Audi Marketing decided that another "S" on the Audi would just confuse people. The "T" has always denoted forced induction (Up until this point, turbo).

An "S"4 with V6"S" with the "S"Line Package and "S"Tronic blah blah blah. audi marketing just decided enough was enough.

This was as told to me by a top 50 salesman in the US. Both he and I agree the badging is stupid.
