got the Helicopter prototyping done. Each side weighs just under 4lbs. Fairly tricky job, as everything was kinda on the fly. Sizes I don't work with and don't have parts for, and a tight schedule.
Weld around the v-band plate, goofed on one spot...

Weld on tubing pre-clean-up.

After a quick rub...

Finished.

Hopefully get to watch it fly this week if he gets the rest of the parts in on time.

Unobtanium, your TIG work looks amazing. We don't do a lot of TIG work in the offroad world which is good; I don't think I'd have the patience for it.
