No, this is not my first. I built a VW 1.9L stroked GT3071R 1.8T a few years ago. Although the car was hit on the freeway and totaled before the tuning was perfect. I've also done a few Bimmer N/A motors and lots of Model A's (although that is completely different).

I was a hired photographer for American LeMans. I took that photo. It has been featured on a lot of lemans websites and event adds. I have only made 3 prints of it.

That is really cool!

Next time I'm in SLC I'll let you know. It might, perhaps, be later this winter if my friends and I can decide where we're going for a snowboard trip (Jackson Hole is on the list again).

Can I ask why a 28 frame with a fully built motor? 30 series (preferrably a 30/40 aka 3082R) would be ideal imo, or at least a 3071/76 400awhp or bust...

*edit* i didnt realize you were sticking with a small port head.. nevermind.

The crank is fine. They are used in very high HP builds. The pistons fail, yes. But I've never heard of anyone having a problem with the block.

Oh, I know. We typically fly into SLC and drive up to Jackson.

I was in SLC this past January. Rode Park City and Snowbird. Only had 3 days.

i never said the crank wasn't strong, the way i was hearing it the block couldn't hold the crank in....

He is at a higher elevation in Utah. Turbos spool up MUCH slower up here. Even more so when you head up to the mountains. This is the reason I stuck with a 28 series turbo on my 2008cc motor. I also have a small port head and have no problems making great power at 5K-10K ft. Got to think about intake velocity at 10K ft. No air up there. Until I see a bunch more B6 guys do 30 series setups up here, I'll stick with the smaller turbo housing so I don't have an annoying amount of lag. Only Ted (Denvernoob) so far from what I've seen has been able to do very well with spool up on a bigger framed turbo up at high elevation....but his car is a one-off E85 special with one-off tuning

I'll try to dig up some info, I was talking to a friend of mine about the 3.0 block for his S4 but he informed me that he had seen/heard of people swap to the 3.0 block from the 2.7T and blow the crank out the block. probably situations where they tried to run the aluminum block as hard as they do the iron diesel block the 2.7T uses.

I also heard that the 3.0 block couldn't handle that much boost, but have yet to talk to Anyone who has actually done it .....I would love to see if the block. Could handle over 9 lbs ....

I would like more info too. You can have a nice turbo setup along with a built bottom end but how about the tranny? CVT=boom?
