Your block is retarded. Sorry i couldn't resist lol i would say it is normal as i have noticed that to when i was rotating the stock assembly getting ready to remove the rods and pistons. I thought it was weird but didn't think much of it since i know the motor ran perfect before disassemble.

Ha reading "Your block IS retarded. Sorry..." Just made my stomach drop. Thanks.
In regards to the piston squirters and the crank.... Spoke to Tony and he seemed hesitant about them touching. Then I spoke to vast and they said the clearance is really tight but the squirters shuld be bent upwards to avoid hitting the crank. Thanks.
Also spoke to Tony regarding my build. Will post that up later.

clutch... spec WAS shitty a couple years ago but since then have come lightyears in quality control. Im heading to EPL on saturday because Dr. Jekyll (Kevin) is letting me take his CM fx400 for a spin. tony is gonna try to arrange for a spec 3+ clutch to be there as well.. both guys, super helpful Too bad I cant drive a SB clutched car since thats the way Im leaning solely based on the forums...
W/M... i was going to go with the general vast kit but tony pushed me over the fence and Im going to go with the aquamist HFS-1 with the failsafe.
also... my stock fuel rails are kinda mangled due to the previous owner.. id like to get the billet ones so if any of you big gt guys have a good picture of the routing and hookup to the stock line, that would be great..
What Tony said about SPEC is true. Spec got a bad rap in the past when their kits using the rs4 pressure plates starting failing. They have since addressed the issue and haven't used RS4 PPs for awhile now. I for one love the way my Spec stg3+ drives.

What time are you going to be there Saturday?
Im glad that Spec revived themselves... especially since there stage 3+ is a full face and that they are claiming it will gold more than a stg3 which is rated at 815ft lbs. full face is a great benefit considering its easier to drive than a puck..
Kevin said the earliest hes going to be there is 12 and he will probably stay till like 5 or until tony kicks him out. Im going to aim to get there at 1. You should join the party. Hopefully tony will have presents waiting for me and you can all watch me unwrap it.

all you audi enthusiasts that live close to each other and doing your builds around the same time can go to hell.. im so jealous..
i guess ill go hang out with some dodge cummins buddies.. blah...
I feel ya... I'm out in the middle of nowhere too w/ no audi enthusiasts around
we can all video chat..
i can def feel you though. some of my friends or actually most of my friends that claim to be "car guys" are just really bad excuses for enthusiasts. they kinda just go through the motions.. a normal person wouldnt be able to tell the difference but i can in an instant.
i mean i dont know if you any of you guys can relate but if I showed one of them the linkage upgrade i did on my tranny and had them row through the gears, they would react..."ah ok.. thats cool." if the positions were switched i would be stoked, try to see what parts were changed to get the more solid feel... etc. If i try to explain to them what parts im ordering i get the same respone.. "o cool." again, if the positions were switched id question every reason as to why those parts and try to learn everything i didnt know. another example... this build thread i started. if one of my friends or self pronounced "car guys" was doing a build this extensive and had a thread I would be checking it daily.
ok end of my rant...
just be glad audizine is such a great forum with such helpful and knowledgeable guys.
Good to see a Queens local doing a sick build, good luck with your project.
Whats your overall HP goal? What will you be satisfied with?
Thanks.. considering I have rods I can push the tials to 28psi (which is alot more air than 28 psi on rs6s)... add in the meth and the rest of the supporting mods... I'll be happy with anything cracking the 500whp barrier. 530whp would be pretty nuts though ... well see what happens.
Man, your build is fantastic. I plan on doing exactly these things to my motor for my RS6 build. I might need to pay your way up to Boston for some help.
I planned on rebuilding the motor myself and doing rods/bearings, etc...but there's one problem. I have NEVER done anything like this...ever.

RS6's at 28psi and meth will break 500whp. You should have no problem.

Very Nice, sounds like your S is def gonna be a beast. Props to you for DIY, dont see that many guys doing this in their own garage. +Rep for you my friend.
Forgot to ask you earlier, is this going to be your DD, or track toy? Both?

Feel like building another one?
nice.. yea k04s dont seem to cut it anymore.
if your serious i'll def help out/build another one. this is my first audi motor but ive done numerous other motors.. all american v8s.. ford 302, 351c, chevy 327, two ls1s, mopar 440.. its basically all the same on the 2.7.. clearances are just a lot tighter.. everything else uses the same logic..

