    DDM 5k HID kit. *Pics*

Got my kit today woot! I LOVE IT!!! Can't believe I've gone this long without HIDs. I got the $40 35w 5k Raptor kit from DDM. I wasn't sure which color temp to get. I wanted as bright as I could get but with a slight blue tint. I almost got the 6k kit but I'm glad I didn't. The 5k is exactly the color I wanted! I'd like to compare it side by side with stock xenons. (don't look at my ugly ass bumper lol)

Stock bulb left, DDM 5k right

You only got a 35w kit for the headlights?

They look great, but generally people put the 55w. Let me know how it is!

Re: DDM 5k HID kit. *Pics*

I did the exact same thing yesterday. 35w lows, 5000K. Looks beautiful, pure white. At night it is incomparable to the halogens. At least 3x illumination in front and sides. Cutoff is clean and straight. Not getting anyone flashing their highs. My only issue is not knowing where to mount the ballasts. But overall, HUGE improvement for $53 shipped.

As far as I know most OEM HIDs are 35w. They're still very much brighter than my stock halogens. 3x brighter as advertised. I think 55w would be overkill and annoying to other drivers.

I don't know but they've been around for awhile and a lot of people use their products. It was direct plug and play and everything seemed very high quality and very well made. It was packaged very neatly and professionally too.

    Nice.

For safety purposes, all cars should come standard with HIDs. There is a ridiculously huge difference between HID and halogen. When I drive a halogen equipped car at night i feel like its unsafe, especially in wooded areas or dark neighborhoods.

Rep+ to you A4wheelin'! My DDM 35w 5000K kit just came this week. Thanks for posting this thread with pictures of the halogen bulb vs. HID bulb. My only concern is where to mount the ballast, you aren't having any codes on the dash pop-up with the ballast mounted in the tray under the headlight housing? Thanks.

No problem at all! I couldn't find any pics of the 5k kit when I was doing my research so I figured I'd help someone else out with the same questions I had. I haven't had any problems at all with this kit. They turn on each time I turn the switch and no codes at all. I mounted the ballast in the stock location under the headlight housing.

Here is a cell pic I took this morning.

I agree the difference in unreal! You should try driving my Coupe GT. The DOT housings should be illegal. I run the highbeams 100% of the time and never even get flashed from other drivers. And the road is still dark. Scary driving it in the country. I'm getting some lighting upgrades for it before winter hits for sure!

No, the 5000k are whiter IRL i think. It's definitely your perception, not a difference in the companies. To think 5000k is the same as 8000k is ridiculous.

Light output. 55w is brighter and will shoot further.

Anything over 6000K looks too blue. IIRC 4600K? is about as white as it gets.

Yeah, it really does. And also the housings they're in too. Cause i had some 10k on my old passat that from the front of the car didn't really look any bluer than the pic in the parking garage. It was much more noticeably blue on the ground in front of the car though. I forgot what brand they were though.

Here's a pic for reference (they don't even look like 10k, but they were advertised as 10k and even the packaging said they were):

Is it just the picture or is there a large amount of glare coming from the audi?
I thought the halogen projectors would at least aim the beam somewhat.

I thought the halogen projectors would at least aim the beam somewhat.
its kinda both! the halogen projectors are different than the HID projectors so it doesnt take all that light too well...lets just say my cut-off sucks lol but e-codes are on my list

My friend got 12k on his pearl white 07 STI. They're not pink, thank god, but they're very deep blue with a strong hint of purple. IMO they look really good on white, even if they do suck at light output. And he has the manual leveling feature so he just aims them a little higher, not enough to piss off traffic but enough to where they illuminate everything just fine. Honestly he has them pointed perfectly, we tested it out both in his car and me driving head on towards him. They didn't blind me, and from inside the car you can see everything.

They look a lot like this from a head on point of view:

But the ground in front of him is pretty purple. This picture is from a color modded cutoff line (cutoff was made thicker and a little more purple) so these are actually 5k in an Evo IX with TSX projectors. Thus why the ground is white.

A couple more pics for reference :

And the cutoff line (not quite as clean as ecodes, but TSX projectors are supposed to be some of the best out there other than TL or S2K projectors):

Interesting that you ask that. This morning I got error codes. :( The red "brake" fluid low light was flashing, the ESP light was on and another light that I'm forgetting. I turned the car off at a light and they all went out except for the ESP light. Fairly annoying.
