You can do it on your car as well... the benefit to it is that it is less expensive than buying new downpipes. If you have the money, buy an aftermarket downpipe b/c you can go larger in diameter and see better gains and quicker spool. Although if you plan on staying w/ the stock turbo, just go w/ piggies, but if you plan to go w/ a BT setup i'd go w/ a 3" downpipe. That's my $0.02 :)

^^^x2. test pipes for the 1.8t are really cheap(like $150) where as downpipes for the 2.7t are like $1000+, which is why piggy pipes are popular on the 2.7t and why most people just get a test pipe if you have a 1.8t

Re: The Offical New Mexico Audi Thread

oh, well you see our downpipes contain the cats. we have FOUR cats. "piggy pipes" usually means just gutting our pre-cats and leaving the main cats in tact, since the 2.7t will still pass emissions without the pre-cats, but gains substantial power from it.

there is nothing to gut in the 1.8t's downpipe.
with a test pipe you will probably not be able to pass emissions.

I got a new camera here. There are 4 cats on the 2.7t, and the O2s that measures emissions are in front of the main cats (to measure what the exhaust that has gone through the pre-cats). With piggies there are two options, which are to either relocate the O2s to behind the main cats, or use sparkplug non-foulers to space the O2s away from the moving exhaust. I used the non-fouler method and have never cad a CEL, so I'll still pass emissions.

Re: The Offical New Mexico Audi Thread

I'm new to the Audi scene, and just picked up a 00 S4.

Car is in need of some dire loving, as can be found here
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=338292

But as soon as I get it back together I will be needing some crash course learning.
After having the same car for 7 years, switching vehicles makes me feel like a complete noob all over again. lol
& there is a lot of little things I could probably use some assistance with in the future.

Like where the hell do I find G12 coolant, Audi approved ATF, or PS fluid?

I read your story and that all sucks but there are plenty of people here that will help you work on your car and get it fixed as for all the special fluid that you need you can also go to foreign aid auto on san pedro their a vw audi repair shop they manly do aircooled but they have all the stuff for our cars for less then the dealership..also you need to post pics of your ride and you should come out to the meets there every friday at 7 at ABQ uptown