When I bought my s4 about a year ago, it was meant to be a DD. I changed jobs and now I dont need the car during the week to commute to work so I guess you can call it a weekend car.
I have an old 99 ram 2500 which is my parts hauler and thats what im cruising in now while the s4 is under surgery. After this build is done, if I have to go anywhere that isnt appropriate for the s4, ill just rock the ram.

Yeah man. My goal with my S4 has been to LEARN. I've always been very into cars, but lacked the means and the car to really learn/build. I came into this S4, and decided to use it as an opportunity to really get my hands dirty. I don't have money to throw around to pay people to do things anyway...I spend all of my money on parts, haha.
I'm positive that I'll need a hand with it. I wont have too much money, but I'll probably have some to offer to a fellow AZer for helping out. When the time comes, I'll get in touch. I'm probably buying the motor within the next two months.
That's sick that you've gotten to work on so many motors. One day I'll get there...

thats awesome man. motivation is more than half the battle and sounds like you got it. Ive seen some guys want this and that done to the car just so they can have it... then when crunch time comes.. poop hits the fan..
funny side story that kinda relates to the motivation im talking about.. when i was stage 2 me and a couple of my buddies went to a test and tune. one had an ls1 fbody with a catback and drag radials and the other had a 335xi. Both arent very good drivers but the 335xi ran a best of 14.1 and the ls1 ran a best 14.0. which are pretty crappy times for both cars.
not digging for excuses but i put in the jhm solid shifter at 3am the night b4 we went to the track and realized at the track i did a crappy job of aligning it so I had trouble getting into 3rd and had to shift slowly to get it in.. I ran a 13.4 with a 1.7 60 foot.
my buddy with the ls1 fbody did not like this considering his big v8 with drag radials lost to a "bland looking" luxury 4 door car with bose, leather, heated seats blah blah blah. he blamed it on his high mileage motor. this caused him to yank the motor and do a stock rebuild. he got it out, put it back together and all sorts of things went wrong... wouldnt idle.. electronics were all out of wack.. tail lights would light up whenever they wanted.. had to use a screwdriver rigging the starter to get the car running... alternator wasnt charging the battery... blah blah.. just to get things in perspective, he learned how to change his oil a couple months b4 he yanked his motor. he left the car alone for about 3 months. 7 months later, he has his motor out again.. you can use your imagination to predict how this ends.
s4 is a challenging car to be the first one to tinker on... atleast compared to american cars and motors... if you can tackle this you can tackle a hell of a lot.

This story is both a motivator and a de-motivator.

Nice.
bottom line is that audizine is a great resource because of the guys here that make it what it is... if you decide to rebuild the motor yourself, u wont have any problem finding answers or guidance here. if you take your time and dont rush it you will get an unbelievable feeling when you turn that key to start the motor you rebuilt from the bottom up..
I vote..... DO IT!!
you can always contact me with any questions.

quick update... all the parts to finish assembling the heads are scheduled to come tomorrow so I should have the heads back on by the end of this weekend.
valve seals
head gaskets
head bolts
top end gasket kit
lapping compound
exhaust manifold gaskets
getting my mopar 440 dynoed today.. i'll post pictures and results when I get back just to mix things up.
Thanks for showing us your progress. I learned how to do big turbo stuff on my 1.8T A4.
I've rebuilt a motor with my dad when I was 17. Now that I'm finished college (mechanical engineering), played with my big turbo a4, now i'm ready to ditch it or keep it as my daily and pick up an S4 and do the exact same build.
Maybe I can PM you in the future for approximate cost of the build. My goal is 420-450awhp on pump gas on stock rods. Then do block rebuild and Meth later.
I can't wait to see dyno and video of the car. Keep up the good progress!
Vids of: how it pulls inside the car, How it sounds, drivability, pulls against the K04 cars and RS6 cars
sorry i kinda noticed that after i read it through.. came out wrong.. i was trying to show that if ur not motivated or driven then stuff can get nasty.. hence the 7 months to do a simple job.
the reason the engine didnt run right was because of stupid mistakes that anybody would make if they just woke up and decided to rebuild a motor... valvetrain wasnt adjusted, rings werent installed correctly, things werent torqued..

Awesome man, thanks. I'm pretty confident that it'll work out, I just have to find a good resource for educating myself on the process.
This has been my favorite build to watch so far. Keep it up man. I can't wait to see it running! We should do some runs when my RS6 car is running. We'll have fairly similar mods, so it'd be interesting to see if the 605s really live up to the hype (which they really may).
